Not so much alive as not dead yet. I hear rumblings of a community update for the pack coming, but don't know if that will go anywhere. Life is still keeping me busy.
Not sure whether to post this here or Reika's thread -- or if it's even a bug at all -- but I seem to be getting a missing texture on the sides of the Crystalline Energy Stabilizers from Chromaticraft:
I assume, based on the images on Reika's site, that they're not meant to look like that, though I'll admit I'm not 100% sure. I've tried reinstalling a couple of times but no dice. Any idea what the issue could be?
(Really like the pack so far, by the way, though I've barely scratched the surface.)
99% sure the broken texture is only for the "seasonal" version. In a couple days, it should be back to normal. (...which is great, because as a Grinch, I get grumpy about all the holiday texture swaps <_<)
Has anyone tried getting a shader pack to work with R|3? Ive tried installing the shader mod manually and through ATlauncher but it just crashes the instance upon launch.
What is there to use to move large amounts of RF power around besides RF Transfer cables? They don't seem to play nice with EnderIO and other mods in the pack. Chromaticraft Radiators work w/Transfer cables, but that just ties everything to a room and doesn't let you use anything other than the insanely expensive RF Battery from EIC for storage.
Edit: Disregard. Thankfully, after destruction of many diamonds and glowstone and such, an RF battery was created. EnderIO Conduits can attach to it, so piping big-**** power into the RF battery and then funneling it off to EnderIO Capacitor banks is easy enough. With that and RF Radiators, we're golden.
Just a note to let everyone know that version 3.5.0 of the pack has been released! It adds a bunch of new mods: Blood Magic, Minecraft Comes Alive, Witchery, plus some TC add ons. Enjoy!
This particular mod in conjunction with whatever else is going on in the modpack has made The Nether an insurmountable war zone from which there is no hope of survival at my current progression level. I crafted a full set of "Commando" armor from the pack, have automatic weaponry, and still just get eaten alive by Tech Demons and machine-gun/rocket launcher toting zombie soldiers. I've even been "portal camped" and killed by rapid fire shotgun blasts upon zoning into the nether on one attempted trip.
This makes getting glowstone troublesome to downright prohibitive. I don't even have a prayer of getting Ghast tears without branching deep into Forestry bees. Am I missing something, or should I be waiting until I'm far more advanced in enchanted/progressed armor before trying to delve into hell itself?
Edit: Having delved further into Chromiaticraft (again), I've found the recipes to make potions without the need for Ghast tears. I also crafted the next tier of TechGuns armor and a new weapon; required diamonds and some other tech things. This has made the nether somewhat palatable, but it's still a massive undertaking to venture into that place. Death looms around every corner, and getting mobbed out in the open is very much a life or death situation. I guess that's fun? Still haven't found a Nether fortress though. Not sure I'm looking forward to that...
Edit #2: Leaving these up for future searches in hopes it helps folks.
Magma Cream - Look for Tar in swamp biomes added by the Fossil mod. You can bucket the tar out of the pools for 4 balls per bucket, and the black slimes drop them. Be warned, those Black slimes are fairly mean. Blaze powder can be easily obtained from Desert Burrows of the Chromaticraft variety. There is a Blaze spawner at the bottom, and should you conquer that, you're in business.
Ghast Tear - Courtesy of Haggle. They can be gotten from getting to the very bottom of the Overworld Dungeons that spawn randomly. Be warned, they are not for the faint of heart with the Techguns zombies added.
Glowstone - Botanica to the rescue! For the cost of some mana and setup, you can xmute redstone to glowstone. That's not the only thing you can xmute either!
I read this and I got pretty scared of the nether and was avoiding it until I could not do it anymore. Expecting the worse and also the initial lag, I left everything at a chest and there I went, with only a pick, a iron sword, crappy armor and a couple cobblestone blocks to try and setup a safe perimeter.
nether finally loaded and I was alive. Nothing around me. Estabilished my safety perimeter and still nothing. A pretty normal and safe nether.I went exploring a little, collect some glowstone and quartz that were near the portal. All good. Decided to go back and pick proper gear since it wasnt that bad and.... then it happened...
I dont know where they come from. All the guns firing. The scary screams.... Blood.... MY BLOOD!!! It was a nighmare. Escaped with half an heart, dont know how since that "thing" had me cornered and I was being knocked back...
I survived and quickly left the nether.
I write this while I am recovering my senses, on the overworld side, while the server timely decided to restart as I get safe. I can still ear the heart beatings. I am still in shock!!

