Will there still be a way to get redstone (Even if I have to change the config) , also I love the mod, and can't wait to see it grow
Hello Starcraft1256,
And thank you for the love! We have renamed the original redstone to copper, and thus all the recipes from vanilla that include redstone now have copper instead. We have also fixed the OreDict so redstone and copper should work the same when used with other mods, but sadly we have had little time to test this.
Cheers!

Hello everyone! We released a new beta-version, our aim is that this is the last before releasing 1.0 and leaving the WIP-forums. Be sure to check it out and tell us what you think.
What's new:
* Weathering! Limestone now gets eroded when in contact with water, so watch out! The effect is twice as fast in jungle biomes.
* Added limestone dust, a product from weathering of limestone, can be used as a fertilizer.
* The smeltery and alloy furnace got new interfaces! Be sure to pick up all both before upgrading to beta 5 to avoid bugs.
* Amount of slag from the smeltery is doubled, but double the amout of slag is also needed to create another ingot (ratio remains the same, 64 ore blocks gives 1 extra ingot from slag).
* Gravel got a new texture! The places gravel spawn is also tweaked.
+ Several bug-fixes! We greatly appreciate the help from the forum with bug-spotting and new ideas, thank you all!
We want to give you a heads-up that we are going to be present at Gamex Comic-con 2015 this weekend at Friends Arena, Stockholm Sweden. The event will be going on friday, saturday and sunday (30 october - 1 november), you can find the BetterGeo-booth close to the middle of the floor. Come and hang out and chat with us!
We released 1.0 of BetterGeo! We have also moved to the big time, the real mod-section! The changelog can be found here;
2015-11-05 BetterGeo 1.0
* Release of 1.0!
* Fixed a bug where dedicated servers could not be started
* Fixed casing
We look forward to being able to give you more content the coming weeks, some of the ideas you've given us are being looked at and might come in the next patch!
Just a quick question about this great mod. Aren´t there any villages in bettergeo? I have created 3 worlds but i can´t find a single village.
Hello pexxoz!
Hmm, thats unlucky! I will have to look into if villages are less keen to appear. I did however find one near spawn in this seed: "-7143966043146520308", so they should be able to spawn! Glad you like the mod, stay tuned for more updates! :-)
I tried your seed and there was a nice village close to the spawn point, tyvm.
I have also created a couple new worlds and i did get villages in 2/5 so i think you just have to keep trying til you get an environment that you want to work with.
I have now settled with a world with alot of woods and fields, filled with horses, pigs and lambs and some really nice scenery, the village is by the sea and
it´s time to start prospecting
Awesome! Looks like you found yourself a really good world to build in :-) We wish you the best of luck! Feel free to post your creations here so we can get some inspiration :-)
one thing I noticed was crafting the wooden prospecting pan, there was a configuration that was not accepted

is this intentional? it seems a strange restriction.
Hey orepinsky,
Glad you like the mod! Hmm, that's not intentional, we must have missed it in the code! Will fix for next patch and look over the rest of the recipes. Thank you for telling us!

Really great mod. I'm building a modpack that includes this mod, along with mods like Streams and Dynamic Surroundings, and it makes the world feel much more realistic.
I would like to make some suggestions.
First, I would like some config options to control what rocks like pegmatite drop when mined. My main concern is that emeralds drop too frequently from pegmatite, and pegmatite is too easy to find. If I was able to make emeralds more rare from pegmatite, or pegmatite more rare in general, that would help.
I would also like an option to *not* rename all redstone to copper. I like the idea you're aiming for with renaming redstone to copper, however this breaks a LOT of things when used in modpacks, since a lot of other mods out there use copper and redstone together. Thankfully, I was able to use scripts to remove all redstone ore dictionary values that were copper, and rename the redstone back to, well, redstone, so that mods using copper (not redstone) wouldn't clash with actual redstone.
In fact, my modpack adds seven different coppers to the world, none of which of course have anything to do with redstone. So you can imagine how messy things can get when a non-copper item (redstone) is sharing the same ore dictionary values as these other mods' coppers.
I think it would also be great to have more control over world gen, like the rarity of kimberlite pipes, the rarity of finding diamonds in K-pipes, changing vein sizes of BIFs, and even being able to turn off/on individual items that drop from things like Skarn and Pegmatite (for example, if I could disable felspar drops from pegmatite, or disable lapis lazuli drops from marble)
Overall, it's a pretty cool mod, but it's a little bit too intrusive to be compatible with other mods. I personally plan to use it as my primary world gen mod, and have found ways to work around some of the nuances.

Hey man is there away you could upload that script to fix the red stone being renamed . I am having this issue to . Thanx man !

Hey Kompy_87!
Thanks for the compliments and the good input! We've realized that the use of copper as redstone is not ideal for the useage with other mods.. Our explaination for that is simply that BetterGeo was meant as a "standalone" mod in the beginning, no effort was really made to make it compatible with other mods. As we have moved on we've seen more and more requests for modpacks and such, and I can say that we will try to do everything in our power to make it so BetterGeo works with as many mods as possible! You come with some good examples which we need to focus on.
Some things, like rarity of ores and minerals, relates to balance and that is always hard to achieve. Will look into the possibilities to put this in config however!
As a side note we've had discussions to release the source code to the community once this project reaches its end, whether this will happen or not I cannot say. Such a thing would open up for people to mix with the code as they see fit (if we are not able to make it easier via config values), especially for the use in modpacks.
Hope I answered some of your questions, you are of course welcome to come with more input, its very valuable for us!
Cheers,
SGU/Pontus
Hi everyone! We just released a new version of BetterGeo! 1.1 includes lots of new items, mainly because some of the metals in BetterGeo wasn't put to use anywhere - now you get alot of new applications for your fancy new metals!
* Added Metal Boat
* Added Polishing Machine
* Added Display Cases
* Added Fire Proximity Suit
* Bug fixes
But fear not, the next patch with give you more of that sweet geology we all love!
Also, check out or new Wikia! There you can find alot of information about the minerals and rocks along with recipes, environments where you find certain rocks and more! Links to both the Swedish and English versions can be found below.
Thanks for the info Pontus, and looking forward to future updates!
Got a question, though. I noticed that there's quite a bit of feldspar, but it has no uses (yet)
I looked it up, and feldspar seems to be commonly used in glass making.
I'm using a mod called minetweaker that lets me change recipes of items. Would it make sense to include feldspar as a requirement to make glass in minecraft, or would it be more realistic to allow players to crush feldspar and quartz into a silicate mixture, which can be smelted into glass?

That's something to look into! As of now the feldspar is actually primarily used as a component in the smeltery, mostly as its use as ceramics in the real world. It would be cool to add another glass-type with added feldspar which would be harder, or to simply change the recipe as you mention! Also something to look into!

Just a heads-up, weathering may only be present in new games or in newly found chunks, keep in mind when upgrading from an old patch to the new patch!
