Please dont update to 1.10 until 1.8.9 is fully finished with all the features and with as less bugs as possible. I am already updating from 1.7.10 to 1.8.9 and there are only a few of my mods that have updated to 1.8.9 from 1.7.10 with even less updated to 1.10.
I'm curious...would the lumberjack have any issues with the trees in Realistic Terrain Generation mod? It makes the trees quite...tall, and I'm not sure if the lumberjack has a limit to how tall the trees are. You can see in the pic below the size of the trees.

We will push a new update for 1.8.9 in the next days also containing a lot of bugfixes and the new farmer.
Many mods didn't even update to 1.8.9 and are currently directly upgrading to 1.10.
We are planning on still offering support to 1.8.9 even after we changed to 1.10.
This way we will offer bugfixes for 1.10 and 1.8.9.
But, new features only will enter 1.10 since we need some libraries only available in 1.10+.

What are the main differences to the former MineColony mod?
The former MineColony mod was written for singlePlayer only and a very early Minecraft version.
We tried to port his mod to 1.6.4 but the code had a lot of problems and who played our 1.6.4 version knows about the bugs.
Changing the mod to offer multiplayer wasn't very viable and that's why we rewrote the mod completely.
The differences therefore are:
- Support for 1.8.9 and soon 1.10
- Support for smp (Multiple players can manage the same colony without a problem)
- Less workers than the former mod (We're still in development, but new workers are added every some time)
- Improved workers:
Who knows the previous workers, knows that they were pretty limited and had their problems.
Our lumberjack replants every kind of tree. Our miner creates vanilla mineshafts while mining.
We use the schematica mod to scan in and place buildings (you can customize all colony buildings).
We have a fully working fisherman.
Our farmer handles all kinds of seeds and has different fields for different crops.
The colony has a lot more options for customization and workflow optimization (Citizen have a set of skills and may level up).

Got our code free of obvious errors and started bug hunting and testing now.

Almost finished the 1.10 port, mod is already playable and only has some minor bugs, we will upload it to curse in the next days.
Uploaded a semi stable build on curse with 1.10.
Known Bugs:
- Rendering issues with build tool(walk into chunk to render it)
- Pathfinding issues with miner (Just remove the block on the other side of the ladder to fix it)

It always depends on the type of the tree.
If the tree is only high -> no problem. If there are logs that are not correctly connected -> Won't cut down these.
We currently have some problems with some savanna trees since they have logs which are not connected.
But jungle trees work perfectly.
As long as the tree is completely connected from the ground up to the roof he will work great.
We soon will release an update which should improve the recognition of not completely connected trees.
