Hopefully I'll find a village with a Brewery, Apothecary, and Tinkers' Hut. Btw, when is the series going to start again? I'm nearly out of interesting Yogscast vids to watch!
I appreciate your viewership, sir, and I apologize for not keeping a more regular schedule. I try to upload a video a day to my channel, though they may not always be Eldritch Studies.
Maybe I could be convinced to upload more frequently if I had a larger viewership
In response to the video I just watched (I think it was Arise, Chicken?) I would like to see you guys do a bit with Thaumcraft and Witchery, but I'd also like to see you guys utilizing some of this magical stuff in combat. Also, a couple small aesthetic mods you guys might be interested in: Statues, by the same modder who made Chisel. Torch Levers, which adds lots of cool and easily concealable redstone stuff.
In our most recently recorded stuff (going up soon), we finally get started in Thaumcraft, and Svartulf shows us a bit of Witchery. We will only be doing more from there.
There aren't a HUGE amount of options for combat magic, but I cast a lot of attack spells and Svartulf is our healer. We will certainly try to get some magical weapons and stuff going soon.
Also, thanks for the mod suggestions. I like them myself, and will talk with Svartulf about adding them.
Plugged this pack in because it uses a lot of mods I like, but are there custom config settings or something? A lot of tool recipes, including wooden and stone, aren't working and I need to make Tinkers Construct flint tools to progress much. It also seems to be nigh impossible to get iron and anything above it. Since I happened to spawn in my new world on a small and mostly barren island in the ocean, progress is slower than it needs to be.
Iguana Tweaks is a mod that mods Tinkers Construct. By default, it disables all stone and wooden tool recipes. This employs a progression system that we believe is pretty key to the feel of the pack. The progression for tools goes flint/bone->copper->iron, I believe. No pickaxe is immediately capable of mining above its own tier immediately, though; it needs to be leveled up through mining or by adding a mob head to it. Check out our playthrough (main page) for more information.
If you don't like this mechanic, that is perfectly fine. I believe you can alter the configs yourself once you've installed the pack, or just remove Iguana Tweaks entirely.
1. Punch trees, scrape together some gravel with your bare hands. Craft the gravel into flint (2x2 square).
2. Follow the instructions in the Tinkers Construct book you spawn with. Make some tools with flint heads.
3. Mine up some copper and aluminum with your flint pickaxe. Fight off mobs with your flint hatchet.
4. Make a smeltery, smelt some aluminum brass (copper+aluminum), make some part casts (put stone tool parts in the casting table, pour aluminum brass over them).
5. Upgrade your pickaxe with a copper head. You won't be able to mine iron until you boost it at level 3 or attach the appropriate mob head. Forging a Cleaver will help you get mob heads more easily.
6. Mine iron with your boosted copper pickaxe. Upgrade your pickaxe with an iron head and level/boost it.
7. Mine tin with your boosted iron pickaxe. Smelt some bronze (copper+tin). Upgrade your pickaxe with a bronze head.
With a boosted bronze pickaxe head, you should be able to mine everything you need for the other mods. You may want to smelt up some alumite just in case.
However...
Once you get a smeltery set up (this is a necessity to progress into the other mods) and you have some copper weapons and tools, there are several shortcuts. If adventuring appeals to you more than spelunking, and if you're particularly brave (foolhardy) and resourceful (a shameless scavenger), you may find other ways to get your hands on some stronger materials. I won't spoil those here, because figuring it out is half the fun.
We strongly considered Blood Magic at the time of the initial release. You're right, the feel of the mod is perfect for this pack. We decided, however, that the items were a bit too overpowered and way too easy to get. It was a hard decision, trust me.

