I play in 2 places; one is a plugin-heavy multiplayer server, the other my friend's vanilla Realm. On both I use this mod as well as the Minimap mod. On both the realm & the server, the update to 1.6 completely reset my world map, erasing all exploration I've done. But they were also each messed up in different ways.
On the server I don't use waypoints much because we're not to use player-side mods to teleport. But there is a server-plugin command that players use to teleport which I use constantly, and every time I do I get a big message across my screen telling me to press RIGHT SHIFT because "World Map needs confirmation" (whatever that means). It's not a game breaker or anything but it's annoying as hell to have to do every single time I teleport.
On the Realm it is much worse. I've lost access to ALL of my waypoints. None of are showing on my world map anymore (not even the ones in the area around me, which is the only area showing as explored on my map now). When I open the waypoint menu, under "Sub-World/Dimension" there's a drop-down menu where there are now 2 Overworld's listed, and all my waypoints are in the 2nd Overworld rather than the first/auto one. When I select the world with my waypoints, they show up in the world itself, but still not on the world map. And when I click on them in the list, the teleport option is disabled. So I can no longer see OR access any part of the world I've explored & labeled before. I'd have to start over from scratch, re-exploring the world and rebuilding a new network of teleport waypoints.
This has left me no choice but to go back to using WorldMap 1.5.7 and MiniMap 20.11.0 (good thing I've kept copies of every mod file I've downloaded for just this reason!). I don't think I will bother trying any newer versions of these mods at all until it's for Minecraft 1.16, and even then only if the above problems have been fixed.

When you're asked for confirmation, you're supposed to open the map, select the correct map from the dropdown menu and click confirm. That's it. This is the manual map selection mode. Don't press right shift if you don't know what it does. It's for quickly confirming the last confirmed map for the dimension. You can also change how the map is confirmed, including the old automatic system which is called "World Spawn" in the "Map Selection" option. The tooltip for that option tells you everything you need to know really. The option is on the world map selection screen. The bottom left icon on the world map opens it.
EDIT: The minimap detects what map you have confirmed to determine "auto" waypoints, so using the world map correctly should fix that too.

The old system was definitely too unreliable in 2020 to be the default. Although it's still there as an option for those who want it

* Fixed mipmap generation-related stuttering. It is possibly the "lag" that some people have been reporting for a while. There is a bug (?) where mipmap generation freezes rendering for much longer than the time it actually takes to generate mipmap. I previously used a workaround for the issue, while I wasn't even sure what the source of it was. It wasn't easy to track it down because the freezes happened at random OpenGL commands unrelated to mipmaps. The workaround seemed to only work on some devices and I think even caused other issues. In this update I simply removed mipmap generation for now.
* Fixed texture upload benchmark-related stuttering when exploring the world. The mod measures and approximates how quickly your computer can upload textures to the GPU, which may cause stuttering until it's finished. Map exploration-related texture updates are no longer measured, so the stutter should be gone.
* Fixed maps with a single region not refreshing after you change a refresh requiring setting and then select the map in the map selection menu.
* Reworked how Patreon capes are implemented. It's now done with a core mod and they should behave exactly like vanilla capes, which includes changing the elytra texture.
* Fixed empty regions freezing for some time after they are "refreshed".

I tried to add Xaero's World Map to modpack to make it even better. But i can't log back to my word after downloading the 1.12.2 World Map mod while i can see that its loaded and active in the mods. I tried few versions of the worldmap mod for 1.12.2 but still no dice. The world opens for a split second but then closes saying " Shutting down internal server " . I tried deleting the options text file from the modpack that also didnt work. I would appriciate it if someone here knows a solution to this problem or somehow help me. Thanks for your help in advance.

Sorry to bug again lol. Is there a way to decrease the zoom multiplier in the worldmap mod ? Lowest seem to be 0.5x but its not really enough for me to cover up the places i discovered gotta drag the mouse alot. I checked the config folder but couldnt see a similar option. I would love to have like 0.001 or even less zoom to cover a larger area when i open up the map. Thanks for the feedback in advance , have a good one

It's not possible atm. I have it planned but it'll be a long time before it's implemented (if it's even "doable"). Use the waypoint jump feature described in the original post to quickly scroll the map to destinations.

Is there documentation for the file format of the world map cache? I'm working on a mapping project on a server, and right now I can only accept voxelmap and mapwriter data because those are the only formats I've been able to decode.

There isn't any documentation anywhere but I think I can just tell you the format. Do you need color cache (basically images) or the multiplayer map files containing actual block states?
EDIT: You might have difficulties decoding the color cache because it can contain compressed data if the user has the "Texture Compression" setting enabled. The compression format is picked by the graphics driver (GL_TEXTURE_COMPRESSION_HINT set to GL_NICEST and internal format when uploading being GL_COMPRESSED_RGB). The cache files do contain the actual format used but I don't expect you to handle every format that is thrown at you.

It's not possible atm. I have it planned but it'll be a long time before it's implemented (if it's even "doable"). Use the waypoint jump feature described in the original post to quickly scroll the map to destinations.

Is there documentation for the file format of the world map cache? I'm working on a mapping project on a server, and right now I can only accept voxelmap and mapwriter data because those are the only formats I've been able to decode.
There isn't any documentation anywhere but I think I can just tell you the format. Do you need color cache (basically images) or the multiplayer map files containing actual block states?
EDIT: You might have difficulties decoding the color cache because it can contain compressed data if the user has the "Texture Compression" setting enabled. The compression format is picked by the graphics driver (GL_TEXTURE_COMPRESSION_HINT set to GL_NICEST and internal format when uploading being GL_COMPRESSED_RGB). The cache files do contain the actual format used but I don't expect you to handle every format that is thrown at you.

* (1.16.1) Fixed regions failing to load or even crashing the game (in singleplayer) when the number of unique blocks in a single chunk section is very high.

* Moved S2C packet callbacks to the main thread. Can fix compatibility with some mods/future MC versions.
