Yep, the current version of EC works flawlessly on 1.7.10! We do have an update hopefully coming out soon that will *officially* update it to 1.7.10 as well as add a bunch of new content and such, but for now the latest 1.7.2 version should work perfectly fine.
Some of them generate too often as of right now imho, but it's not really an issue so much as a very minor annoyance. Other than that, yes. They generate perfectly fine. Can't say that I've had an issue with Elemental Caves at all, in fact. I quite enjoy it.

I have seen the fire and ice caves, but I have yet to run into a forest cave. I been through a lot of forests including jungles but have not found one yet, are they super rare? because the ice caves and the fire ones are insanely common.
Forest Caves *should* generate in any cave within a Forest, Roofed Forest, Birch Forest, or Jungle biome, but let us know if they aren't for some reason. They also only generate where normal caves would generate in Vanilla, so you could just be getting really un-lucky with the caves in that particular seed.
I have some questions about this mod; Can you configure how often elemental caves spawn over normal caves, will modded ores spawn within an elemental cave, and can I use this mod in my modpack?

I will test random seeds for ya, so far, still no forest caves, but I will keep looking.
Edit 1: I removed all my mods and tested elemental caves alone, the forest caves spawn, and VERY often. It was a mod, now to see which mod is causing the issue.
Edit 2: Biomes O' Plenty seems to cause forest caves not to generate. Even if I dont select the biomes o' plenty world generator and use the default. I will do more testing on this with more seeds to conclude that it is indeed biomes o' plenty.
Edit 3: I tried it 4 times, 2 with BoP, 2 without. Both forests with BoP were empty with no forest caves, setting on default world gen. However, without BoP, Forest caves are unbelievably common. I dig down and BAM! Forest cave. I conclude that there is a gen issue with the forest caves and BoP.

Due to some technical issues we've been having (see THIS post), progress on our main mod, Minestrappolation, has been delayed quite a bit, and by extension so has progress on E.C., as well as all of our other modding projects. Our hope is to get a ton of progress done on everything during Winter break, but due to how busy we are IRL currently, we can't really guarantee any release dates yet.

At the rate their currently diminished dev team is going, it doesn't sound like a stable release for 1.8 will be out for quite some time, so you shouldn't have to worry about not having enough 1.7 support.
Quick question, regarding usage of the API. I'm working on a world generation mod, (an Underground Biomes Constructs compatible cave decorator) and the caves API does exactly what I'm looking for, in terms of hijacking cave generation. I was wondering if you had any policy on whether it's open source and free to use?

Just for the record, it may be on BoP's side. I've been using Enhanced Biomes and the caves still generate fine, in all biomes.