Well, I've always felt the balance of BM came in several forms. Prepare for a long winded debate!
Risk/Reward: With all things in BM, you must remember what your spending to use that item, ritual, spell, or sigil. LP, life essance, blood. Get too careless, and it will spell your end. If your soul network ever runs dry, you will know just how costly everything is. And BM will not hesitate to kill you if your careless.
The monopoly: With most other mods, if you have a huge stock pile of resources you can waltz through there tech trees in under an hour(Buildcraft, TE3, IC2, Witchery) quickly reaching end game with little effort on the players part at that point. You need to put a lot of work into blood magic, as it requires a LOT of manual work to get a resource that it has the monopoly on:Life essence. Doesn't matter if you have a house build out of diamond or a dirt hut, you still need to put in a lot of work into BM to get anywhere.
Automation, or lack there of: In the past few updates Way has made automation a lot harder early game to automate anything having todo with the blood altar, and late game it is a big balancing act. You can't reasonably pump liquids into or out of the blood altar anymore, it is far to slow to work with(20mb a second. A little over eight minutes to fully fill or drain the blood altar.) You need to reach mid-late game BM to be able to automate anything, as that is when runes of dislocation become available. And to use these runes, you must sacrifice efficiency of the altar(Every upgrade slot with dislocation is one without a sacrificial rune). Plus, Way has added a few ways to automate the gathering of LP, but they are all a bit less efficient at the job and cost a lot to set up(We're talking IC2 nuke level of investment.).
But I am curious as to what you feel was a bit over powered, whether it was the armor that has been nerfed a bit( No longer does it grant full immunity to physical damage, and it can't block magic damage) or something else.

Honestly, it was mostly the armor, tools, and weapons. Not only are (or at least were) extremely powerful, they didn't seem that hard to get. In addition, the ability in this mod pack to capture and replace spawners would give any mid-high level altar an infinite source of LP.

Well, you need to put in a few hours worth of altar work to get to the tools, and you need the tools to make the armor( which costs as much as diamond, and can't be enchanted). As for spawners, that's like a forestry clockwork engine: free power from manual labor. Also, the tools are powerful, but the beast mode effect is very costly( 50 hearts worth of LP.) and they all have a passive cost over time while active and on any use. Think of them like electric tools powered by blood.

I don't know much about crash logs, but the first couple lines look like the game tried to give you an item that was bugged and you crashed? Try tracking down this: chylex.hee.mechanics.orb.OrbAcquirableItems.initialize(OrbAcquirableItems.java:73) in the configs and removing it. Or don't. That may be really bad advice. I couldn't tell you for sure, so attempt at your own risk.
In other news, Harken Scythe is updated! AtomicStryker, who temporarily helped the author of HS (Jade Knightblazer) make the mod, and so had access to the source code, has kindly updated it to 1.6.4. Proof: Harken Scythe MCF Thread
I'd be super interested in helping the development of this modpack. I'm actually running a small magic themed one myself. Shoot me a message.
EDIT: On second thought, it seems pretty lagy for me. If you guys need any help though, let me know
Do you have a PC or Mac? I've found that while PCs can run vanilla Minecraft with pretty much zero lag, and can handle shaders and resource packs better than Macs, Macs are much better for large amounts of mods.
After playing this modpack for a while, I am fully convinced that this is best played with friends instead of in single player. I've gotten torn apart more times than I can count. Are there any servers running this that I can get in to?
Also, I I found another mod that I think would fit in very well with this modpack. It's called Blood Magic and it has open permission for use in modpacks. I've been playing around with it and it's got some pretty interesting mechanics. I heard that the dev is planning on improving it to the point where it will have a spell creation system to rival AM2's.
Edit: I mean in the main thread not the download file
Hopefully I'll find a village with a Brewery, Apothecary, and Tinkers' Hut. Btw, when is the series going to start again? I'm nearly out of interesting Yogscast vids to watch!

So i'm forced to do without. Can someone assist me?
You may call me The Madman, as there is no name that suits me better.
I happen to make modded survival maps, if your interested see my latest: The Asylum

EDIT: Apparently there are a couple bugs in the updated version. Just don't try to dye Soulweave Armor if you guys add this.
