Really loving this mod, I love fossicking and collecting minerals in real life. This mod adds that "mining" realism that minecraft failed to develop. The subtle changes to the landscape is great. The education aspect is fantastic too, are there other similar mods that work well with this one?
Couple of ideas:
- for collectors more displayable specimens rare to find, maybe tradeable to villagers for high emerald values.
- water erosion extended from limestone to soils (maybe rare geode drops, fulgerites from where lightning strikes maybe) and sandstone (drop sand). maybe incorporating improved river generation and waterflow so erosion can create realistic gullies and canyons. maybe extended with storms where heavy rain can create new source waterblocks to start the erosion process.
Couple of bugs:
- sheep dont seem to graze to regain wool. breeding wool-less sheep produces baby sheep without wool too.
- actual dirt blocks are very rare and when placed dont seem to gain grass, i dont have silk touch so cant yet try dirt with grass blocks.
- gemstones like aquamarine don't combine into blocks as indicated in wiki, maybe removed from mod.
Mostly I hope to see further updates and thank you so much for the mod as it stands already
I don't think it'll work with v1.8, unless you can find a 1.8 build of the mod. It was very difficult to get it running on v1.12 for me it was very tricky to get exact versions to work together. but got it running with optifine and i think sil shader.
I used to play BetterGeo 1 with Minecraft 1.7, and I have enjoyed BetterGeo 2 with Minecraft 1.12.
I would be happy to support updating BetterGeo to work with newer versions of Minecraft at $5/month 47 kr/month through a service like Patreon.
EDIT: I would pay that up front, $60 560 kr to support development of new features and support for new versions. Hopefully others would do so, if the author was willing to work within this model.
Playing 1.12.2 and not able to find gold and silver in quartz! When I break quartz block it drops 4 instead of 1 quartz block! This is a known bug? There some way to fix it?

Hi,
unfortunalty Geological survey of Sweden is a goverment based division so that would not be possible. Luckily it looks like we can do some more Bettergeo development later this year or during next year as part of the BetterGeoEDU project.

Hi,
you are right! Actually gold was generated but so very few of them.
Silver was actually never generated due to a coding bug (two parameters
switched in a method call) wow.. strange that nobody have noticed that before.
I have patched the code and will make a new release soon with both
gold and silver plus raised the rate of quartz generation a bit.
The reason quarz drops more than one block is due to a missing option
in ForgeMod. While checking for how may items to drop to match with
fortune on the tool it's not possible to check if the block is
QuartzGold, QuartzSilver or just regular Quartz. I will check if I can
find a workaround for that (which doesn't involve generating a plain
Quartz block since that will mess with existing worlds.. I think..)

I understand. I meant, if the source code were ever published and one of the its original authors, or someone else entirely, wanted to develop it privately. But any kind of update is welcome and the SGU team does an excellent job. I still only play with BetterBeo on 1.12.
What are the plans for BetterGeoEDU project? Something more/newer than already published? Include a new version that works with/modifies 1.13 aquatic environments, or newer? (Could be interesting integrating Vanilla smelting ovens, but the Nether Update is.. weird.)
Just pinging this one to make sure it's seen--wonder if anyone else sees it or can reproduce it? Thanks.
Yes I can reproduce it. There is no trace of it in the code. It was renamed to zincblende but Pumice doesn't drop it. I have checked with two of my collegaues if there was a reason for this but it's vacation times in Sweden so it will take some time.

Keep up the great work.
Possibly going to nether update. Unfortunatly lot of changes have been done to the mod-API since 1.12 so it's once again a bigger amount of work needed.
I myself like the Nether update. I have played it with my family during the summer (but the bedrock edition in this case) and it really gives a new dimension to the Nether. Now we can't really modify the nether since it's a fantasy world.

Got it. That would be cool, since it will include everything new since then. I’ll try out the Nether more over the Winter.

I’ve read you get proper vacation time in Sweden. 😂 Hope everyone stays safe. Cheers

i’m curious to know what you would do if you were to modify the nether! i sometimes fantasize about it. would be cool to hear the ideas from the actual team haha even though you’re not doing it. it was really good to read that you want to bring the mod to 1.16, though! i really appreciate the effort you guys put into making geology more accessible. bettergeo is among my favorite mods. actually me and my friend would like to help and translate it to portuguese, our native language. what do you think? we have a multiplayer server with bettergeo installed and it is great fun (i’m saying this to make sure you know your effort is appreciated!)
i’m also looking forward to the bug fix update. having the mod updated would be great for the mod’s exposition to the public! i’m willing to do threads about it on reddit or whatever haha. this really is a great mod.
i’d also like to report some other bugs i remember and that i haven’t seen people talking about:
-in addition to not growing grass back, the soil blocks also don’t allow for modded saplings and flowers to be placed or generated on. also i’m not sure about this but i think sheep don’t grow back their wool with these soils.
-sometimes using the smeltery will crash the game. i noticed this happening when shift-clicking on it mostly. keep in mind that i play in a multiplayer server with many other mods too, though
-i’m not sure if it was in the wiki or in the SGU site, but i’ve read that you can craft the books (like the BIF info book for example), but you can’t, at least in 1.12. i don’t know if this is intentional or not, because sometimes the books drop from mobs etc.
-you can’t craft blocks such as aquamarine block, feldspar block, etc
-you can’t craft TNT with the bettergeo sand
(also please make sandstone, granite and gneiss break faster ): )
I have a bug where one of the sandstone types breaks incredibly quickly when not using a tool. But otherwise I think they break slower because they’re denser rocks, and BetterGeo is supposed to have more-realistic geology.

I noticed the same lack of ore in quartz.

Hey I wasn't sure how else I could contact you guys, but I just wanted to let you know about some issues.
On https://www.bettergeoedu.com/eng the button "Read More About BetterGeo on minecraftforum.net" seems to link to the wrong address.
On https://www.bettergeoedu.com/installationguide-eng in the "Install ResetMap-mod" section, you've provided a download link to 9minecraft.net, which reposts mods illegally. You can read more about it here: https://stopmodreposts.org/.
I think the "Hardcore Map Reset mod" might be the original mod? (https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/hardcore-map-reset)
Thanks for making this mod, and I look forward to seeing it get updated!
