If the team happens to be looking at new ideas, may I humbly suggest the following. Really looking forward to whatever BetterGeoEdu is later this year. This mod is the best.
use Bronze and Steel for tools, weapons, armor
Bronze less strong than Iron, Steel stronger than Iron(?)
Lead: ore, ingots
build large Storage Batteries for use with Solar Panels, vehicles?!
can boil it so you can throw it on people like during medieval sieges, lol
Cadmium
12 zing slag = 1 Cadmium ingot
used in Solar Panels
Crude Oil
viscosity between Water and Lava
rarely forms pools like water and lava on the surface, but not lakes like water
if it encounters water, floats on top
if it encounters lava, burns
can be lit on fire
Bucket of Crude Oil used as furnace fuel
texture: dark gray with some brown and blue speckles
Can this result in refining crude into fuels and other substances? Whole mod's worth of stuff to do there
if you swim in it you get sick
Solar Panels
if they’re in the sun, they charge attached batteries
Possible bug: running 6 granite slabs in the Recycler completes but produces nothing (no gravel). Had compost in one of the slots already, all but the two empty.

Thanks. I actually have a Bettergeo meeting tomorrow and I will bring this with me. I will also invstigate for a possible bug release very soon.
-in addition to not growing grass back, the soil blocks also don’t allow for modded saplings and flowers to be placed or generated on. also i’m not sure about this but i think sheep don’t grow back their wool with these soils.
Thanks for reporting those bugs!
Yes grass doesn't grow back. This is an embarassing bug. I seem to have broke it just before release. Strange that nobody have reported that earlier. When it comes to the sheep I thought it sounded strange but after playing Minecraft for 100s of hours myself over the past 8 years or so I never knew that sheeps regrows wool after eating grass. I knew they did eat grass but not it was part of the regrow process. Anywho.... I have fixed both this issues. The second one tricky since it's hardcoded but with help of ASMTransformations I have fixed it (ugly but the only way).
If other mods can't place sapling and flowers is probably because they check if the block is the vanilla grassblock instead of using the proper way of calling canSustainPlant method on the block.
-sometimes using the smeltery will crash the game. i noticed this happening when shift-clicking on it mostly. keep in mind that i play in a multiplayer server with many other mods too, though
If you can get hold of a crashlog that would be great.
-i’m not sure if it was in the wiki or in the SGU site, but i’ve read that you can craft the books (like the BIF info book for example), but you can’t, at least in 1.12. i don’t know if this is intentional or not, because sometimes the books drop from mobs etc.
Recipies missing and will be added.
-you can’t craft blocks such as aquamarine block, feldspar block, etc
Recipies missing and will be added.
-you can’t craft TNT with the bettergeo sand
Seems like the recipie doesn't have support for Oredictionary where we register our sand to be "sand". I have added the recipie manually now which isn't the prefered way of do it since there is now two TNT recipies in the game. At least it will make it possible craft TNT.
(also please make sandstone, granite and gneiss break faster ): )
The blocks hardness are balanced between eachother with input from an geologist based on how hard a stone of this type would be to break in real life with a sledgehammer combined with Mohs scale for minerals.
All of the bugfixes above will be pushed in a new release together with a few new language translations from the EDU-project. Can't say a date yet but within a month or two.
- breaking Granite Brick and Gneiss Brick gives Andesite Brick
- Nether Wart grows on hoed soil
Yes. The brick bug has been fixed and will be included in the upcoming patch release together with a few new language translations from the EDU-project. Can't say a date yet but within a month or two.
Possible bug: Recycler completes recycling Potato but doesn’t create Compost when there is one box of 64 Compost.
Yes. I found an issue with the Recycler that just increased an existing stack over the limit when it was full instead of creating a new one. Bugfix will be included in the upcoming patch release.
Yes. Very embarsing bug. I managed to break it just before release  it has been resolved and will be included in the upcoming patch release within a month or two.
Really loving this mod, I love fossicking and collecting minerals in real life. This mod adds that "mining" realism that minecraft failed to develop. The subtle changes to the landscape is great. The education aspect is fantastic too, are there other similar mods that work well with this one?
Couple of ideas:
- for collectors more displayable specimens rare to find, maybe tradeable to villagers for high emerald values.
- water erosion extended from limestone to soils (maybe rare geode drops, fulgerites from where lightning strikes maybe) and sandstone (drop sand). maybe incorporating improved river generation and waterflow so erosion can create realistic gullies and canyons. maybe extended with storms where heavy rain can create new source waterblocks to start the erosion process.
Couple of bugs:
- sheep dont seem to graze to regain wool. breeding wool-less sheep produces baby sheep without wool too.
- actual dirt blocks are very rare and when placed dont seem to gain grass, i dont have silk touch so cant yet try dirt with grass blocks.
- gemstones like aquamarine don't combine into blocks as indicated in wiki, maybe removed from mod.
Mostly I hope to see further updates and thank you so much for the mod as it stands already
I will forward your suggestings to the PM of the BetterGeo project
Sheep bug has been fixed and will be included in an upcoming release.
Dirt blocks should actually not be found anywhere since we replaced dirt with normal, blocky, clay till/moraine. So the bug is actually that you managed to find them
Gemstone blocks recipies missing and will also be included in the upcoming release.
I wonder if the BetterGeo team is considering holding back since Mojang's cave updates (1.17 and 1.18) will change geology and related stuff in vanilla geology quite a bit. Hope everyone on the team is safe and healthy.
The fixed 1.12 release is just waiting for a few translations and then it will be released!
I'm happy to announce that BetterGeo 3.0 is now in development for https://www.bettergeoedu.com/ unfortunatly at this time it is too big job to upgrade the mod to later releases. I have done parts of the worldgeneration for the 1.16 release but it's a big job to port everything at the moment. But lets see what happens after the final release of the cave update.
Very happy for a fixed 1.12 release to play with as the weather gets crappier. I am curious how the BG team will resolve 1.17’s new copper blocks and other geology-relevant changes. Their copper blocks are silly since they have limited use and redstone was supposed to be copper in a way to begin with. What a design mess! Makes BG more attractive. Also the BG edu site and content looks great. Cheers to you and the team.
Also I noticed Mojang asking for comments on new creatures, one was a Copper Golem. What if you made golems out of the different BG metals? Maybe they can all have different characteristics beside differing by toughness. Lithium Golem floats in water, electrocutes stuff.
After a long wait fixed versions of BetterGeo is here! Changelogs can be found below.
A 3.0 is being developed right now (still targeting 1.12.2) and a shorter project will start soon to look into bringing the mod to 1.17 and possibly with limited functionality to Bedrock as well!

