i would say just stick to 1.8 if you are going to do it and add in any new features plus bug fixes and tweaks. It doesn't really make sense to spend a lot of time making too many versions when you can make one or two versions really great.
That really depends. I prefer to create mods for people's enjoyment, which would include making a it in some earlier versions so everyone can play it. I would expect with 1.8 being out for so long, most mods would have updated. But I guess some refuse to embrace the change within the code. I will be releasing an update in the next week with some huger mechanics changed, FOV toggles, tooltip changes, and a downgrade to 1.8.0. If I have to time before the next version's release, I will port it over to 1.7.10 for all you oldies out there.
No problem man, thank you for letting me know people still want mods for 1.7.10.

Hey, liked a lot your mod. it`s a good way to have weight without having all Iguana Tweakks features, and it`s 1.8! I think you should stabilish a weight limit that will make you stop moving instead of only slowing down (sorry if you already have done this, I`ve not gone too deep in the mod). Really ecxited for the 1.8.0 version...

I was thinking about just having the player stop, but I believe that would make it a bit too difficult. I might add a toggle for that in the next update though.

Currently working on the next update which will include some extra toggles, hunger mechanics, and some general fixes. I am also working on downgrading the mod to 1.8.0, and possibly 1.7.10. I do apologize if it takes a bit long for the next version to be released, as I am working on a few other projects. Keep enjoying the mod!

Alright Happykiller, I've been doing some development idea building of my own Re: Your mod.
I have a few suggestions: Backpacks should have/be able to:
Modify Weight of Objects Carried - Reduction Multiplier
Modify Inventory Size - Default inventory size should be configurable. Some backpacks will increase the size of your inventory.
Modify Max Stack Size - Some backpacks can only carry small stacks of items rather than full 64 stacks.
Modify Max Weight - This could go up or down from standard.
Restricted Container - You can only put certain items in this backpack.
Tool Slots - Some backpacks have slots alongside for tools, potentially you automatically grab the right one to mine the block in front of you by holding down some key and clicking target block with an empty hand or one holding a tool, and it puts it back when you're done using.
Placeable backpacks -
If you remove a backpack, all expanded inventory slots are considered 'stored' in the backpack.
Backpacks with inventory in them cannot be put in an inventory slot.
Backpacks can be placed in the world like chests, and their inventory accessed by right clicking.
Backpacks can be picked up with Ctrl+Right-Click provided that:
The backpack slot is empty. OR
The backpack is empty.
If the backpack slot is full and backpack has inventory, it will not be picked up.
I have to say this last one really excites me!

Very good ideas, however I do not plan to add inventory slots to the backpacks at the moment. A LOT of mods do this, and while it is a good idea, I want my backpacks to affect my player's separately. Thank you for the suggestions!

I might point out that there isn't a single mod that does this. There are mods that have backpacks that have inventories, but not a single one that affects the *players* inventory in this way. Which would set your mod apart from the approach taken by every other backpack mod, and truly stay in theme with the mod you're building here.

Well, considering my mod adds weight and not expanded inventory (at the moment), it wouldn't work too well. I would love to directly modify the player inventory, but in doing that my mod would become incompatible with every other mod.

I don't think that's true at all. I'm using infiniteinvo at the moment and it's perfectly compatible with every other mod i have. The compatibility seems unaffected. You're both producing great mods, and a combination of those mods would be purely epic.

I would love to do that, but my mod would be incompatible with infiniteinvo mod. Why? What he does is, when the inventory button is pressed, open a brand new inventory instead of the vanilla one. With this, if I did the same, the game would get confused and crash. I will be adding some custom tabs to the vanilla inventory, so you can select my inventory without affecting mods like infiniteinvo.
Any chance of a back port to 1.7.10? I am trying to create a server with weight limit with classes. What I mean is that because you have it set for potions to affect the carrying weight that would be great for like if someone chooses to play a Mage then I could decrease their carrying capacity but your mod is the only way that has this capability.
Unless those aren't getting used.

Including that: "You're overweight.. Quit it" toggle I should hope!
I can't say anything just yet.

I didn't know that was how that worked! The combo would be great!

Will you update this mod to 1.9?
