What is Starlight RPG?
Starlight RPG is a modpack that aims to add a lot of dungeons, mobs, dimensions, and overall content to Minecraft without taking away thee overall feel of Minecraft. Of course, Starlight RPG is still a very different experience from vanilla Minecraft. Battle Towers, Dimensional rifts, dangerous primitive mobs, and mysterious structures from Astral Sorcery / Recurrent Complex / Ruins populate the world. Villages are larger, more beautiful, and have waypoints to help you casually travel between them MMO style. Horses, Snowmen, and Wolves are aided by various mods to make them more valuable.
Unlike many other modpacks, Starlight RPG should not be a discouraging experience for players. Although Tinker's Construct and Astral Sorcery may be difficult and learned content, neither are necessary nor feel imposed upon the player. They can still find legendary weapons scattered across rare structures, learn sword skills by dungeoning, and take on powerful bosses with skill and reflex. In essence, the entire pack can be enjoyed and completed without having to learn much of anything. Most content is explained in-game! I think this is important because many popular tech and magic modpacks fail to deliver content that a player can just pick up and enjoy. Most is gated behind a bland and hardly explained learning curve. Instead of that, this pack tries to make a memorable experience that the player can just delve right into and feel immersed.
What makes Starlight RPG unique?
Other than having something for everyone and combining obscure and popular mods, Starlight RPG has a system known as "Soul Over" in which players will slowly and gradually acquire souls of mobs through bonding souls with them in combat or by synthesizing artificial mob souls. They can then transform into those mobs and gain special powers! - but don't worry, this is all very easy! Pressing (~) by default will show the player the very straight forward tasks needed to acquire these soul overs. Some are simply going to be completed naturally as you progress through content, others require a lot of guided mining. Every soul over is balanced and none are intended to replace the player's base form which you will be switching in and out of with brackets. For instance, we have this clanky boi:
Another example of a soul over is a guardian soul over which makes the player a fish that can only breathe in water and is not attacked by its fellow ocean creatures. The Valkyrie Queen from the Aether is also one and can glide naturally- this stacks with the golden feather from the same mod. Credit to a combination of metamorph AND better questing mods. Both were necessary to make things the way they are. See the wiki and technic pack page linked to at the top for more screenshots.
What dimensions are in Starlight RPG?
The First that stands out is the original Aether via the Aether legacy mod. Then we have the beautiful Twilight Forest, a heavily enhanced version of Vanilla's Nether, An end with a new mob and new ores, and last but not least the Betweenlands. This pack took a different route and made the Betweenlands only accessible when all other dimensions are fully cleared by the player making it the hardest and final challenge of the modpack. We can also count dimensional rifts and a player's personal pocket dimensions, I suppose.
Is it multiplayer compatible?
Yes, and I’m constantly reworking and balancing things to make multiplayer more and more enjoyable.
To play multiplayer, Option 1 is setting up a hamachi server. It's pretty easy. Once everyone is connected with hamachi, multiplayer ->direct connect -> port number:LAN number settable with mods.
Option 2 is installing a forge build via server for the forge number I have specified in the comments section of the tecnic page. Make sure you know how to set up a server in general before attempting this. Also, you just need to go to %appdata -> .technic etc and just put the mods and configs in the server. Every time the pack updates just repeat the latter process.
Option 3 is basic LAN play which works just fine.
I have a question that the wiki cannot answer?
Ask here of course! Or dm me. I want to get a discord server going for this but haven't gotten around to it quite yet. Also need some volunteer mods.
What version is this for?
1.12.2, and it will always be that way. But content from 1.13 is already more or less covered by other mods in the pack- coral, shipwrecks, means of swimming in 1x1 areas, etc.
Why is it on technic? / What is technic? / Can I download this pack any other way? / Will there be FTB or manual installation?
Currently, this mod is only supported by technic. Fear not, Technic is very easy to install and manage. There will not be a FTB version only because the process of getting a pack on FTB, I have heard, is long and painful. I do not have the time or drive to do the same thing in two different ways. As for manual- well, not currently but rest assured if you ask me for a copy of just the mods/configs I will send you the files needed to manually install. I will say the major pro of installing Starlight with Technic is it automatically retrieves updates so I can deliver you new content and bug fixes very easily.
There is a crash
Report it to me please. Crash report, context, and all. I want to make sure this pack does not crash.
It will not finish launching!
Just look up how to add more memory to technic. Plenty of tutorials out there.
