Yes it is. You can get permission the same way you get the /tp command. Allow cheats in your world.

Update 1/4/3 (MC 1.8):

+ Minimap beta!
Can be turned on in the minimap settings, second page. Half of the minimap code was rewritten to make it possible to implement anti-aliasing, make entity indicators more customizable in the future and much more, possibilities are endless now. At the moment, this costs slightly more computing power. The code is nowhere near being completed and it won't go live until it runs better than the previous one. And, of course, anti-aliasing will be togglable when it goes live because I know some people love the pixelated look
Feel free to support the development by testing and reporting any bugs and errors.

Can you explain what you mean by "not visible"? Does it disappear for you or something?
