Since diorite might be a bit hard to acquire, order within the next 10 seconds and the recipe also works with all variants of stone and cobblestone!
And dirt and dirt variants, for backwards compatibility with Podzol to Diamonds! So if you were fretting because you couldn't convert podzol to diamonds in your 1.8 world, fret no more!

Also diorite is very very common. BUT aside from all that....if you really want more diamonds in your world, you could just remake a new map and tweek the settings to make diamonds show up more frequently and/or higher up then 16, and so on. =/
