WAILA is a useful mod, but it has a bug that causes it to crash if you look at a double plant that is missing the bottom part. I ended up getting the code and fixing the bug myself with code from the In Game Info XML mod. It works quite well, even though I had no clue what I was doing. I was quite surprised that I actually got it working the first time.
Also, there isn't an e in my first name (The one I use here nor my real first name). People spelling my name wrong irritates me no end for some reason. I don't know why.
I'm sorry about the server-crashing bug in Base Metals. Now fixed in version 1.7.1
@BrinsingrAerowing: Sorry. I was sleep deprived. Please don't send your dragon riders after me!

Still sleep deprived I see. Now you have an extra n.
I know how you feel, as I haven't gotten much sleep as I have been trying to sleep on our couch while watching our puppy, who has to go out every half hour as he overheats.

Most solar cells are already made of silicon (that's why I made the recipe in the mod use ingots of silicon), and 100,000 times more efficient would be a violation of thermodynamics. They already convert 20% of light energy into electricity, so even an improvement of 5x would violate the laws of physics. Silicon oxide powder is basically sand. Pure silicon powder wouldn't be very useful and an electrical engineer would melt it into an ingot and then slice the ingot into wafers to make microchips.
As a biochemist that will soon have a PhD in plant photosynthesis, I'm obligated to point out a few things about that link.
First off, the claim that silicon is more common than carbon is misleading. There is a lot of silicon and it is one of the most abundant elements on the Earth's surface, that's true, but in addition to the massive amount of carbon-based like on earth, most minerals that make up the earth have other forms of carbon in them as well, so carbon has never been a limiting resource and we have too much in our atmosphere already. Second, it takes a huge amount of energy to turn SiO2 (silicate, naturally occuring) into SiH4 (silane, man-made), so don't let anyone convince you that silanes can be a fuel source (at best, it could be a novel form of fuel storage). Third, Si3N4 is NOT a noble gas. Noble gasses are defined as elements with a particular electron orbital configuration. No molecule can be considered a noble gas. Also, having a solid waste product will clog up any combustion engine very quickly and having to store silane away from nitrogen would make transporting it extremely expensive.
As for using silanes to store energy produced by solar panels, that would rely on having a good catalyst that will split water into oxygen and hydrogen and put the hydrogen onto silicate, removing the oxygen from the silicate at the same time. I know of no such catalyst in chemistry or biology and keeping nitrogen out of any industrial process is very hard. So maybe we'll have silane batteries some day that will greatly out-perform lithium ion batteries (and that would be a big deal!), but right now silanes are all hype with no practical application.

I am unable to find the exact article that i was reading
but they are able to get special sand and purify it into a silicon gem kind of stuff and ether burn it for fuel or send light into it which in turn magnifies it.
magnifying the light on one side and trapping it on the other. (with this stuff though the light doesn't escape once it goes in giving much larger returns of energy.)
same way solar panels work now. except these give ridiculous amounts of energy.
i would like to say that they purify the sand and this component with gas to extract it.
They somehow figured in a way to do this very cheap and very efficient.
not a whole bunch of details I can find on it now really though, which saddens me because it is the stuff replacing oil. which brings a warm smile to my face... because oil is so obsolete. it really is. There are more earthquakes in oklahoma now than california. Most oil in the usa though. how bout that..... (should put it all back where they found it if you ask me)
edit:
"Cattail pollen outperformed bee pollen with a high capacity of 590 milliamp hours per gram.
The theoretical capacity of graphite is 372 milliamp hours per gram, and
we achieved 200 milliamp hours after 1 hour of charging"

... send light into it which in turn magnifies it.

I remember hearing about a new method to trap laser light, but this isn't an amplifier, it's a memory device. It's application wouldn't be in power generation, but rather quantum computing (or other light-based computers). And even if it were an amplifier, amplifiers don't make a signal stronger without taking power from somewhere else, so you could have a power beam and a signal beam and the crystal could amplify the signal beam using energy from the power beam, but without that power beam the crystal couldn't amplify the signal.
yes with the quantum knot and the new 2d semiconductor material.
it is coming.
the real question is if you stretch an atom with the higgs boson particle and then form it to a 3d hologram model. will it be able to hold shape without having to maintain itself without some kind of electrical charge or something to prevent decomposition?
if it can you could stretch one atom over a very large area, a thin layer. microscopic. im sure glass would be invisible... like an invisible forcefield! O.o ...
with quantum flux and power advantage you can make an unlimited supply of rf with the electric to rf converter, a cable, an rf bank, and one of the exciters.
once set up you can destroy the electric to rf converter to stop the flow of unlimited amounts of rf.
I came up with a sneaky way of making the fluid pipes connect directly to fluid handlers from other mods. I wish I had thought of this method a year ago.

does this work with Ex Nihilo 2 now?
im glad to see this is still up and a now a dominating force on 1.8
On the topic of fluid pipes(thought the sciency talk was fun) is there a way designate a fluid tank for a certain fluid?
At the moment, you can make a tank only hold a certain type of liquid if you prevent it from draining all the way or filling all the way, but that's not really convenient for people who like to store large quantities of fluids.
I've been thinking about fluid-specific tanks. It's actually a very hard user-interface problem. How does a person tell the tank what fluids to accept without knowing anything about the programming details of the fluids? And can I achieve that in such as way that it will work for all fluids from all mods? For example, if you were to specify the fluid type by right-clicking with a bucket, then you could never fill the tank using buckets.

Can you add a GUI that has a filter slot? You can place a bucket of the fluid in the slot and the tank will only accept/hold that specific fluid? Or does that do the same thing as clicking with a bucket?
Or would it be easier to add a pipe with a filter option, placed next to the tank that only allows the specified fluid to enter the tank?

nah jk man. hahaha
That must have been a rather strange bug.
Si powered combustion engine
Si can also be used in things like solar panels to make a solar panel roughly 100,000 times more powerful than traditional solar panels.
Si is harvested from sand
this is what is replacing the oil industry and what oil industries are buying into.
do you plan on doing anything like a si powder?
example of some details about this stuff:

Well, I am building another hydroelectric power plant, this time with 510 generators total.
I don't think I will have power issues for a while with this setup.
No images yet, as it is incomplete.
Placing 6 rows of 85 generators by hand is tiring.
with quantum flux and power advantage you can make an unlimited supply of rf with the electric to rf converter, a cable, an rf bank, and one of the exciters.
once set up you can destroy the electric to rf converter to stop the flow of unlimited amounts of rf.
and then place it back to continue the flow.
The latest version of Power Advantage has a Electricity to RF converter (plus a Steam converter too).
