How about this: the main mechanics are still the same, but instead of a main body and arms, it's a Summoner of sorts? Maybe a dark swirl of black smoke that forms into a somewhat solid shape, would also explain how it goes in and out of solid walls. At this point it would probably be different enough that it wouldn't even resemble the Dead Hand anymore, really.
Hm, I'm really not a fan of mob griefing. As a similar idea, though, I thought of adding dopey vulture-like birds that fly low above deserts and occasionally drop egg-bombs that pop when they hit the ground.
That's a cool mechanic. Need to do some thinking about the mob itself.
Also cool, but I kind of feel like giving beasts military-like coordination would break their characterization as animals and disjoint the design. Maybe a hostile sentient race rides these beasts into battle?
About the avian bomber, I'm thinking what if it scooped up clumps of sand (passed through the blocks but didnt destroy any) in the dessert with extremely large claws or, to add a more unique look, scoop up sand in their mouth or open a chest cavity.
With the tameable fire turret, I'm thinking it could spawn in the somewhat rare above-ground lava pools at night. it could work as a sort of ambusher creature that has a slightly large back/shoulder that pokes above the lava as it croutches in wait. It would then leap into the air and slam down onto the ground by the player and attack with an abundance of fire-related attacks that could include;
-breathing out a short range stream of fire and spinning in a circle
-pausing to lob multiple splash damage fireballs around the player
-smacking with a large bony tail
-lighting itself on fire and charging at the player
-creating a sort of growling expression and spitting fire through its teeth that spreads in 3-5 directions and reaches up to 4 blocks away
It could be tamed via doucing it in water when it lights itself ablaze. that could leave it stunned (literally or just shoked) and gives you time to attempt to tame it the same way you'd tame a horse till it knocks you off and sets itself ablaze again.
Now concerning the fire beast that uses a military stratgey, this could be changed into technologically advanced goblins that could rome the land paving a path for their empire
They could be tamed by a means currently unknown and be used to stage battles with barakoa
The goblins would focuse on small task forces with 2 fire starters (have the miniture mobile mortars) and 3 shield units (will stay in close proximity to the fire starters and will knock you back with their shields, maybe also perriodically push down thier shields to use a crosebow thats mounted on its inside)
The goblins would spawn again near villages and could add a theme to your mod that shows an evil force attempting to convert a magical word into machine
You probably think that this question is annoying, but will this mod be ported to 1.12.2? Would be a great addition the soon to be updated Ice and Fire.
Also, do you take ideas? Like, concepts for creatures. I've been seeing a ton on my search for 1.12 news. If you do I think that is a really cool thing for you to do.
Hello Bob, i have a idea to the mod.
A demon that can be found in the nether. He would have some foremen, resembling that of the vanilla Evoker. The foremen would be left with an infernal sword, that when they hit you, you would be on fire. The devil would have a trident that would damage the area. He could make the ground on which you are (nether rack) turn into a magma block, and also he could drop a fire attack combo that would be like his special.
When you killed him, he would drop the Trident and fragments of the demon, in which you could armor him, and with the armor you would not take lava or fire damage.
And I have another idea.
Maybe a pharaoh that could be found in pyramids in the desert, he would have an attack of calling mummies from tombs, and they would be wrapping you in his "garment," in which you would be trapped for 30 seconds and could not do anything. Pharaoh would make a sandstorm that would get you stuck too. Pharaoh could also go by himself and try to kill you.
By killing Pharaoh a passage would open and there would be a treasure chest.
And of course, when you kill him he would drop something, I do not know what I'm without ideas now :z
Ps: Sorry for bad english, i'm from Brazil and I used the google translate to translate this :v
i had a dream last night that there was an update to this mod which added a creepy mantis-like mob about the size of a cave spider which would live in the Mesa biome and crawl up and down all surfaces and made little chit-chatter/croaking sounds. it would fly at you to gain speed raising its claws and when in range, striking them down on you. it also had a special attack which involved the thing impaling you with its claws and shaking you around like a rag-doll. maybe this dream could become a reality? : D
I have come up with another idea, hopefully this time it will fit better.
The name is still a WIP but for now i call it a Dune Sailback or just Sailback.
Found In hot desert regions, Sailbacks are giant reptilian beasts that spend their time underground to keep cool. Often resting with their top sail sticking out of the ground to absorb heat to use as a deadly weapon if disturbed. Any traveler that threatens them will most likely be scorched by a fiery ball of death which they are able to produce by absorbing sunlight. If not, then their foe will be crushed by their thick and spiky chin which they use to burrow with or be scratched with by their claws. They are a deadly beast for any adventuring trying to hunt them for their valuable fire sack. The fire sack is what allows the Sailback to store and produce fire from their mouths. Killing the beast may provide a lucky warrior one of these sacks which if squeezed will shoot a small burst of flame. Some may be unlucky and end up with a empty sack due to the beast using it up during battle or not charging it. If this is the case then they can charge it them selves by leaving it in the sun or heating it in an oven. The sack can also be used as a good fuel source, being able to smelt much more iron then coal can.
This is optional V
These creatures also come in two color variety. Either a pale sandy color in normal deserts or a orange-red color in red deserts or mesas.
If you want me to go more in depth with stats and drops and etc, just let me know.
P.S - The picture in the corner of the Sailback drawing is a very rough top down view.
Again, it's not a bad idea, but it's not what I'm looking for. Mechanically, it's a mob that moves towards you and shoot fireballs. Minecraft has these already. The drop you described is nearly identical to vanilla fire charges. As for the design, I often find tooth-and-claws to be a bit boring. They're usually themeless chimeras of disjointed abilities. You've done a nice job with the sail integration, but it plays little role in the mob's mechanics. Sorry.
Well, there is a summoner mob in vanilla, but perhaps you're thinking of something different. This is, of course, a different idea entirely. Let me know what else you come up with for it.
About the avian bomber, I'm thinking what if it scooped up clumps of sand (passed through the blocks but didnt destroy any) in the dessert with extremely large claws or, to add a more unique look, scoop up sand in their mouth or open a chest cavity.

