Cmon bro, this cant happen to you XD You installed the version 1.1 (dat version is for mc 1.7) in mc 1.8
You have to install the 1.0 version (latest version for minecraft 1.8)
Also im surprised that nuke duck didnt notice it
1.1 is available for both 1.7.10 and 1.8. I assume that Killjoy installed the 1.8 version and not the 1.7.10 version.
As for the error, it's very hard to tell what the issue is without anything more to the message. I've never encountered it myself, which is weird because the version I used for testing was 1299... I'll keep trying to find out what's wrong.
EDIT: If I can't work it out, then there could have been an issue with my upload or your download (some corruption could have occurred). I'll reupload if there's no other evident issue.
I'm afraid I don't know what to say. I just downloaded the file directly from the MediaFire link for 1.8. I have Forge 1299 for 1.8 installed and no other mods. There is absolutely no issue starting up and no errors. All I can say is try re-downloading the file.
Is that all the unicode that will be added or will there be more? I'm not experienced at all in this, so I'm not sure what limitations are
I can add in any Unicode character you want, assuming it's not a special console keycode (i.e. it wouldn't render anyway). So I can put in anny character, feel free to give suggestions (I just put in the interesting or useful ones I could find, rather than adding in all the different alphabets, unusual symbols and so on, which would make a very long list).

Looks pretty good, but seems to mess up its placement with other mods installed. I would recommend forcing it on top of other gui elements
Sadly I'm not sure if that's possible. I can't render on top of vanilla GUIs like signs or command blocks, either. Anyway, the GUI will still work whether or not it's under other parts of the HUD.

I really like this mod. Thank you for making it!
Perhaps you could make it so that people could add Unicode characters themselves somehow? Like making the list editable. You could even add tabs to the list for organisational purposes.

Hmm, that's a good idea. I could either use a config file or perhaps have the client download the list of unicode characters when it starts, so then people could submit characters to one big list. Thoughts?
So how does this work.. I've found unicode lists online but most of the characters didn't work in minecraft for me. How do you determine what works & what doesn't?

Any character will work, but the way that Minecraft is coded, you can't copy-paste or input them manually - the code that it runs off doesn't allow it. However, if you add Unicode symbols directly into the textbox without having any keyboard input (i.e. clicking on one of the buttons), there's no issue. So, any printable (visible) Unicode character would work just fine.
Dang, so how hard is it to add unicode? No offence intended, but would it be hard to add "all" the unicode? Or would that be too hard, and reverting to user added unicode would be better.

It would be pretty easy to add all Unicode, but there's one big problem: there are currently about 100,000 characters mapped into Unicode. You can imagine how long that list would be, it would take hours just to find the symbol you need (even if it was set out into tabs). I suppose if I added a search function as well, it would be viable to add every single Unicode character, but I imagine that might cause a little bit of lag, searching through so many characters.

I like the idea of a config file for it. That way people can edit it how they want them.
