Online Chat is a Minecraft Forge mod that adds a new feature into Minecraft that has never been done before. Has there ever been a time when you wanted to play on your single player world but you also wanted to talk to friends on Minecraft? It has never been possible within Minecraft before. Usually you will have to add each other on Skype, exchange information, and a bunch of other annoying things. Online Chat takes care of these annoyances and brings the chatting feature to Minecraft.
By simply pressing a button and typing a few numbers you can quickly and easily setup your own chatting server or connect to a friends! The chatting capability is incorporated directly in your Minecraft client. Currently there are only 4 different client commands that you can use:
Commands:
/chat - Broadcasts a message to all users in the room
/c - Same function as using /chat just simplfied
/chatusers - Lists all of the users in your current chat room
/leavechat - Leaves the chat room you are currently in
/shutdownchat - Shuts down the chat server if you are running one
I have a lot of future features to add in that will add more capabilities and powers that users can use. For now I have only laid out the basic functions and features that are needed in a chat.
If you want to run a server you have to bind it to a port of your choosing. It can be any port you want, except for a few, but if you want people to connect to it that are not connected to your WiFi you need to do something called . There are a ton of tutorials online and if you are able to get access to your router you will have no problems doing it.
I have also added a feature to the mod that allows you to open a separate window that displays all of the users in your chat room and all of the messages. It also lets you send messages from that window instead of directly in Minecraft. Keep in mind you are not required to use this feature.
Server Owners - Running A Separate Chat Server
For all of the server owners out there, this is a great opportunity to add a new feature into your server. Below in the downloads you will see a separate link that leads to a download of the standalone server. This includes a .jar file of the Server and a .bat that will run it for you with the console to display outputs.
Here is a video on how the mod works and how to setup a basic chat server and connect to it:

Downloads - Support the modders, use Adfly!
Forge - This mod does require Forge so make sure to install it before hand.
Installing the mod is very simple. Go to your Minecraft directory and drop "OnlineChat-1.0.jar" into the Mods folder. Then run Minecraft after it on your Forge version.
Please leave comments, feedback, and suggestions for the mod!
Anyone have any suggestions to add or comments on the mod?
Yes, add a way to have separate rooms/channels in the server chat rooms so groups of people on a server can talk together without everyone on the server being involved.

Some suggestions:
Add a config file where you can set to automatically join an specific server.
And when you join, to tell the user the basic commands.
