Couldn't you just have the foliath seed check if its being right clicked on a flower pot, and if it does you replace the pot with a custom TE? As long as it drops a flower pot, the illusion should work.
make them detect, when placed, if the block directly below them is a flower pot, if so, it spawns tinny and tries to nibble on ur does, but does no damage
Hey Mowzie there's been a problem with minecraft ever since i started playing a couple years ago and it has to do with the way spiders currently climb surfaces .
They should infact climb horizontally and not vertically, the devs seem too lazy to take notice and i wondered if you being good with animations could implement it.
It would ironically polish the game to make the mod a more cohesive experience.
I don't think he's willing to work on currently-existing vanilla mobs.

I am aware of the existence of mo bends, but that mod only changes the way spiders look not how they climb.
I asked mowzie because i know he is very good with animations and it shouldn't take allot of time to implement a feature like that.
And while he said that he didn't have any intentions of creating variants or mobs based on currently existing ones, i don't see a problem on tweaking something like that.
In any case the verdict goes to him.
It DOES change how the climb though. also changes how skeletons shoot to make them even better snipers.

I have a suggestion for mob’s based upon mob’s you are considering, specifically your idea for a large insect and a large frog, I tried to make them work in tandem, sort of like symbiotic mobs that work together. Introducing the Lucito and the Pugunk.
LUCITO: Behavior: Neutral Height: 1 block Width: 1 block length: 2 blocks
The lucito is a large insect that is primarily green, yellow, and light blue, they have swirled dragonfly-like eyes, a long proboscis, skinny elongated legs, and a black stinger. They can skitter on water like pond skaters, and walk around a little on land, but mostly stick to slowly flying about whilst making an annoying whining sound. They will usually fly away from you if you are boating towards them on water.
They spawn in small groups near the water's edge, and act like wolves in that if you attack one they all become hostile,
Their fighting strategy is to erratically fly towards you and either sting you for 1 and ½ hearts of damage or to stick their proboscis into you
and do a new status effect.
The status is called “Insanity” and it can do a number of things;
. Inversing the controls
. making everything look grey
. Flipping the screen upside down
Ect
Lucitos Drops are: COMMON: UNCOMMON: Lucito Carapace( an item used in brewing Insanity potions, increased potency with Glowstone Dust) RARE:
PUGUNK: Behavior: Hostile Height: 1 ½ blocks Width: 4 blocks length: 2 blocks
The Pugunk is a giant colorful toad that can only move by slowly hopping around. It is mainly red, purple, and dark blue. It has a long, two-headed trunk, a pair of brown horns and a stubby little tail.
They have a few different Attacks the Pugunk has at its disposal. It can shoot a purple goop onto the floor, this poisons you and is also slippery like ice, and will disappear after a while. Belly flopping into purple goop to cause a ripple that damages and poisons you, and lashing out its tongue and pulling you towards its mouth and swallowing you into its clear stomach.
Pugunks Drops are: COMMON: Slimeballs, Raw Pugunk (a meat that heals for 3 and a ½ hunger, and has a chance of poisoning you, when cooked it does not poison you and heals 5 hunger.) UNCOMMON: RARE: Venom Trunk(an item that, when left clicked on the ground, leaves a small puddle of poison. combined in a crafting table with 2 more venom trunks, 2 leather, and a bucket to craft a new weapon, the Toxic Hose. The toxic hose is a weapon that can spray the poisonous purple gunk of the Pugunk everywhere, however, it needs to be recharged, as indicated by the gage that appears on the side of the screen when in use. Recharge it by putting in a crafting bench with another toxic hose or a potion of poison. Alternatively, you can suck up previously shot out poison to recharge it, from both you or the Pugunk.)
But What do these two mobs have to do with one another? Well, when a group of 3 Lucitos meets a Pugunk, they will circle around its head for a full day and night before implanting their stingers into its back. This makes the Pugunk bigger, growing small white eggs on its back, and even causing the Lucitos to lose their wings.
This new hybrid mob is much tougher, not just slowly hopping, but making erratic movements. All of its attacks will be stronger and also deal insanity, and the Lucitos will ofthen stick their proboscises in the side of the Pugunk to heal it!
You will have to kill the lucitos first, a difficult task since the Pugunk always faces you. The last-ditch effort of the pugunk and lucito combo is to have all of the eggs located on the back of the pugunk explode into a swarm of maggots and tadpoles, that will rush towards you in a final attack.
so what do you think? Do you already have plans for the frogs and bugs? Or is this a good idea for two mobs that work better together than apart?

Using a TileEntity would allow you to give the block any special render, effects and behaviour.
However some of us would be satisfied if planting the seed in a flower pot would just create a static potted mini-Foliaath as well. Just as a nice decorative easter egg.

No, Mo Bends does exactly what you've asked me to implement. Spiders rotate to face the walls they are climbing on. There's even an image of it on their Curse page.

