I take back the "not enough iron" comment, it appears to have been redistributed lower than it was before. When I finally went deep enough I found tons of it. I LOVE THAT GEMS HAVE A USE NOW!!!! Eatting gems for exp makes them totally useful, another brilliant idea since I was last here!
My buckets go poof when I try and pick up lava, I assume that was removed? Or do I just need like a mithril bucket or something?
Am I correct in assuming that I have to go to the nether to get blaze rods before I can smelt the Mithril I found into bars?
Am I also correct in assuming that diamonds can only be mined by mithril and up?
What's up with the dozens of types of slimes now and what do I do with all their slime balls? says missle damage....do I just chuck them at things???

Eatting gems for exp makes them totally useful, another brilliant idea since I was last here! Once you have blazerods you can make a brewing stand and recover villagers with the potion of weakness. Then you can trade wool for emeralds and major XP. Getting a villagers whose 13th trade is wool is fantastic as wool is the reset item as well. Unlimited emeralds and you don't have to give any back.
My buckets go poof when I try and pick up lava, I assume that was removed? Or do I just need like a mithril bucket or something? If you shift click on a bucket when it has lava in it, it will show you the % chance of melting when you try to retrieve lava. Sadly the only one that won't melt is Adamantium so your first 4 Adamantium ingots will go to a Adamantium Crafting Bench and a bucket. Another good move by Avernite.
Am I correct in assuming that I have to go to the nether to get blaze rods before I can smelt the Mithril I found into bars? Incorrect. You will need to smelt Adamantium in a Netherrack Furnace using Blaze rods. Mithril can be smelted in a Obsidian furnace with lava as fuel.
Am I also correct in assuming that diamonds can only be mined by mithril and up? Correct. Or maybe an Ancient Metal Pickaxe. I will have to try that since I got one from a Dungeon Chest.
What's up with the dozens of types of slimes now and what do I do with all their slime balls? says missle damage....do I just chuck them at things??? Yeah, that's all they are useful for and even that is pretty useless.
Adamantium crafting bench??? whaaaa? what does that do?
How do I get Lava if buckets melt? Or is it just a chance to melt and I have to get lucky?
TY for the responses and Merry Christmas!!!

oh one last thing...I made a nether portal and the color was not purple...and it randomly teleported me instead of taking me to the nether??? How do I make the portal that takes me to the nether?
Adamantium crafting bench??? whaaaa? what does that do? Oh wait a minute. What version are you playing? I was assuming you were on R.196 experimental branch? I.e. You will have made Copper, Iron, Ancient Metal, and Mithril Crafting Benches? If not I am afraid you need to abandon that world and start a new one under R196 for a whole new level of hurt! What version are you on?
How do I get Lava if buckets melt? Or is it just a chance to melt and I have to get lucky? Yup. Get lucky. What I did is use copper ones (even though they have the highest chance of melting) until I could get an adamantium one. Of course you can also use coal at first and risk the buckets only when smelting Mithril
TY for the responses and Merry Christmas!!! Merry Christmas to you too!

oh one last thing...I made a nether portal and the color was not purple...and it randomly teleported me instead of taking me to the nether??? How do I make the portal that takes me to the nether? You got transported back to somewhere in the overworld correct? If so you went back to origin (co-ordinates 0,0), which will be reasonably near to spawn. A portal on the bedrock of the overworld will take you to the dark and spooky underworld. A portal on the fiery Mantle blocks at the bottom of the Underworld will take you to the nether.