-Updated Astral Sorcery
-Updated Minecraft Boom
-Made vulcanite spawn more frequently and up to y=64 in Nether
-Added Sword Skills to Battle Towers
Edit:
Updated to 1.0.3
-Added Material Changer mod to adjust swords
-Updated Astral Sorcery again
-Removed slime paradise from all but overworld
-Buffed Obsidian Armor
-Buffed Vulcanite Armor
-Buffed Galaxite Armor
-Vulcanite spawns up to y=50 in Nether and a little more frequent
-Galaxite now spawns on initial island and more frequently
-Nerfed Great Sword of the End 12 -> 10 attack
-Buffed Shockwave Sword 7 -> 10 attack
-Buffed speeds of most aether swords
Updated to 1.0.4
-Fixed an unexpected annoying message on startup from material changer mod
-(Apparently the attack speed feature the mod claims to have is not there yet)
-Therefore I had to redo the long process of updating again
A couple of emergency updates... sorry for the update spam in tehcnic.
Basically, it comes down to 3 things.
Roguelike Dungeons (the ones with super long OP loot filled dungeons with progressively harder floors and absurd swarms of mobs) was removed as it crashed the game too often at lower levels AND was totally breaking progression with enchant changer.
The game actually wasn't detecting killed bosses (figured this out after beating the wither twice in a play through). For old worlds, you'll have to toggle the edit mode off with /bq_admin edit. So uhhh.... sorry about that.
Third is a minor detail change for rendering hands on some metamorphs. I was hoping this would work on the carminite golem and valkyrie queen, but they kinda conflict with aether gloves so at least for now a few like that are off.
One, lag in general is reduced. Two, soul overs have been re balanced. Three, new quests were added. Four, mods were tweaked to eliminate overpowered things. Lots of interesting new features have been added as well. And it's way more obvious a message if you can't get it to launch which should fix things rather neatly.
I tested it in LAN and can confirm multiplayer works very well.
-Added hidden quest which consumes charm of keeping as they did the exact opposite of what they should
-Must reload /bq_admin reload for this to work
-Updated Tinket's consrtuct
-Added Aether Legacy Extension for Tinker's Construct
-Added Tinker's JEI
-Added overpowered armor bar to see more accurate armor values for obsidian and valonite
-buffed valonite to be obsidian stuff tier
-Added TiC Tooltips
-The time is now static in twilight which only means more consistancy with astral sorcery
-Life shards now max out at +2 hearts. Effects on old worlds not too heavily tested, but if you have more hearts you keep them.
-Life shards removed from battle towers
-Added global gamerules mod to lock CommandBlockOutput by default
-Buffed Moa speed and jump height significantly (untested)
-Buffed armor toughness of galaxite and valonite
-Nerfed Eetle HP to OG value
1.2.4
-replaced treecapitator with tree chopper. Now you can cut down any tree in any dimension with any axe by sneaking!
-Hands now render for wight and enderman
-Updated Tinker's Aether
-Made world comamnd quests silent. /bq_admin default load
-Slight nerf to Valkyrie Soul Over speed
And now we have 1.3!
-Added a custom main menu
-Added many new quests
-Added a new official ingame guide
-type "bqm_admin default load" one last time (hopefully), now the quest menu has that command built in.
-Updated the Betweenlands
-Updated Tinker's Aether
-Updated Enchant Changer
-Added Storage Drawers Mod, an addon, and Chameleon Library
-Removed global gamerule mod due to daylight cycle glitch
--Rather, a quest will automatically run getting rid of command output on startup
--Make sure to update your quest database
--Make sure to enable daylight cycle in overworld
-Added Nether EX and LibEX
-Added "BurnBabyBurn" for 1.13 feature
-Added Extra Moas
-Nerfed Bloodmoon spawn rate to reduce lag
-Updated Metamorph
-Updated Waystones
-Fixed default controls
-Updated Friendship Bracelets
-Updated Aether Legacy
-Updated Tinker's Aether
-Updated Colytra
-Updated Extra Alchemy
Strange. That’s new. I’ll check it out and see what I can do within a week. Sorry, things getting busy irl.
edit: dropbox was full, maybe that was it. Try now.
edit2: tested it out by deleting and reinstalling my instance, can confirm it works now.
I know there hasn’t been an update on this one for a while, and that’s honestly because I view this modpack as a finished product. However, there are a good number of mods that recieved some updates which I have been continuously monitoring. So there will be some more mod updates in the near future, whether I get to that in a week or a month. I am actively working on the sonic one atm.
