Dude, this mod is built for modpack, this mean It was built in the intention of being used in someone modpack!
Would be pretty stupid to make such mod when people can't use it in their modpack... rofl!

Does this mod work without Mariculture? I feel kind of silly asking, but I found the mod yesterday, and most of the info seems to be more for people who have been following since version 1. As such I'm still guessing a little as to what it does and who it is for.
I've added it to my mod folder and the recipes now show up in Just Enough Items. But I can't BUILD them. The Library sounded interesting, but maybe I need some other mod to be able to actually get it?
If anything Mariculture would need this mod, not the other way around ;).
This mod is 100% standalone. Other than the library which is more for end users, the books part of the mod is intended mostly for pack authors to be able to describe their packs in better detail, with images, and recipes and links. Which version do you have btw? The only thing that should have a recipe is the library, (in 3.0.1). Which is why I'm asking because the original release of 3.0.0 didn't have a recipe for it. Although if you just downloaded it, you're going to be on the latest, so I'm not sure why the recipes wouldn't be working. Did you happen to have 3.0.0 before? Because just updating from 3.0.0 to 3.0.1 wouldn't make the recipe for the library work (you'd need to delete the library.json in the config folder).
I really should reword or rewrite the description to not just talk about update side, but I'd rather work on things. Maybe one day I'll get around to it >.>.
I have 3.0.1 and have never had a previous version. I'm using Minecraft 1.8.9/Forge/Etc. I'm in a survival world that I added Enchiridion to AFTER creation, so that might be a problem. I've tried book-and-quills and written books, but neither have worked.
Enchiridion - 3.1.0
• Available for 1.8.9 and 1.9
• Added the ability to save and load templates, as well as setting them as default or not.
• Added Preview windows and the option to make pages scrollable (which looks stupid normally), However these are intended to be used in the preview windows. So you can have a scrollable section within the books.
• Because of the above, the arrows are now a template that are defaulted to defaultly be added
• Added toggle visibility of layers action to buttons
• You can now resize the hover/unhover text with buttons like they were text
• Selecting a layer will now act as if you had selected the layer directly (You can't select locked layers) (allowing the use of ctrl click on layers etc)
• Fix button copying, not copying the text label fields
• Fix item and recipe copying not copying the tooltip field
• Updated the enchiridion book
• Added Ctrl + X support to copying features aka cut.
• Instead of shift clicking buttons in edit mode, you now simply right or middle click them (Less chance of conflict with shift resizing)
First, as someoe who is planning on dealing with a lot of lists, would it be possible to add a box with a checkmark that can be toggled whether or not the book is currently editable?
Second, it would be nice if the Preview functiohad the option of starting at the top of a page, instead of at a fixed point. Again, maybe a toggle. This isn't too big of a deal but it takes a bit of doing if you have multiple Previews (of different pages) on the same page to get them all going properly.
Third: within the editor itself a "Jump to" page would be amazing. Right now you have to scroll along the bottom to find the page you want. Which isn't too bad if you're dealing with shorter books. But if you've got longer books (or intend to hide pages from non-editable readers in the boonies) it can become a a bit of a pain.

Ever wanted to be a blacksmith?
joshie would it be possible to add confirmation that this can be used in modpacks to the OP?
Solution: change your Minecraft UI (user interface) size smaller. I had the same problem.
my published mods
Is there a way to give a custom book a custom item texture?
Just a heads up, Enchiridion is available for testing on 1.8.9

If everything goes alright I'll put it up on CurseForge on Monday.
Released/Updated for 1.8.9