The goblins would spawn again near villages and could add a theme to your mod that shows an evil force attempting to convert a magical word into machine
Well, I kinda liked the bird/egg-projectile design theme. I'll definitely keep it in mind, though. Thanks.
I quite like this! Using water to tame a fire beast is thematically and mechanically solid.
This is really cool, but would take a lot of work to develop. Even more than the Barakoa, likely. Still, worth keeping in mind.
Yep! I'm very particular about what ideas I hold on to, though.

Hm, I feel like these ideas could use a more unique twist with their designs or mechanics. At the moment, neither of them feel like they would add something truly new to the game.

Is this mod only being developed by you? It sounds really hard to do all the texturing, coding, modelling, and animating all by yourself, i think you should maybe look into getting a team. (not trying to say i can help you, i cant do anything, i just really like this mod and want to see it grow)
If you could be a little less ambiguous and a little more to the point, that would probably speed up conversation a bit.
I could see Bob answer this message with another: "All depends. What did you have in mind?"
Well I guess I really do need to be a little more specifc, so yeah I'll try doing that.
What I meant by having a "minigame" gimmick is that the usual hack and slashing wouldn't work on this mob(I mean you kinda already did the same with the wroughtnaut with all that attack their backs thing which I really like but this is different). This gimmick would have you do something else that isn't merely swinging your sword.
For example: The "hot potato" gimmick I mentioned earlier. If you know the game "Hot potato" , then I guess you'll know what this is leading to. This mechanic would have it so that the mob catches you, it would attach the "hot potato" onto you which will damage you if you don't get rid of it in time, and to get rid of it, you must catch that mob, who will now be running away from you, and pass that "hot potato" back to it, who, in turn will chase you again until it can attach the "hot potato" back onto you, and the whole thing repeats until time runs out. Of course, if the mob has the "hot potato" on it, that mob will take the damage instead.
....yeah it feels like I didn't really give the best example here.
Of course, this entire "minigame" gimmick would only work well if it comes from some miniboss/boss that you'll willingly approach because being forced into a "minigame' everytime a mob like this spots you does not sound like a pleasant experience at all.
Question regarding ancient version 1.7.10, MobProperties, and Mowzie's Mobs:
Trying to add loot drops to the Sun God, which does exist, but only through creative and a spawn egg. I've created a crafting recipe so that survival players can fight him (combine all 5 masks together) but, there is no generated MobProperties file for him which I assume is because he's not technically supposed to be part of that version.
So, my question is: What is his entity name? I may be off on my terminology, so I'll give an example of what a Tribesman Elite shows as in JAS/MobProperties:
mowziesmobs.TribesmanElite
This is the same "name" I'm looking for, for the Sun Chief, so that I can add loot drops to him using MobProperties.
The only other question I'd have is, if you'd know if manually adding drops would even work since MobProperties doesn't automatically register him. (I can always try to check with MobProperties on that one if you're not sure, but figured I'd ask just in case.)
EDIT: Nevermind. I found him under mowziesmobs.TribeLeader .. I was too focused on his in game name.

