Ok, using both mods, though I am not fond of a dozen tool sets/armor/weapons....
However, I can live with it, since there is no other uses for all these nice metals.
As for the Saprolite, the current texture makes it look 'track-like' in it's repeating pattern... and it has no use other than being a block? not even a polished version?
The only Feature I would like is to individually turn off/on specific layer strata and/or Choose the sequence via config?
Beautiful Mod, as is your loot-able bodies mod!
Want to work on making an Airship/Flying Machine mod? (or convert Archimedes Airships to 1.8 (I asked, it's open source on a Git)???)
Hi GrimmLiberty, thanks for giving Base Metals a try. I'm planing to make more mods that use those metals (e.g. brass steam pipes) and I'm hoping that other people making 1.8 mods will use Base Metals for their materials as well (wishful thinking, I know). If you want a good laugh, try wearing lead armor and see what happens.
Saprolite is a type of soil caused by the decomposition of rocks in a humid environment and is the only place where the minerals of nickel are found in high concentrations (I basically added saprolite to accompany the addition of nickel in Base Metals). The texture came from editing a photo. I wish I knew the magic formula to trick the brain into not seeing the repetitive pattern (I find that it's much less apparent using the medium resolution textures instead of the high-res ones). Should I make Saprolite tillable or able to be crafted into dirt?
Disabling specific blocks from spawning in layers is a good idea. I'll add that in the next update. As for the order of the layers, that's actually random and is dependent on your world seed.
Hmmm, a flying machine mod... I have been thinking about doing something like that. I don't think that I want to go as far as Archimedes Airships, as that would be a big undertaking that is hard to break down into smaller steps, but I have a tech progression mod idea (Power Advantage) on the back burner and vehicles (including flying ones) would fit well into that. I was waiting to finish Base Metals before doing more work on Power Advantage so I could use the metals and crusher recipes. I could really use some help with textures, if you or anyone you know is interested.

Maybe you could make it in to 'dirt' that thinks there is water near it, even when there isn't. That would be very useful.
The texture isn't all that bad, I just like complaining maybe? ;-P
As for Using the metals, AWESOME AWARD granted! for having some plans. Especially a tech progression mod.
Oh, interesting about the random layers being based on the seed, because something must have changed last iteration? I used to have shale near the water line and now have gypsum. Possibly because you added another layer in Saprolite? In any event, I like the way it used to look, and it made more sense in geology terms... lol....
I would kill for air ships. And I just mentioned AA because I asked him if he was updating to 1.8 and got a definite 'no, but you can if you want, it's open source and shared'.... I am not that good at java. BUT I would like even the simplest airships... lol...
As for textures, I had been thinking of asking you if you wanted someone to make some new textures for you? I hesitated because I dislike typing for communication and have had bad experiences with mis-interpretation. Since you brought it up it makes it better, heh. I would be willing to make any textures you want. I am currently trying to formulate a 64x64 texture pack for all the mods I have in my world, which is hard, because I included plants mega pack... I have thousands of textures to create...

I've discovered that this mod doesn't work when I have other mods installed? I've started a new world separate to my main one and for some reason all that is generating is default stone, none of the new rock types are spawning.
Is this a bug, or was this behavior purposely coded in? all of my other mods seem to be working fine for me.
The 1.7.10 version replaces the world provider, so another mod that does the same would basically undo the Mineralogy mod.
If you are using Mineralogy in Minecraft 1.8, then that shouldn't happen because the stone is replaced after world generation and therefore it doesn't matter if the world provider has changed.

DrCyano - I'm working with Minerology and Base Metals as part of a "starter"/"basic" 1.8 modpack for my friends and I to play on a server together.
From the last post (2 days ago) it looks like I'll be able to use BiomeOPlenty with this mod, as well as mods which change dungeons? Also, will this work with extra-dimensional generations? I'm planning to use Skylands mod and/or Essence of the Gods mod which adds additional dimensions, and it would be awesome to have added variety in these unique worlds.
If you would like, I can report back any oddities and successes in my venture with all the mods I'll be using. It would be great to be able to talk to you live, perhaps on IRC (esper) if possible.
Thanks,
AeSix

That's great! I'd love to hear about how that works out. If it's a public mod-pack, I'd like to test it out for myself as well.
As for other dimensions, I don't think I put in a dimension check in the generation algorithm, so it will probably affect all dimensions (I'm not sure whether that counts a s a bug or a feature). I'll send you a PM with my Skype ID.

I don't know, I tried running the mod by itself under 1.7.10 and created a new creative world, it still is not working. I'll try running this under 1.8 and see if that works.
EDIT: Seems to work under 1.8, perhaps I used the wrong jar?
Oh, sorry about that. I should have made it a little more clear: only version 1.00 is for Minecraft 1.7.10, all versions 2.x.x are for Minecraft 1.8.
I switched to Minecraft 1.8 as soon as was possible (beforethe Forge API was even out for Minecraft 1.8). Backporting to 1.7.10 would be a bit of effort because I'd have to rewrite all of the stuff related to blocks (and this mod is 95% blocks).
@GrimmLiberty: Thank-you. I'm glad you like this mod. As for the gypsum, what happened is that the gypsum block was accidentally left off of the sedimentary layer spawn list and when I fixed that bug, it appeared as layers (as was originally intended). If you updated your world, then it would be suddenly appearing in new chunks. I might make it spawn like ores in version 2.5, but I'd make it have really big deposits (like several hundred blocks in a single deposit) because I want gypsum to feel like a cheap resource.

I wouldn't mind that at all, Large/Huge deposits would be better IMHO... I get why you put it in the layers, but it works better for me not in a layer, as my world is so Deep that pockets would be more prevalent than most people's layers... . (yeah, I'm selfish that way, LOL)
I had to drop my numbers down quite a bit because of Stone Beaches doing VERY funky things if I didn't (generally in a Mandelbrot type pattern):
: So this is what I ended up with overall.... (the cloud height was set to 160% via Optifine):
The water level is at 105 ... the mountains are up to 250 high in places, but most average about 175
Here is a good 'Valley' view... from a height of 140 :
PLEASE NOTE the Gypsum layers you can see above.... That area has THREE layers of it and all are between 10 and 16 blocks deep ...LOL
Below is what it looks like with my compilation resource pack so far... :
@Trylox: Version 1.00 basically reimplements the default terrain generation algorithm from Minecraft, so it will ignore extra settings like flat world and large biomes, but versions 2.x.x do not touch the terrain generation algorithm and do the stone replacement after the terrain is generated so you can use the custom world types to your heart's content (that's how GrimmLiberty is able to make such fantastically beautiful worlds).
BTW, those screenshots are jaw-dropping, GrimmLiberty. I give you the Awesome World-Builder Award.

@DragonStudios: The spawning is based on your world seed, so you may just be unlucky. Try generating a few test worlds and if those also don't have sedimentary rocks, then there's another bug I gotta fix. Also, what version of Forge (full version string) and java are you using and which other mods to you have installed?