Some Links you may not have discovered.
R196 can be downloaded from Avernite's Google Drive here.
Some helpful files (MITE Dates for Dummies) and my Hi Res Texture Pack can be downloaded from this Forum Page I created.
Knoxx setup a useful web page that has the recipes on it (for R196). The server unfortunately is finished now.
Hi All. So I was progressing really well in my first Single Player R196 world (I will post more info about some of my achievement dates later) and I have my villagers proving me lots of XP through wool trading. I have, however, kind of ground to a slow trudge due to an amazing lack of Mithril or Adamantium anywhere. I think I have about 16 Mithril and 8 Adamantium (of which the first 4 went to the crafting bench and bucket). I have scoured some promising lava beds in the Underworld with little luck.
TNT mining at the bottom of the Underworld remains the most lucrative area to find ores (that is where I found all the Adamantium and about half of the Mithril) but it appears even that has been dialed back a lot since the previous versions, or I have been really unlucky. I have probably set off about 250 - 300 TNT down there so it is kind of tedious.
As a result I am instead running around lighting up the Underworld as I used to at least come across Mithril on the surface there (I don't think I have spotted Adamantium on the surface before) but despite lighting up a lot of the area I only finding Iron ore and the lesser metals.
One side effect of that is that I am getting a lot of goodies from the Underworld and was getting frustrated by the grainy look of all the items in my inventory while using my nice Hi Res Texture Pack. So I finally decided to bite the bullet and create those textures ( I decided that Ancient metal is like tarnished Iron so it is a darker grey).
The Hi Res Texture Pack can be downloaded here. Note that you do not have to install drop box to be able to download the file.
Changes Made:
Changed look of final potato stage so that it could be more easily seen. Original one blended in with the soil too much.
Added Silver plate armor as I had missed that for some reason. (Not that anyone will make silver armor!).
Adjusted the damaged look of an Iron Anvil as it was too subtle and you would not realize that it was near to breaking.
Added all items for Ancient Metals including Models for Horse Armor and for wearing Chain or plate Armor.
Hope I am not wasting my time! Is anyone using my texture pack!?! How many people are still playing MITE?
Wish I had a white horse to display the Horse Armor on. A Black horse is about the worse colour to demo it on.
There's a texture pack!??!? Of course I'll install it, thanks Pure! And thanks for all the answers...though...what's an underworld? lol... I've been gone since R90 ;).
FYI--I'm on revision 195 =/. Don't think I'm starting over, the beginning of this game is so tedious still =/. PLus I'm playing on a server which would also have to be upgraded and everyone playing would have to start over. Sounds like 196 isn't backwards compatible with 195? No way to upgrade without starting over?
Yeah, I can understand that. The start is tedious. But it will give you an excuse to do another world at least one more time, if you are looking for that excuse! I would think that the world types may not be compatible. 195 and 196 are the same in terms of features and bug fixes but they have different crafting benches.
The recipe list on Knoxx's website is based on the experimental branch of the game. You start with a Flint tool bench. Then when you work to get to the copper age you will need to get 9 more nuggets of copper in order to make the copper tool bench in order that you can make the copper pickaxe. So, that's your first nightmare, digging gravel for another 9 nuggets. Then you will need to make an Iron tool bench to make Iron tools. The biggest nightmare is that you can't make a Mithril tool bench with an Iron tool bench. The next tool bench that you can make with an Iron tool bench is the Ancient Metal Tool bench. With that you can make a Mithril tool bench which will then allow you to make an Adamantium Tool Bench.
Here's the fun part. Ancient Metal is only found in the underworld, accessed by using the portal built at the bottom of the over world. Ancient metal cannot be mined however. You have to find it in the Dungeon Fortresses of the Long dead soldiers. The fortresses are located on the surface of the underworld so it is a matter of running around with torches lighting everything up until you come across one.
My tip for entering the underworld for the first time is to enter carrying lots of blocks of sand and slabs of your choice of material. As soon as you arrive barricade the portal on all sides and then slab the ceiling to keep out spiders. Sand blocks use up less satiation so you won't end up starving to death as you would If you tried to place cobblestone or other hard materials. If you are lucky you won't end up killed in the process. If you do things can be rough as the mobs won't despawn when you are in the over world and will therefore still be there when you return. If you are lucky and get your portal protected you will probably still be surrounded by lots of mobs and again departing for the over world won't make them despawn. So what you do then is immediately start digging down towards the bottom of the underworld. Once you dig down about 14 or so blocks the mobs will despawn on the surface and it will allow you to return and start improving on your portal protection room (upgrading to harder materials, increasing the size, and adding an entrance). Once you have that sorted you can then explore the surface looking for the fortresses.
Ultimately you will want to dig down to the bottom of the underworld so that you can build a portal to the nether. As I mentioned before mining at the bottom of the underworld is very lucrative compared to mining in the over world. Getting to the bottom of the under world also has it's challenges as you will hit shelves of mantle that you cannot dig through. You will then need to dig sideways looking for a hole through the mantle in order to continue your progress down to the bottom of the underworld (it's a long way, much deeper then getting to the bottom of the over world).
Also, as you will see from my 3rd picture you sometimes spawn on a shelf and break through into the main cavern when heading down. There I drop sand down to fill the hole and the start dropping down a sand block at a time building cobble walls as I go. You have to retreat when mobs spawn and start shooting arrows at you. This won't happen to you if your portal happens to be created in the main cavern. It may be created in one of the 1 block deep lakes in the cavern and then that is it's own bunch of joy as it takes longer to light up and you therefore tend to get mauled by mobs in the process.
Tip: Once you have finished exploring the surface of the underworld, and you have your ancient metal, then you will find yourself focusing on mining at the bottom of the underworld. to make the trip easier destroy your portal that you have at the surface of the underworld and relocate it to the bottom of the underworld at the center of your mining operation.
Now this is how TNT mining at the bottom of the Underworld is supposed to look. TNT 1 and 2 exposed a copper vein. TNT 3 and 4 (1st picture) exposed another copper vein, Iron ore, and Mithil. TNT #5 (2nd Picture) exposed a 3rd copper vein and silver ore (I had removed the copper from floor at this point). TNT #6 and #7 were stone only and then TNT 8, 9 and 10 (3rd picture) exposed another copper vein, iron ore, gold and 5 Adamantium.
This haul finally gave me a Mithril Anvil (day 678!) so that I could finally repair the Looting 3, Disarming 3, Sharpness 2 Mithril Sword that I hade made back on Day 382 (the first sword I made in the game oddly enough). It took 6 IRL minutes to create the Mithril Anvil at level 40. I think an Adamantium Anvil is double that time....
A lot are vanilla. Which one's do you not know? I can try to tell you. One I don't know about is Vampiric, and Smite is a bit of guess, probably extra damage, similar to sharpness.
Yeah, but it cures blight...which is brilliant! =D
Iron is too scarce now though...it's rather annoying to not be able to gather enough to even make another anvil before the first one breaks =(.
You need to be TNTing at the bottom of the Underworld. Lots of Iron there. A good lava bed in the overworld will have lots of iron as well.
Do you know a fix to a corrupted world?
No sorry. I haven't had that happen to me before, even though computer will lock up on me due to memory or video card issues
I take back the "not enough iron" comment, it appears to have been redistributed lower than it was before. When I finally went deep enough I found tons of it. I LOVE THAT GEMS HAVE A USE NOW!!!! Eatting gems for exp makes them totally useful, another brilliant idea since I was last here!

pretty much anything not vanilla =/.
But for right now, Fertility helps with harvesting crops I assume? Does it give you more crops per harvest?
Smite appears to be bonus damage vs undead only?
