Fool's Gold(and other dumb stuff)
version 1.4.0.0: ATTACK OF THE SLIMES!!!
This mod, to nobody's surprise, adds fools gold. It also adds some other dumb stuff.
Features & screenshots.
In earlier centuries, when the gold rush was going on, many gold hunters were tricked by pyrite, a material looking much like gold and found in similer places, but almost worthless in total. This material became famous under the name "fool's gold" and-
Nobody cares! Let's get into what the mod actually does!
When I was mining, I ran across some gold ore.
It looked a little different from that other gold that was nearby, I only barely noticed.
After smelting it into ingots in my furnace, it looked much more distinctly strange.
What's even stranger, is that I can't seem to build armor or tools out of it...
However, it does seem to be craftable into blocks. I can't even tell these apart from normal gold blocks! That's a very nice building oppertunity, seeing as my other mods add in a very large number of other uses for normal gold!
Later, in an ill-fated study of why golden apples were supplimental to my health, instead of damaging to it, I attempted to craft an apple with some of this fake gold.
And then I ate it.
Let's just say that I'm going to stick with normal gold for my apples from now on....
That's annoying as heck, but luckily I have an anvil for renaming items as well as a fairly stupid friend...
-Version 1.1-
I've had the chance to experiment a bit more, and have made an exciting discovery! Putting a Fake Gold Ingot into my crafting table now seems to give me nine "Pyrite Nuggets" (on the left in image below.)
What's Pyrite, you ask? Dunno. Sounds like "Pirate" and has something to do with Fool's Gold. Better actually look it up if you care, you should know better than to trust me.
Now, what about that melon? After studying the Glistering Melons I could make with normal gold, I got to thinking, what happens when I do it with these Pyrite Nuggets?
Yuck. Get a look at this thing. It's all dark and ominous. This is not a good sign. No, really, you can't use it as a sign. I tried. Those still seem to be a wood planks and sticks thing.
After a bit more investigation, I found that I can't make potions from this thing, but I seem to be able to eat it! Weird!
Wow. Okay. Eating this appears to be... Not good for my health... No potion effects, and it even adds some hunger, but it did three hearts of damage to me! I almost died, and it feels like the modder just basically reused the idea of the Fool's golden apple instead of making something new! Not cool!
There also seems to be some development stuff that I can get in creative mode:
There are also some Pyrite bricks afoot, with the actual work in progress abreviation in their name. They're a decorative block with a temporary, kinda ugly texture that will probably be changed later.
-Version 1.2-
I mentioned a fairly stupid friend a little while up. Well, they decided recently to go look for the farlands. I'm pretty sure they were patched out though. Whatever the case, this friend got bored quickly, but still explored some new places, and when I went to visit them, I made an exciting discovery! My friend was complaining about Iron not stacking with itself, in addition to gold! Clearly they were experiencing something new! When they were afk, I mined around beneath their house for a while, and found what I was looking for!
Smelting this stuff gave me yet another weird fake ingot, which I quickly discovered was called "Irony!" It seems to make normal-looking blocks as well. What's infinitely more facinating, however, is what I found out next, which also seems to work with fool's gold!
Then, I tried to combine the two dusts in my crafting table. Sure, I can smelt 'em back into ingots, but this was much more interesting.
That smiling dust is adorable! I can smelt it into ingots as well, but these feel a little more creepy to me...
And of course, some blocks of this "Happy Iron."
That's all well and good, but what about this smiling dust? Surely there's more I can do with it? Well, yes. It, some gold dust, and some fish, give me a weird crunchy snack. That miiight just not be a permenent texture...
Yum. I can also combine the smiling dust with a pumpkin, to make the pumpgrin, and then that with a torch for the Happ O' Lanturn. Creepy smiling pumpkins.
Now, Crafting an Iron-golemy shape with my fool's gold blocks and a pumpkin gives me an unsettling Totem. I'm a little worried about what will happen when I use an item like this...
Now, There's a freezer that turns Fool's Gold into Fool's Cold, or 'Cold Gold.' Thing is, I need Cold Gold to make the freezer. I can probably get the stuff another way. Anyway, this stuff seems to be about as good as diamond in the tools department! Woot! There are also some pretty neat decorative blocks
Now, making a sword with these gave me something with as much damage as a diamond sword! It also works as a shovel, and has more durability! The only problem I see is that I need to enchant it with books or it just gets shovel enchantments.
Now, the pickaxe is pretty normal. Pick shaped. Frosty. Hit things real good. Around as fast as diamond, slightly higher durability, enchantability, and damage.
There's also some apples. The blue one is weird, the grey and yellow one is weird for other reasons. Blue is unsafe to eat, Gray-Yellow takes skill to eat correctly. Want elaboration? Hah, nah. Use it ingame...
What an update!
- Version 1.3.0.0 -
Joke update for april fool's day
- Version 1.4.0.0 -
Added possibly even more than v1.2!
The doccumentation will roll out pretty slowly.
Whenever I right-click on a block with a GUI, the GUI sticks to my hand! It's a GOOEY GUI!
Those darn slimes :\
These things can be used to do the G.U.I's effect in a crafting table!
They work with both the gold freezer and the pancake flipper!