Hm, I feel like that would make the fight revolve around something a bit too random. Hot potato is very unpredictable.
However, this could be great for a single attack in a larger fight.
however, i'm gonna list, in my opinion, the MOST original.
"The Flameserpent" is a Neutral mob that only turns aggressive when you get within 5 blocks of it. it is a red-scaled, winged, flame-tailed snake-like being. they say the stronger Serpents can live after death, as a Skeleton. they are 7 blocks long (aside from the boss, which is 10 blocks long, and the babies, which are 5 blocks and really thin) that has different genders/ranking.
females have long feelers (sorta like sylveon from Pokemon) on their head, and a slight glitter in their scales
Males have a dark set of horns on their head
babies have shorter horns/feelers depending on the gender
the "Dreadful Flamewraith" is the leader of the flock of beasts. about 3/4s of the way down its body, its tail splits into 4, each having flame on the end.
all flameserpents can defend themselves by flying into the air and performing a whip-like motion, shooting a fireball at you, or swooping from the sky and biting you. the flameserpents have 20 health each, with the babies being passive.
Spawn Locations: on the peaks of Extreme Mountains, Extreme Mountains +, Nether.
All the flameserpents can ignite nether materials, so its extra dangerous to fight them there.
"The Dreadful Flamewraith"
This massive beast is the leader of the pack. its quad tails and massive fangs are nothing to be messed with. this beast has 50 hearts.
Attacks:
Quad Flamebolt: Performs the whip-like motion all the Flameserpents can do, but shoots 4 fireballs.
Chomp: swoops down and bites you, sometimes inflicting poison
Death 1:
After being defeated, it crashes into the ground, everything except the skeletal structure turns to dust. But the skeleton starts flying again, unleashing a ear-splitting roar.
"The Skeletal HellSerpent"
The second life of the FlameWraith, this beast is even stronger, and has 100 hearts. as the name suggests, its a living skeleton, and this will be harder to fight.
Attacks:
Absolute Firestorm: points all 4 tails at you, then folds all of them out to 180 degrees. then the joint holding the 4 tails together starts rapidly spinning, and several fireballs are released, and aimed at your general direction. this is his strongest attack, and can easily reduce a full diamond armored player down to half health.
This beast uses all the attacks it knew before, but are stronger and have longer status effects.
Death 2:
It crashes into the ground (again) and the flames slowly begin to weaken, after about 5 seconds, they go out, and the skeleton starts disappearing (like the ender dragon's death animation, just yellow-red)
Reward:
a FlameSerpent egg. the flameserpent hatched will always be a child, as it takes 1000 years for a flameserpent to grow. it has a 45% chance to be a boy, 45% chance to be a girl, and 10% chance to be a FlameWraith. flamewraith. the flamewraith hatchling is the strongest flameserpent to have for a pet. the normal flameserpents have 20 health, and are healed with fire charges, or cooked meat. Flamewraith hatchlings are 50 hearts and eat Flint, Iron, Cooked Meat, fire charges, AND flint and steel. cooked meat heals the least amount, at 1.5 hearts, Fire Charges heal 3, Flint/Iron heal 5, and a flint and steel heals 20. they cannot be ridden due to their age and strength, but will help defend you in a pinch.
After being defeated, it crashes into the ground, everything except the skeletal structure turns to dust. But the skeleton starts flying again, unleashing a ear-splitting roar.
Imo the first death should be like the vampires from the Blade movies, with them bursting into fiery ashes and only the skeleton being left behind, instead of just turning to dust
Incase you haven't the slightest clue of what I am talking about:
It fits more with the whole fire aesthetic it has, just my opinion tho
The shadow hand idea sounds really cool!

Mowzie how do you feel about mobs who have combat systems that are more more akin to minigames than actual combat? Just wondering.

Hello, Mowzie! I was wondering...are you planning in updating the mod to 1.12.2?
Minecraft Fan! And modder wanna be!
I get a lot of technical help from pau101. He has a lot of great mods you should check out:

a FlameSerpent egg. the flameserpent hatched will always be a child, as it takes 1000 years for a flameserpent to grow. it has a 45% chance to be a boy, 45% chance to be a girl, and 10% chance to be a FlameWraith. flamewraith. the flamewraith hatchling is the strongest flameserpent to have for a pet. the normal flameserpents have 20 health, and are healed with fire charges, or cooked meat. Flamewraith hatchlings are 50 hearts and eat Flint, Iron, Cooked Meat, fire charges, AND flint and steel. cooked meat heals the least amount, at 1.5 hearts, Fire Charges heal 3, Flint/Iron heal 5, and a flint and steel heals 20. they cannot be ridden due to their age and strength, but will help defend you in a pinch.
haha unoriginal signature go brr
Imo the first death should be like the vampires from the Blade movies, with them bursting into fiery ashes and only the skeleton being left behind, instead of just turning to dust
Incase you haven't the slightest clue of what I am talking about:
It fits more with the whole fire aesthetic it has, just my opinion tho
sugar is bad for you
Why not make a creature like weeping angles?
Mowzie has already said he makes only original creatures. He takes inspiration from no shows.