First off, you don't need to go to the nether...everything you need is available on the lower levels of the overworld dungeons, including ghast tears (which can be found in the loot chests at the bottom of the dungeon). Second, I highly recommend on your first trip to the nether that you build a secure bunker with defenses. Another option is to create a new portal far enough away so it doesn't link. This will give you the opportunity to build again safely for a bit.
That's a new one. We've had butterflymania in the pack for a long time...
I would try generating a new world (or just reloading that one), see if it works okay. You could also try reinstalling the pack. On occasion, the config files don't fully unzip (long-running AT Launcher issue). You should not be getting world gen errors often.

Sorry if it sounded like a complain.
Far from it. I loved the experience!!
It as been a long time since I got so scared in the nether. It wasnt the usual totally unbalanced unforgivable nether that you die once you move one block away from the safe zone.
No, its a very dangerous area, where you can survive but you need to be fully alert. And if **** hits the fan, be sure to have a plan B and even a C.

Haha, glad to see someone else experienced that nail-baiting terror!
Looking back on it all now, it's pretty well-balanced, since the drops from the TechGuns mobs are pretty end game, and farming them is actually quite profitable. The Tech Demons drop useful things for crafting, and all of them drop steel plates.
Now that I'm rocking the Fallout 4 Brotherhood of Steel lookalike armor from that mod, and an energy weapon/advanced ammo burst gun, the Nether is no big deal. Combined with the other things you can get from this modpack, and it's back to ignoring everything and doing whatever. It definitely makes the Nether a much more advanced place to go to. That first trip though...
Also, for Chromaticraft, the roof of the Nether is a very dangerous place. If you happen to come across what looks like an abandoned military camp, do NOT break the flag at the center. Not until you're prepared...

Hey, the updates are back! This might be a good time to chime in with some stuff I've been working on. On and off, I've been working a list of tweaks I wanted to suggest for the pack, but it seemed kind of pointless to submit 'em if the pack wasn't being maintained. I'm just gonna plunk the document here, as I'm not sure what the best avenue would be for suggesting all this crap. Keep in mind that I've already tested most of the config changes, written most of the scripts, etc. in the document.
IDK who exactly is overseeing the pack now - the recent changes post seemed to imply it's Gwydion? - but I figured it'd help to put this in a public place where people could comment. I can stick this on the Github tracker instead if people would prefer, but it seems a bit large for a single issue.

Now I understand why my ice never melts even in the summer.....
Also, if disabling culling tweaks disables culling, you are probably removing 50% of the performance given by FastCraft.
About the food, yes, I understand your point since I have a freezer full of burgers and similar types of food. I would just totally remove the food from the loot tables but I would also disable food rotting. Isnt that big of a mechanic in the pack, since you will be forced to farm either way and its a poorly way of implementing food rotting. You pick food from somewhere, wait a second, pick more... Dont stack anymore! Plain stupid. Its a very simplistic rotting system, without any polishing and causes more annoyances than actually benefits the game immersion. If only there was some standalone well designed system like the TFC one!
I like the current healing system. Forces you to brew potions of healing, which arent that hard to get. The hardest is actually getting nether wart and soul sand.

You should look into Chromaticraft.
Edit: While I'm here:
I've adjusted the config of Aromabackup to have it back up my saves every half hour. Problem is, it doesn't seem to be taking effect, as it still just backs up every 2 hours. It also doesn't appear to use the config setting for deleting backup files, which is set 3 (the modpack did this). Anywhere else I should be looking?

Honestly, no idea how much the culling tweaks do, but it would be simple enough to test for performance differences with and without that config option. I'll have to do that a bit later.
I have to agree with you on the food system. You can sort of get around it by using carrots/wheat/potatoes as the base for everything you eat (baked potatoes, stock, etc. go a long way), but that kinda defeats the point of having stuff like Pam's in game. And once you get a freezer, the rotting system no longer becomes "dangerous", but is no less annoying...
And yeah, potions of healing aren't hard to whip up after a trip or two to the Nether. There's plenty of early-game stuff before you even get that far, though, and I'm still not so keen on a system that can easily put you in the situation of "spend a minute button mashing or die". (Speaking of death, if you return to your base/spawn point at low health, by far the most efficient way to get your HP back is, well, suicide. That ain't right!)

Thank you ignitediris this did the trick for me, I didnt get anything worth from the loot chest after completing it but o well lol.

Well why the crud is Aromabackup in the modpack then?
It isnt!
More like why have you aroma backups in your instance? The pack has no aroma mods in it.
