In my more vanilla themed mod packs I always end up turning my excess quicksilver into permutatio. Not that much other use for it once you have enough pipes.
Once copper is available however. But I must admit I don't understand *why* copper is assigned permutatio. Because whatever rationale is used would then apply permutatio to a number of other TC or vanilla items. I'm guessing that Azanor has not sufficiently communicated his intentions for the aspects to mod devs using his api to add aspects...
I mean, there is no copper currency in minecraft. So its not associated with trade. Permutatio isn't available on emeralds - the principal trade currency, or on Azanors new gold coins, thaumcrafts 'new' trade currency.

You misunderstood the meaning of the word, permutatio means change, not exchange, meaning something subject to change in time, at the beginning it was even on all the seeds, saplings and eggs but then for balancing issues was reduced, the raeson is on quicksilver (I guess) is that alchemists used to think that that metal was able to be transmuted to gold, hence the change... no idea on copper though

Did I? I mean, the meanings assigned to aspects seem very fluid and my point really was that Azanor has not done a good job of documenting his intentions clearly. So api implementers are adding their own liberal interpretations.
I can't recall the full history of what permutatio has been extracted from and used in the crafting of, but historically is has been associated correctly or incorrectly with exchange.
Given that that seems to have fallen away, I don't understand the lingering association with copper at all: its not a particularly transformative metal.
Hey, does anyone know if there is something that can cause Thaumic Slimes to spawn out of control?
I currently have something like 91 of them hopping around my general spawn area right now. I'm in a tainted biome - do thaumic slimes spawn in a slime chunk?

Bear in mind that while it's not the only metal to corrode, it is perhaps the most dramatic of the "normal, worldly" metals in its corrosion, going from its orangy colour to a bright green, and as far as I'm aware it still retains its strength and integrity since plenty of roofs have green copper on them (which is unlike iron which degrades and crumbles). Maybe that's why.

Tainted biomes have at least two ways to spawn thaumic slimes: Non-undead mobs (not sure about othermod mobs) that don't have a tainted form turn into them, and rotting trees end up as lots of flux goo, which also spawns them.

I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.

Understood - but they should despawn after a while, correct?
Droppers. You can trade one redstone and some cobble for one point of permutatio by making those. I think something used to make trades should have at least one point of it.
There is that. And while redstone mostly has to be mined, it's easily gotten in insane amounts while diamond-hunting. I could see emeralds getting a point of Permutatio.
On the flipside, IIRC emeralds already offer more Lucrum than gold ingots... but Lucrum needs some rebalancing anyway, thanks to mob champions and their treasure sacks.

Eventually, yes. How long have they been hanging around in spawn chunks? Also, if the trees are still rotting, that can produce more over time. Greatwoods especially take a while to go completely.

Copper is used in a few common alloys to change two metals into another.

I would've argued this point as well, except when double checking the wiki, it listed it as exchange.
Which I think maybe it needs a new symbol if that's the intended meaning. Hell, the presence of it on quicksilver is itself a bit confusing in that case, as I don't see much exchange happening with it. Makes more sense as a changing thing, as a metal, and a liquid.

Well, I'm in a Tainted Biome, so the entire area is decomposing and there are lots of spots of flux goo. The weirdest part is that most of the slimes are actually underground, instead of on the surface like I would expect (with all the flux pools the spawn them).
I know this was a pretty big issue in previous versions of TC, but I was under the impression that Azanor was putting a hard cap on Thaumic Slime spawning in 4.X - Guess not?

On the research table, permutatio's desciption is "Exchange, Barter".

You want a farm, you grab a hoe. You want a boat, you grab some wood. You want a fireplace, you grab A FLAMING HELL-BOULDER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MINECRAFTERS ROLL!!!
On the research table, permutatio's desciption is "Exchange, Barter".
I might have phrased it a little wrong my main point is that exchange should not be associated with currency like the original quote was saying, even "barter" should not be interpreted in it's financial meaning but a more alchemical that's why I said is was more like change than actual exchange because the word was treated more like currency as meaning, the problem is that latin word might be translated straight but it might not keep the same shade of meaning.
So while it's true that permutatio translates in exchange the meaning of the word is more on the physical side like change of matter caused from a phenomenon more than it's economical meaning that was associated with currency by Farproc that was wondering why it wasn't present on emerald and gold.
That said, I do too pointed out how the balancing on aspects was not that awesome and needed a rework several times
I'm looking for thaumcraft 4 but I can't find it. The version I'm using has really hard research. I have to connect corresponding aspects to fill the whole chart. It says version 4.2.3.5 and the tutorial I am watching says Thaumcraft 4. Can anyone help? Also the FTB wiki page is for thaumcraft 4. Still research is a pain. I went around with my Thaumometer and found more Aspects but that does not help research

Maximo_Artorio, LordEric: "permutatio" is a pain to translate from Latin to English because there's no direct replacement. Complete change, exchange, swapping, replacement, alteration, all those are "permutatio". The idea is, that you had X being replaced with Y, or changed completely to Y. Kinda like the wand of equal trade.
I think that, besides balance, copper has permutatio because it's a metal used to exchange signals IRL.
I know but it sounds like they may be cut temporarily. So I wonder about how that works? I'm a bit confused about it all.
I have golems doing everything, they are my automated system.
But hey, I'll wait and see what the update actually is before worrying about it.
I just posted the picture in a whimsical moment
Judging from how much is being rewritten, recoded, moved, changed, etc, I can only imagine directly upgraded from TC4 to 5 will be ill advised.

Copper is used in a few common alloys to change two metals into another.
Copper + Zinc = Brass
Copper + Tin = Bronze
Copper + Aluminum = Aluminum Brass
Etc...
LOL i had a lower version and was looking up how to use Thaumcraft 4. I wondered why some aspects weren't fusing
Terra + Terra = Saxus