These are kinda cool! I like certain elements. I'll keep these in mind, but no promises.
Yeah, sure! The phoben's blade Ej will function like this.
No idea.
Hm, I'm really not sure how that would work. Foliaaths are entities while flowers are blocks.
Exactly, thanks for taking it so well. I'd love to hear other ideas you've come up with.
i would like to just see a baby foliath model inside a potted plant, it wouldn't even have to function at all, it could just be a stagnant little model. idk i think it would be sick.
I hope you don't mind me asking this, Mowzie, but how has been development going as of late?
Hey, development has slowed down since school started but is definitely still going. Two of the three mobs I want to release in the next update are finished. The third one is modeled and has the beginnings of animation. Not sure when it'll be ready, and I'm debating releasing the two finished ones by themselves earlier. They're small though, so I'm afraid people will be disappointed.

Nah, take your time. I understand waiting for a release is a pain, but you are making a mob more complex than the others added in the update; I would love to see the final product along with the finished mobs!
Hey Mowzie, glad to see more mobs are coming. Speaking of mobs, i was trying to improve on my crab monster concept
This Guy Here
Heres a sum up of him again. Crab monster that spends its time berried under the ocean floor, springing out to attack its prey. It attacks by punching and slamming its claws at the player or prey item. Has a special move where it opens its claws and snaps them creating a knock back effect and has a chance to stun its opponents (Crabs immune to stun).
Ive even made a weapon concept for it
Acting like a sort of gun and hammer hybrid. Left clicking does a normal attack which does decent damage. Right clicking will have the claw part of the weapon be pried open as seen in the image. The longer you hold it the more damage is done (Must be close in order for damage to be done). If underwater, it will cause a blast effect which will knock near by enemy away (Longer you hold, further the knock back). If fully charged (Keep holding right mouse button) the weapon will shake. Fully charged clamp will also stun enemies (Only underwater) and also make a unique sound. (Crabs immune to stun)
I have been trying to figure out how to make this mob fit in more to the ocean and have a better connection to it like you said. But i am not sure i understand exactly what you mean, do you think you could explain it a bit more? and do you have any suggestions on how to improve it?, i REALLY like this mob design and would love to see it in game (I wish i had the time to put it in game myself). Thank you in advanced.
Other then that ive also thought of another mob design which now that i look at it, kind of has the same issue of fitting it in to the environment more.
Yeah, i know its hard to see
This gliding jungle hunter (this was thought of before the plans for other jungle mobs were shown, Yeah i know you already have a few jungle mobs) looks like a strange hybridization between a panther, gecko, snake and flying squirrel with a dark purple body (almost black in colour). With the ability to climb up trees (moving through leaf blocks. Kind of like jurassicrafts microrpator), Octopus levels of camouflage, venomous bite (Standard poison) and the ability to glide from tree to tree. This beast is quite a monster. Though it has a weakness, it is photophobic. It avoids light entirely, if caught in light it will try to hide from it. If it cant it will simply try to flee from most threats and sleep (basically its passive during the day). This creature tends to go for hit and run tactics when hunting by pouncing from a tree or bush then darting up a tree.(Small prey such as parrots, pigs, ocelots and chickens are some exceptions).
When such a beast is killed, it offers the player its hide which can be crafted into a cloak (Acts as chestpiece) which acts as a invisibility cloak of sorts. This cloak only works when not moving or crouch walking (Just like the beast), the surface of the cloak will match the surrounding blocks in its environment.
Yeah this one is kinda bad now that i think of it. Thought i would just put it out there.
I really like your mod and the work you do. I've seen so many new mob suggestions and I agree that you need to be picky about them. I have a mob suggestion. Necromancer (possesing necromancy powers) This new mob would be found in a dungeon or a special room in a cave. When the player finds the Necromancer it has 2 choices: Serve him or fight him. Players that choose to serve him shall bring him items every day or so like ( ?amount of bones,?amount of rotten flesh, skulls, and maybe even a special item that allows the Necromancer to upgrade his powers and in return he will give the player powers of Necromancy (being able to summon skeletons without bows from the ground, create a sircle around itself of decay magic, being able to leave your body and posses an undead mob. If the player chooses to fight him than the Necromancer will use his powers to kill the player and if the player manages to defeat him, he shall be rewarded with "The Dead Manuscript" that will teach the player the dark arts of Necromancy and making him a Necromancer (this should be a lot harder to gain the powers) This is a very basic undetailed description of the Necromancer but I hope you got the idea. His powers can be diffrent but I just wrote the first powers that came into my mind about Necromancy.
Couldn't you just have the foliath seed check if its being right clicked on a flower pot, and if it does you replace the pot with a custom TE? As long as it drops a flower pot, the illusion should work.

Nah nothing complicated just let us "plant" them on flower pots like we can on dirt.
Basically what B_Wither says

That might work, actually. I'll think about it.
Right. Hm...
Well, the problem there is that you'd still be able to plant regular plants in the flower pot. It wouldn't be "occupied" by the foliaath.