Changelog
2021-10-21 BetterGeo 2.1 for Minecraft 1.12.2
Bugfixes:
Quartz almost never had any gold or silver.
Marble didn't drop Sphagnum and no experience drops from Lapis.
Brickblocks dropped just Andesite Brickblocks when broken.
Sandstone Brickblock translation was missing.
Sheeps didn't eat tillgrass and doesn't grow back wool.
Till wasn't regrowing grass (ooops, that was a late minute change in beta2 that broke this 😞).
Recycle station didn't create a new stack of output when an exisiting one couldn't handle more items.
Mineralblocks was not being rendered correctly.
Show BetterGeo sand TNT recipe in the recipe book.
A few shift-click crashes on the smeltry, batterycharger and flue gas cleaner has been fixed.
Conductivity meter animation is now working.
Minor changes to battery charger code.
Sometimes duplicate messages would be sent to the player instead of just one message when using various items.
Minor
changes to what can grow on TillGrass. Requests has been made to make
BetterGeo to work with Biomes o plenty plants but unfortunatly the
1.12-version of BoP doesn't utilitze the correct method for this so we
can't do anything about it. (BoP for later Minecraft versions does
that).
Snow covered grass blocks now has the snowy side texture again.
New features:
Translations added for German, Spanish, Estonian, Finnish, French,
Italian, Polish and Slovenian. Thanks to our BetterGeoEDU-partners!
Recipes added for Mineralblocks.
Recipes added for BetterGeo Books.
BetterGeo Books recipes shown in the recipe book.
Alloyfurnace and Smeltery will light up, change the front texture and generate burning particles when used.
Stone
tools and weapon will now show up in the recipe book when picking up
one of the BetterGeo stone types that can be used to build these tools
or weapon.
The furnace will now show up in the recipe book when
picking up one of the BetterGeo stone types that can be used to build
the furnace.
2021-10-14 BetterGeo 2.0.2 for Minecraft 1.7.10
Bugfix:
Sheeps didn't eat Tillgrass which causes them to never grow back wool. This has now been fixed.
Translations for the following languages has been added:
I found out that you can get diamonds with a wooden pickaxe on the surface which is pretty strange. Maybe you should lower the Y Level abit further down and make it so you can't mine it with a wooden pickaxe. Change it to maybe iron or something a bit mid game. Otherwise the mod is Great!!
BG 2.1, with MC using about between 5-12 GB of 16 GB total.
hoppers don’t work from the sides of the smeltery? By design, or should they do so?
appears that single pieces of plain quartz (not with gold or silver) breaks into multiple pieces.
eating takes 2x as long, almost as if eating restarts right before finishing. stopped after resetting OptiFine
blocks take 1-2s to break after the breaking sound occurs. this is intermittent. currently notice is starts after beginning to break several blocks in a row, after five or six blocks, and gets worse over time. stopped after resetting OptiFine
design question: should ash break when the blocks underneath it are broken?
no option for Block of Feldspar in recipe book
no option for Feldspar from Block of Feldspar in recipe book or possible from player or crafting table

I think kimberlite pipes do that in real life and they try to match that in the mod. BG is much more fun than vanilla bc of this! Instead of iron and diamond, which can be plentiful (but aren’t always, depending on seed(?) and location(?)) there are other rare items to find like pegmatite and skarn that have precious minerals. Sometimes those generate very little. I am playing a seed right now that has tons of quartz, pegmatite, and surface iron (16247).

Thanks. I will bring this info to the editors of the EDU site
/Nicklas SGU
That’s great, hope it’s a good meeting. Has BetterGeo and/or the Edu project become more important since COVID for remote instruction?
EDIT: Remembered a question, sorry if it's been answered before: why are brass, bronze, and steel in sticks and not ingots?
Believe I may have found two new bugs:
- breaking Granite Brick and Gneiss Brick gives Andesite Brick
- Nether Wart grows on hoed soil
removed
