I am new to Minecraft modding. I have purchased some server hosting and I want to do some basic modification.
All I really want to do at this point is change the skins of some monsters and their names.
Could anyone tell me a good mod to go with and which version of Minecraft I should use on the server.
I have tried installing forge on the server with I think a vanilla build which was successful. My plan once forge was installed was to try Mythicmobs but I couldn't get it to work or find a simple explanation on where to install it.
Can mods be used on vanilla or do you need to have Spigot/Bukkit?
I have so many questions and would love to get more into modding but I am struggling with the basic of things.
Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

MythicMobs is a plugin - not a mod
If you want to load plugins, you will need Craftbukkit or Spigot:
https://getbukkit.org/
For Plugins check this site:
https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/categories/spigot.4/?order=download_count
If you want to keep on mods then forge it the right one
For mods check this site:
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods?filter-game-version=&filter-sort=5
Thanks for the reply!
That makes things a lot more clear.
Thanks again.
