Just yesterday a friend and I put together a server using this mod. First let me say that this mod looks amazing, the work on the new blocks, the cabling, the facade blocks, even the sky stone and ore look great. Also your website is helpful and far better than most mod websites.
We've been playing vanilla for years and only recently have begun exploring the amazing things that people have been making with the game: mods, tools, resource packs, etc. That in mind, after playing for a bit and watching some videos about the mod, the essential question we kept asking was: why? Why would I want to store 10k cobble? Why would I want to format a drive to only store one type of item when it can hold so many? Why would I want to automate the crafting of any item when the game makes it so easy to make more than I'll ever need at a basic crafting table if I have the material?
I know there are some good answers to these questions, but as someone who is fresh to the mod scene, I think it would be super helpful to provide some practical use-cases for all the things that this mod provides. Maybe many of the use cases involve other mods, which might make sense considering my lack of experience.
I hope I don't offend by asking these questions. I can see that a ton of hard work and time went into this mod. Sometimes it's hard to see things from a new user's perspective after having been immersed in a project for so long. Maybe my questions can help you to improve your mod, or make it more approachable to new players.

I think the most practical answer to why; is other mods.
Sounds kinda silly a first, but in vanila you generally have a few chests of items and can process and block your items into storage pretty easily. when playing with 30-40 mods or more the shear quantity of items yous start getting, and the rate you get them via industrialization and ore processing, and even mods that provide quarrying can become quite sizable, and when you need to do 1000 crafts to make a single item, auto crafting starts making more and more sense.
No, AE2's blocks and items are totally different from AE1. I do plan on providing some way to move storage cells from ae1 to ae2 at least, but beyond that no.
Too add to this, at the moment transfering any existing world to 1.7.2, without loosing blocks and items is impossible. I hope the fixes being worked on by the Forge team solve this, but we'll wait and see.
If loosing your machines is a problem, you can always generate a new world with the same seed and creative mode, temp swap out the level.dat files, and spawn some of your stuff back. Then put the original level.dat files back.

Thanks for the genuine response. I am quite the noob when it comes to mods, up to this point I've been selective about which ones I try; testing them in isolation. I guess the next question is, out of curiosity, which mods would you (or anyone else, please) recommend? What kind of mods work well with AE2?
Yes, it is forbidden to sell items in the mod for money, this does not forbid server donations, but it does forbid selling of the items in the mod, or the mod itself for real money. Doing so is against the copyright, and also I beleive against the minecraft eula.
Why would I let someone sell the items I've spent over a year making by devoing nearly every hour of my free time that I only get donations for, for $5 an item, that would be ridiculous.
Thank you for your time. The reason I asked was to better understand how mod developers feel about others using their mods. The last thing I'd want to do is discourage mod makers from continuing develop their mods. I realize that it takes countless hours to do what you do, so Thank you.
You sell mod items for money? that's like tyrannical...
I do not sell mod items for money. I was asking if it's against the terms of use. Am I being mis-understood or does every server I have ever seen totally disrespecting mod authors? This is typically what I see on every Minecraft server website. Are they not following your terms of use? http://www.floppycraft.com/s

Oh man totally. That violates everything for sure. It's sad people out there are falling for this crap.
you know the creative cell would have been better *in 1.6.4 but if its still doing it here then its 1.7.2* if you could store like the storage cells except it would have unlimited bytes but 63 types still *maybe unlimited*

I'm not sure why storing infinite items would be useful in creative mode; when producing infinite items is much more in line with what creative mode is all about.
it seems i cant pre-partition the storage cells and there isnt an option to name the cells.when i try to pre it with cobble it seems to work but when its in the drive the cell accepts anything not just the cobble.im not sure if using the cell-workbench to pre-it is the way todo so the new 1.7 confuse me alot
dont get me wrong i like the new blocks and tiles
when i break a terminal it breaks the cable also and i cant put a cable back in even after i put a block in it and remove it
the only way to fix it sofar is restarting the server
When I partition drives it works just fine.
Naming drives must be done like naming other items, via the anvil, or via the inscriber.
I cannot reproduce any sort of issue with not being able to place cables.
The ME Toggle Bus uses an channel, although the wiki is nothing about it. The same applies also to the ME Inverted Toggle Bus
I'm not sure if this fact was forgotten in the wiki, or whether it is to be a bug in the mod itself ...
I guess the next question is, out of curiosity, which mods would you (or anyone else, please) recommend? What kind of mods work well with AE2?
Most of the time, tech-based mods are the ones that work the best in conjunction with AE. Right now, there's not much out there aside from Buildcraft 5 as far as I'm aware. (There's also BC6, but that's still in pre-alpha and not Survival-ready in the slightest.) There's also IC2 Experimental, but I haven't had the chance to try that out yet.
Aside from those, NEI is just great for anything, and even though AE(2) is mostly about storage, Iron Chests and JABBA also have a place that can complement an AE system.
I don't have a lot of other recommendations off the top of my head, since there's only so much to work with so far and many mods are simply not ready yet. You can always just look at the list of 1.7.2 compatible mods and see if there's anything you might like.
ive tested 10 times now and it happens every time i get the ic2 power on the acceptor put full dense cells aside then use the ME Covered Cable - Black i put an ME terminal on the cable in front when i break the ME terminal the cable is gone too ,i can put cobble dirt sand in the empty spot but cant put the cable back in that spot and the only way to fix it is to restart the server ive retest it without power on the network and then there is no problem to put the cable back. if you still cant reproduce it i will record it tomorow night and put the tube link
If you break the terminal with a pick axe it will break the entire block, if you shift-right click with a wrench it will take jut the terminal off, but the rest of that still makes no sense, and I can't reproduce it are you playing in SSP? or using a server? if server are you using MCPC? and if so have you tried SSP.
Do you have a list of other mods, and what version of forge your using?
was working on the partition part before bed and found out it works fine but you need to use the fuzzy card otherwise the cell keeps accepting everything
I'm not sure why you your cell needs to be fuzzy to filter items, that doesn't make any sense.
Man, I can't wait to try out the sequel to AE, I might wait until a lot of the mods I use are stable (ha ha stable? for 1.7? NOPE).... or I might just sneak a cookie....

"I'm not sure why storing infinite items would be useful in creative mode; when producing infinite items is much more in line with what creative mode is all about." how about 2 different storages ATLEAST? that one produces infinite items and the other stores infinitely like the 1k-64k
*Originally gonna be "Why produce when your already IN creative mode when you can get infinite items just by shift clicking a item with NEI"*
but though im pretty glad that 1.7 has NO ID CONFLICTS anymore!

I believe they fixed this the other day, I've not tested it myself however.
I just don't really see the point to this.
why not!,its storing infinite items *as you please* in a 63 *or if you want to change to infinite* type so lets say i had this creative cell put about 1 million items into it *WAY FAR from what 1k-64k can do* and it would be infinite types *or 63 decision up to you* it would store all of those in that creative cell.
Seriously how is that not understandable it works like a 1k-64k storage unit but infinitely stores items *not duplicating them*

The only reason I would see for this is to play survival without storage limits, but this I don't see a point to this.

When did I say I didn't understand you?
yeah, but its off until CB gets a FMP build out that I can make sure it works with, until then its disabled.