I also reccommend Villager's Nose, meme in a bottle, and Jon's useless mod to you, as all three of those are also more about entertainment than gameplay, and all very much worth downloading.

MCreator, being the terrific program that it is, has broken entirely now when I attempt to run it, so we're stuck with this version of the mod for a bit longer.

Not waiting for someone to fix my error, I've instead decided to recreate the mod from scratch for the next version. It's not too big of a mod anyway...
I'd reccomend allowing players to use it as a king of "lower-tier" gold with a little higher mining speed than stone and a REALLY low durability.
Unless, of course, this mod is literally just for the irony.
Either way, a cool idea! Could be used for a vanilla-esque modpack.
I'm kind of planning on adding more uses for it, but I want it to be mostly useless, since gold isn't worth much in minecraft anyways, and it's pretty hard to make a worse version of it. Since I've gotten this far, I am at this point planning another update, that will include nuggets and a use for them. I may do something like this afterward.
Even like that, it could still be just for Irony...
Thanks, and I'm glad you're actually considering it for a modpack. It's ahead of my other mod already!
lol why is this a thing XD either way, would be funny to give that fake gold apple to a friend XDD
That's a pretty good question, and I don't have a coherent answer to it. So here's a very much not coherent one instead: Gorrila, lawnmower... Totalitarian pineapple?
And I agree, although I only thought of that after making the apple. Plus, now all of my friends are trying to figure out which one of them I was talking about, and that's possibly more entertaining.

Concept is fun, tho you should add a few more uses for these. Like, golden rails that instead of boosting the minecarts slow them down, or even revert their direction.

Not sure how I'd go about doing this, but a new update is coming once I finally get MCreator to behave, that will include Fool's Gold Nuggets and a pretty neat use for them.
If I helped you in any way or agree in my ideas or posts, make sure you click that green arrow pointing up below my post or simply huggle me! I use 1.7.10 (Modded), so when I comment that I like a 1.8 mod, I will comment to downgrade to 1.7.10. I support no pics, no clicks. Suggestions that I think that are the best deserves a banner!
It is almost time to say goodbye to 1.7.10 because of the recent surge of big 1.9 mods.
Why MCreator sucks: jcm2606's file (doesn't open a new tab) He allows/welcomes anyone to link the file, so I put it here in my signature for people to know how MCreator functions. I thank jcm2606 (he's awesome) for creating the document/file and I'm just here to spread the word.
Because I don't really know much of anything about Fool's gold or the gold rush, I was too lazy to look it up, and quoting wikipedia directly would have been lame. I suppose I could just make up a historical explaination section though. Made-up history is fun sometimes!
BTW I'm the guy with first comment I just forgot my password on my first account
I'm not sure I understand why you want that. To make a good dimension for a minecraft mod takes a lot of time and effort, and although I have two awesome and fairly original ones planned, I'll need to learn a lot about coding first, and they will be a mod of their own, not part of this monstrocity. What would a fool's gold dimention even be like? An awkward nether-clone made out of fool's gold blocks? I'm sorry to say it, but I don't think I can go with this idea.

500+ huggles? U wot, m8?
Because I don't really know much of anything about Fool's gold or the gold rush, I was too lazy to look it up, and quoting wikipedia directly would have been lame. I suppose I could just make up a historical explaination section though. Made-up history is fun sometimes!
My Mods:
Fool's gold & other dumb things
Placebo Effect
Two others that I am pretending don't exist.
Also, Modding Theory.
