This is a small mod (or resource pack) I made which replace the other instruments in minecraft note blocks with high quality piano sounds, it covers a range of 6 octaves which is very close to a real piano. You will be able to make all those songs you couldn't make before because of the octaves limit.
Installation:
works with any version of minecraft 1.6+, as long as the resource pack function have no major changes, it will work with all future updates.
Install as a resource pack:
1. simply drag the Piano+.zip to your minecraft resource pack directory ....\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\resourcepacks
2. select Piano+ when you start minecraft in the resource pack option
I can't seem to get this to work I have tried using it with my current texture pack and that didn't work, so I tried it on it's own and still no luck. Is there a key or a certain way to choose the note that the block will play?
Edit: I got it to work by changing my version to 1.6.4 from 1.7.2

Sorry for the long wait, it should now work with 1.7.2 and 1.7.4
Great! HOWEVER, could you make it where the noteblocks had the same sounds in more octaves
This is an annoying problem because minecraft "modulates" a single sound file into multiple higher and lower frequencies, to create a full octave out of that single frequency. Therefore the "modulated" note will sound different from another "modulated" note even though they are supposed to be the same key. http://www.curse.com/texture-packs/minecraft/noteblock-extender-adds-4-octave I think this mod achieve what you're looking for, have a try, but I think the it sounds terrible especially at the low and high ends.
I know this is a really old post on the forums, but I recently discovered how to make it so that this resource pack works for the current version of Minecraft (1.12), and I'd really like to post it here (or elsewhere) or send it to the resource pack creator so that it can be used by the public again. And I'd like to try and get permission before doing so.
Here you go my friend. One of the packs is for versions spanning from 1.9-1.12.2, and the other is compatible with 1.13 and beyond.
Also I have an extra lower and extra higher octave (replacing the "flute" sound and "bell" sound respectively. So if you don't like the way they sound, you can remove those two from the folder to reset the pack to only having the 5 piano notes that the original creator intended for.
The installation instructions are relatively the same - drag and drop the desired .zip folder into your minecraft "resourcepacks" folder.
Also, if anyone posts my download links anywhere for others to use, please also post the link to this page so that the original creator of the resource pack can get his/her due credit.
I just don't understand, can someone explain to me which octave is on which block and which key is a colocal click. I am an amateur in music and I will be very grateful for any advice.[/pre]

Thank you all, and enjoy the music.
Don't know if you will still see this, but even on version 1.6.4, I can't get it to work.
It has the different sound, but still only 2 octaves :\
put wooden planks under the note blocks for the lower octaves and stone blocks for the higher octaves
