Shiitake: It's simpler than the Ag Skies greatwood recipe, and isn't gated behind a silverwood wand. I'm all ears if you think I overdid it, though. I was just using those dawn totems when I was clearing out taint to test mobs and man, they are way handier than I gave them credit for.
Namorax: It's a little more complicated than that.
Anything I include in the modpack "overwrites" anything that's already there whenever anybody updates the modpack. That's why I name the world something different in each release. If I didn't do that, then it would overwrite your saved game with a clean copy of the world every time you update.
On the other hand, if I don't include the file, then people who download the modpack for the first time won't get it. That's why I can't omit the world for little fixes; people who start playing at that version wouldn't have a world.
So, in other words, if I include the keyconfig, it will clobber your keyconfigs every time you upgrade versions. Then again, I'm hoping to slow down version updates to once every two weeks or so, so perhaps that's not a huge problem. You know what? I'm doing it. Decision made.
Hirano_U: Nice! You rock. If the game gets choppy, try only allocating it 4-5 GB ram and see if it gets better. <something something garbage collection> If you really care, ask me. I trying to learn not to wall-of-text.
Talonos: Well, the thing with the AS recipe for greatwood was, you only had to do it once. You could farm them afterwards.
I have two issues with the new recipe. 1) Ordo shards. At 6 shards per totem I can currently make five totems. I would want to set up an arcane bore to continue production of totems, I suspect. I'll probably collect more ordo shards as I mine for the remaining ore types I'm missing but I really don't expect to get a whole lot of them.
2) The high essentia cost. 32 auram equates to... two nodes? That, or somehow get your hands on mana beans and hybrid them to auram. I am unsure how fast they can be farmed now, maybe that would work with all the required aspects even. You'd still need to find a pech somehow (unless there are more mana beans in the world? I found one type so far). Another option is finding a wisp spawner and grinding those while idling next to it. I haven't found a wisp spawner, so I can't say if that's feasible. Eldritch guardians will drop wispy essence but I don't consider that to be a fast enough source of it for this. The Sano and Tutamen require an investment in livestock farms, maybe that's not so bad... Having to bust a lot of nodes to make a significant amount of totems is troublesome though. The Ordo and Victus amounts would require a lot of centrifuging.
This change basically means you can't mass produce totems. This means the average player won't be using them to clear taint in mass quantity- they'd be more useful as border control after an area is cleared out, or just as a quick way to make a waypoint safer. If that's how you want it to be, then it's fine. I have over a stack of shimmerleaves just sitting around that I haven't bothered to turn into blooms because of the busywork involved, and I was satisfied with the 20 I got by turning in the 10 I had collected. I could just run around dumping blooms everywhere after making a load more of them, instead of turning them into totems and slapping those down to expand my cleaning operation. I'm considering using a lot of silverleaf potions too- those are certainly easy to make.
In Ag Skies, you only have to do it once. Very, Very true. That in and of itself is reason enough to lower the essentia cost, I think.
Ordo shards: I've got like a stack of these sitting around in my world right now. If your mileage differs, that's good to know. Perhaps 3 shards would be more reasonable than six.
Essence: Wisp spawner is feasible. There is one within a minimap's distance of one of the early scout locations. Set up an MFR grinder next to it powered by an energy cell, or pokeball a wisp and bring it back to your main base to use in an auto-spawner. It's a late game strategy, but so are totems. You can always just set up a dark room around the spawner and hit them with a sword, too. I think the auram cost stays.
I made my first dawn totem today. It seemed reasonable, but on the "grindy" edge of reasonable. I think I can reduce each essentia cost by about 16 and have it still feel as epic. I'll do that next patch. Not this coming patch but also in the future, I'll put in another wisp spawner somewhere in the world. Having two in the world will make it easier to run into one, which makes the auram thing not as punishing.
Shimmerleaf potions: Buffed as of 2.0.2. They now also destroy tainted blocks within a radius of three around the impact point in addition to curing the biome in a radius of five. Beware underground tunnels; unlike the purity focus, the potions destroy tainted blocks in a sphere AOE, not a column stretching from bedrock to sky.
Purity focus with enlarged AoE enchantment on it: Nobody has mentioned this yet. Is the vis cost too high? I'm worried the vis cost might be too high. :/
Are there any other taint fighting tools you want to see? Basically every playtester so far wanted a flamethrower. I think it's pretty clear the purity focus should spew out white-colored flame particle effects, once I figure out how to make it do that. Anything else?

