Hey guys, I've decided that I want to try to make a mod of my own. The only thing is, could you guys tell me which programs I need and where I can get them? Help would be greatly appreciated.
I recommend searching for beginner tutorials, however, welcome! first off, you will most likely want to use Eclipse IDE, as it is the tool most people use for Minecraft Java Development. Secondly, you need to decide if you're using an API, like Modloader or Minecraft forge. Then, you need to look up some tutorials on how to code. Good luck!
1. Good luck, friend! Modding is hard work!
2. Before you start, get a good handle on Java. You'll be glad you did! (this will be easier if you already know another language such as C++)
3. Once you have that experience, download Eclipse. You'll see why.
4. Get the Minecraft Coder Pack (MCP). This will allow you to actually read the source code. (aab.class becomes achievement.class or something along those lines.) MCP contains a folder called "eclipse". Link to this folder in Eclipse, and you will have access to all the source code! (Told ya Eclipse was handy!)
5. I highly recommend MC Forge (FML). Most mods nowadays use Forge, especially after Forge acquired its own Mod Loader (Forge+ ModLoader, hence FML). Since most people like to run more than one mod at a time, this will increase compatibility between your mod and everyone else's.
6. Get the documentation for both MCP and FML. You'll be glad you did!
After this, there should be a video tutorial on how to set up MCP with forge. If you're on mac, I can tell you from my experience it is pretty easy. On Windows, I wouldn't know, but I can't imagine it's any harder. Next, make sure to read the docs, and maybe find a video tutorial or two to get you started. After that, have at it!
Once again, best of luck! Modding is a lot of work, but totally worth it!
Cheers!
