Hey Robosphinx, I absolutely love this mod, and it saves me from having to spend hours in the nether mining for barely any quartz.
The one thing missing that I found was that surface quartz does not drop XP. I tried for a short fix-up by editing the file for my own use, and in turn I was going to submit the idea to you for later. Unfortunately, text editors don't work well with already compiled files or something like that(showing me NULS and SOHs). And Eclipse doesnt do well without a src location, and me being completely new to this did not know how to arrange that. In short im saying either add this in as an option or tell the Noob how to do this for his own use. Thanks for a great mod.
is there a config to control how often they spawn?
I want them to spawn WAYYYY less then in the nether for my mod pack and also we are at a 50, 50 stand off on the poll for quartz tools and stuff I voted yes haha
ill get my friend to vote yes since he wants the tools to

Just in case you aren't aware, quartz can be found virtually anywhere in real life.

To what he said, quartz can be found anywhere in real life, but also quartz has the same spawn rate that iron does. It only seems like it spawns frequently because the nether is so open, so I would keep it how it is.
There is a new version behind the download link, v 0.7b0 But the catch is, it's broken. Won't even load up.
For those wanting a working version or to reduce the amount of quartz that spawns, I did find a way to change the spawn rate in the 0.6b version. I won't post the modified mod, but you can PM me if you'd like a copy with a different spawn rate.

I love this! I am not a fan of the Nether nor of monster hunting. If there was a way to mine or create glowstone I would become as big a fan of you as I am Pam's Mods. Your favorite number of diamonds times 10.

You're in luck, we have this. It's called a witch farm. Witches drop glowstone dust. Even without any cave lighting, a modern shifting floor design will yield all the glowstone dust you can use.

YAY! Glowstone! Waiting for an update with nailbiting patience. Also either a forge version or an installation tutorial. The download I tried crashed my planet big time. Take all the time you need to get the job done well. Thanks!

What version of forge and MC are you using? I build my mods on the latest version of forge at the time, not the recommended version. That can make a huge difference. Also, I'd appreciate it if you PM ME to get this cleared before you go sending out modified versions of my code. Even if it is one number changed, it is still copyright infringement. I'm cool with it here, but be careful elsewhere -- you can get into some serious situations doing this.
With regards to it being broken, if it has to do with pillar textures then I am aware of these bugs, but if it is something else, please report it using the ticket system on the curseforge page.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for here, but if it's for glowstone in the overworld, I could probably work something out for you.

Again, not really sure where this came from; all my mods are built on forge, you should just be able to throw it into your mods folder. With regards to crashing your game, give me some version numbers and I can help you out. Be sure you're using the latest version of forge, and everything should work just fine.

Welcome back. It's a shame you didn't get here a few days earlier before I edited away my older post and wrote that offer in.
To be honest, this mod thread was looking pretty abandoned. You hadn't even logged into the forum in like a month. I think rolling out terms like "copyright infringement" is way more than required here. But no worries, I completely understand where you're coming from.
The forge version doesn't seem to have anything to do with this mod being broken. Quarzplus 0.7b0 won't run on any forge version I can find. I'm guessing, but this might be exactly why modders should only develop on recommended forge versions, otherwise stuff in the experimental versions change and your mod ends up broken for everyone.
I did in fact use the 0.7b0 version with the absolute latest recommended version of forge, 1060 for 1.7.2. Your post said nothing of what forge version was required, so I assumed the recommended one. I'd really love to ask, how do you justify asking users to use a version of forge that is beyond the recommended version? Doesn't that negate or at least dilute the value of having recommended versions? And isn't it kind of thumbing one's nose at the forge people, implying they do an inadequate job of selecting recommended versions?
I'm not trying to be in your face here, yours is not the only mod I've seen do this. I just don't get the disparity between what the forge people recommend and what some of the modders recommend.

I don't want get into technicalities here. What I'm saying it I'm not one of those modders who hates it, but they are out there so be careful. With regards to this thread and the mod being dead, school has been stressful for the last month or so getting ready for finals, and I haven't beennable to escape from the chaos until yesterday. I'll be more active after this week is over — finals are here and it'll all be over afterward.
Cheers

I just pushed the latest build of Quartz Plus (0.8) to curse, the file should be approved soon for you guys to go and grab at your convenience! Also, the source is now available on my github for those of you looking to learn from someone else's code. I will warn you though, I myself am still learning too and my code is not a efficient as it could be - proceed with caution
Cheers!
Edit: for those of you who are mod pack maintainers, I made a little something special for you:

Hello,
I think I may be able to help you when it comes to optimizing your code, and getting settled with 1.7 Forge. I will work for free. PM me if you're interested. I did make a slabs and stairs mod in the past, so I can help you make rose and smoky quartz slabs and stairs.
Great mod BTW!

Hey, thanks! I've been working with 1.7 for a while now, part of my code optimisation is just figuring out java - even though I've been working with it for over 2 years now (since about MC 1.2.5) I'm still learning more all the time. I guess it's really something that comes with time and experience. Thanks for your offer though!
Cheers!

I looked at your code on Github...and well you do a couple of things incorrectly. I will PM the list to you.

Really like the mod. I have a few suggestions:
Could you please make the spawn rates of the ores configurable? In real life, quartz is extremely common (in fact, it is the second most abundant mineral in Earth's crust, after feldspar), and can be found almost anywhere.
Second, just so you know, the white quartz is commonly referred to as "Milky Quartz" in real life.
Third, could you tweak the Smokey Quartz to be just a bit duller? I mean, it'd be nice if it looked somewhere between gray and brown.