Jez it's been ages since I last posted. Anyway! I downloaded this pack form Technic super excited to play, but I don't have any saved worlds for it.. I can only make a new world and that doesn't do much but just make a world.. Not so fun. Can I request help?
Just to make sure it works on my end, I deleted the modpack from my machine and re-installed it. I end up with a single world, called "World 2.0.2", in my saves folder that opens correctly when I play.
Try deleting the modpack and reinstalling. If that doesn't do it, I've put up the world files for the 2.0.2 world here. I'd only use that as a last resort, though, because if your world file is for some reason not being copied to your technic directory, who knows what else is or is not? If, for example, the HQM config data doesn't go through, or the minetweaker config doesn't go through, you'll end up with it being borderline unplayable anyway.
Good luck! If it doesn't work out, let me know. Oh, and if anybody else isn't getting their world files, also let me know. Just because I can't reproduce it doesn't mean it's not happening. :/
Okay, guys, it seems as though the recent update caused problems for a lot of people. This confuses me, because most people on this forum thread and everybody I know IRL have had absolutely no problems.
The two most common complaints seem to be "Excessive memory usage" and "Crashes opening the single-player world." If you have these problems, or any other problems related to the update, please do the following:
-Navigate to your modpack folder (you can do this by clicking on "Modpack options" and then "Open" while selecting blightfall)
-Put everything in that folder into a zip file.
-Upload it to Mediafire or some other hosting site.
-Describe your problem in this thread and then post a link to your zip file.
-I'll look at it and try to figure out what's going wrong for you.
It seems, strangely, that many people are complaining about many different issues, and some people aren't complaining at all. Hopefully, I can get some idea of what's going on by looking at individual, problematic cases.

Reinstalling it did the trick, it also installed several other things it must have missed as the file is now bigger. Thank you very much, I should have used my head a bit more and tried reinstalling it first. ><
I've been playing the modpack for probably close to 30 hours now. I think it has a lot of potential and is really fun. I haven't delved that deep into thaumcraft in other modpacks or this one so far, so the lack of guidance is a little off putting. I have found I needed to stop and look stuff up a lot which takes away from the experience a bit.
Few general comments and complaints (not in a mean way):
- Manganese, where the heck is it? I made a hammer and have about hollowed out the Taiga biome and haven't found a single one.
- Bucket o' Blood, how do we get this without standing in the smeltery for 5 hours? Each time it hits you it gives like 5 ml, same as zombie flesh. Would take probably 3 hours of hunting zombies in the nether to get enough rotten flesh.
- Also, is nether meant to be turned on? I made a portal and after going around harvesting tons and tons of ores realized I probably shouldn't be there. Oddly enough normal mobs also spawn in there.
- Greatwood, it would be nice to have a thaumcraft specific quest to turn in rep for saplings since there is a good chance of not being able to save one.
- Silverwood Sapling should really drop a little bit more, it would be nice to get at least 1 per tree if not 2. I've taken to growing it, taking all its leaves, and slowly expanding outwards from my base with leafless white trees sticking out everywhere.
Aside from bits above, great job with the modpack/adventure map combo it is a lot of fun. I'd love to see the questlines expanded a bit more to kind of teach the advanced stuff from a mod. Maybe a v2 of the map with a bunch of hidden rooms of treasure / relics of the past.
Thanks for the tips, I'm using the first version I think. I've just passively been expanding my safe area with silverwood trees and on several occasions I nearly ran out of saplings. If you get real unlucky it is possible to completely run out of them.
Each rotten flesh is 5mb. You need 1000mb for a bucket, so you need 200 rotten flesh. That's only a few stacks, which is like, 5-20 furious zombies depending on if you have a looting sword. They drop a LOT of flesh and are going to be your main source of zombie drops anyway.
But yeah you can just dump livestock in too. I'm not sure how much blood each animal grants. As a side benefit, you can use blood balls as if they were slime. Just pour blood into an empty casting table.
xcocopopx: Crashlog, please? I'd love to help, but my ability to do so is limited when all I have to go on is "It doesn't work".
Aaranos: Thanks for all the feedback! Going through it:
Manganese: Um... I had no idea it wasn't under the taigia. I'll fix that next time I do major world revisions. Regenerating all the ores and shipping a new world file takes about three hours to do, so I hate to do that every update. Perhaps I can change the questbook instead, at least until next time I push out a world anyway.
Blood: I got mine by building a smeltery directly under a zombie spawner. The blood is also useful for making coagulated blood drops for extra health boosts when doing Blood magic stuff (and as another food source!)
Nether: The nether is meant to be turned off. I cannot find a way to do it in single player, and it seems others have been having the same problem. If anybody knows how to disable the nether in single player, I'm all ears.
More guidance: Thaumcraft has their thaumonomicon. I was trying hard to avoid rehashing the same stuff, but if you guys want more thaumcraft guidance, I can totally expand the paranormalist quest line to let you have it. Can anybody second Aaranos' opinion?
Greatwood: As of version 2.0.2, there is a blood magic infusion recipe for greatwood for those not daring enough to brave the taint.
Silverwood: As of version 2.0.2, there is a Thaumcraft Infusion recipe for silverwood in case people want it. Also, I think (but am not sure) that if you chop the leaves with a fortune or lapis axe, you have a higher chance of getting sapling drops. Also, consider ethereal blooms and totems of dawn as ways to expand your base. (I'm also working on another taint fighting tool for you guys for next version... )
The only problem with shipping new worlds, besides all the work you have to do, is that I'd have to redo a bunch of stuff (unless there is a way to keep progress quest wise and just start in a fresh world. I found Manganese thanks to the other guy recommending the Glacier's mines.
I got blood via his method as well, made a safari net and rounded up a bunch of chickens and other animals to throw into the smeltery.
I'll go destroy my nether portal xD.
And thanks for the additional tips, will have to try to study up on the mods.
And here's a crash log from when I last booted it up:

Everything I've read says that fortune axes don't help for getting silverwood saplings. There are a few mods that have items that do help, but none of those are in this pack.
Edit: Alright I tried out the purity focus, and it does seem a bit expensive. Does it use the same amount of vis regardless of how many blocks it's cleaning? Like I mean, if it's got Enlarge 1 on it, and you point it at a single block of tainted land, does it still cost 9x vis? Having to spend like 75 vis to clear out only a 7x7 area isn't very good. Maybe if it ONLY destroyed fibrous taint (no biome change), and cost like 10% of what it does now, it'd be useful for mining and maybe general travel purposes. Right now it just seems like one wand's worth of purity is like, two silverleaf potions, and that ain't great.
pepsi: Perfect! Thanks. Lots of people are reporting issues on the memory front, so I'm grateful to have a sample of it not working! I'll let you know what I find.
Shiitake: That's actually a great idea. The potions are better at clearing out the biome than they are at getting rid of blocks. Perhaps the purity focus could be the opposite, better at clearing out blocks than restoring the biome. Right now, my testers are reporting that the purity focus is best for insta-melting those giant piles of crusted taint made by former greatwood, jungle, or silverwood trees.
At any rate, expect purity focus tweaks next update.
It has lucrum. I think it used to be a hungry node, then it became tainted. That'd be why it has such an eclectic bunch of aspects. But yeah, that's pretty great. Do energized nodes lose their tainty status?

I haven't made any foci other than the Uprising focus, because I haven't found any quartz aside from the quartz blocks I ran across in... a place.
Edit: Oh THAT's where it is. That'll teach me to put off scouting quests.
Great modpack btw!
But yeah you can just dump livestock in too. I'm not sure how much blood each animal grants. As a side benefit, you can use blood balls as if they were slime. Just pour blood into an empty casting table.
(I'm also working on another taint fighting tool for you guys for next version... )
I got blood via his method as well, made a safari net and rounded up a bunch of chickens and other animals to throw into the smeltery.
I'll go destroy my nether portal xD.
And thanks for the additional tips, will have to try to study up on the mods.
Here's a link to the pack, in it's state from last boot up:

And here's a crash log from when I last booted it up:

This is both disappointing and amazing.
