Thaumcraft is the first and only mod I can think of that makes me feel like its actually an expansion of vanilla minecraft. if it was endorsed by mojang and they began developing it as a full blown expansion or update, I would pay for it. It's the route I wish they took when they brought out cauldrons and "magic" potions.
Modded Minecraft has lost something truly remarkable. I Loved Thaumcraft 4 ( I havent played with 1.8 versions much as the modding scene seemed to skip 1.8-1.9) and wished I could continue to see it evolving and become even greater, but I can understand the need to look after oneself and family when required even if it means you lose time to work on something you love.
Hopefully you and Thaumcraft will be back one day - until then I wait.
The fact that you are exaggerating the money he made from Thaumcraft more than two-fold (both numbers), only manages to illustrate your unpure intentions. My guess is that you are jealous, because this guy managed to make some money off of a really good product that he has been investing a lot of time and effort in and that is also more or less a hobby project of his.
If this was really a money-grab, if he hadn't been developing anything at all, his "premium Patreons" would have raised a red flag; if his previous mod releases (TC 5 and earlier) hadn't been this good, he wouldn't have had as many Patreons pledging him in the first place.
Not to mention his top supporters have... ahh... beta access
Jason is delusional and, in my opinion, deserves no more attention than we've already given him. Don't feed the troll
back on topic, I'd just like to say that, if I wasn't trying to avoid adding more games to the already full "list of games I play",, I would totally buy "Thaumcraft: the game" if you made it, Az. That said, I strongly prefer it as a mod because of all the interactions with OTHER mods that you can have... though admittedly those can be good or bad. Mods don't always play well with each other, you know? I'm sure that's easier to handle than making a standalone game with mod support though.

I would second this honestly.if im thinking this through properly a standalone would split the community, not to mention buildinng up an engine and a world to then put your contraptions in is time consuming, and that isnt always the most healthy thing for the community around it, im sure more of a few of us remember a mod that started to play with red wires on walls, and its own power system. that, if i recall correctly, didnt do to well after being converted to a standalone

You mean RedPower? Didn't know that mod went standalone.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
The problem is, Thaumcraft already has it's own addon community. Turning into a standalone game wouldn't guarentee that the addons would follow, and I know a lot of people like how well TC integrates with other mods and addons.

Praise be Ro-naza, greatest among the thaumaturges!
Az Can you just tell us if you are going to let other people make the mod so we can use it in 1.10. Although I would love you making the mod, if you can't or have other more important thing like family or studys then I understand but still want to play the mod. It up to you but I bet there are loads of people that know what there doing and would want to help you.
You mean RedPower? Didn't know that mod went standalone.
yeah, i followed it for awhile but then stopped once it went standalone, because i was looking for mc mods, not more games, and that happened with a lot of other people with it as well, iirc the game is still in dev but i havent followed it for the last few years

So what are the chances of others being able to play the patreon exclusive beta versions now that development has stopped? I would love to look at what might have been.

As someone else pointed out that version is a beta. Meaning buggy and not finished.
I'm sad that Azanor is leaving the community for now. I really love TC always have. Been using it since it first came out and I'm talking the first TC. Always has been a core mod for me. Having gone over some of the other posts would it be possible to let a team/individual continue updating TC to newer versions, but give addons more free reign? Currently addons are limited by the api correct? What if the api was broadened to give modders more access to Thaumcraft to come up with more stuff? Probably silly and wanted to put that out there as an idea. Thank you Azanor for such a great mod.
The iron sword matches the katana the best in terms of colour and the enchanted glow is more noticable.
Bruh.
Tained Magic has thaumium katanas, voidmetal katanas and some other-weird-material katana too. They also have their own enchanting system that gives them unique abilities.
Did i mention they have sheaths too? Modelled even when not wielding it?

Bruh, to see that in 1.10.2 with the best immersive mods? Would be epic.

(Note: I'm doing this from my phone. Sorry if I accidentally made a giant quote-box-thing. ): )
I'll get pics later, but in TC4 in 1.7.10, I hooked up all essentia devices together using Technomancy's essentia coils. I had a main hub for all my essentia, and a way to get rid of excess essentia without using phials, just with a lever.
I had an advanced alchemical furnace with essentia reservoirs on all outputs. An essentia coil would pull out each aspect to it's respective jar, without piping.
Essentia coils work on basically anything that needs essentia. It just stinks that they're so expensive.
I've made a new world and new collection of mods, and in this world, I'm going to try using Thaumic Energistics, because although Technomancy coils are about 9001% more efficient that piping, it takes FOREVER to set up.
Not really THAT impressive, but I'll get pics later.

Not really that impressive? Sir, you have REVOLUTIONIZED the essentia setup. I'd love to see pics, mainly so I could implement essentia coils in my own setup, that would allow me to have more efficiency.
(Also, there's no accidental quote box, so it's good)

Sorry guys, I have to put TC on hold. Check the OP for my reasons.
As others have said before, I completely understand your decision and support it, but please consider open sourcing this. It is and will always be, by far and without question, the greatest modification for this game, and it would be an incredible shame and a waste to let it die. I know you said you may come back to it, but plans change, and open sourcing it would keep you from worrying about having to come back at some point. And of course, if you did want to come back, I know the community would gladly welcome you and hand the reins back over.
Regardless of your decision, thanks for the fun, man. You and your works are truly amazing and inspiring, and have completely changed my view of game/story design for the better.

Yes, I'm one of these guys: If I say something that offends you or just seems wrong, please let me know. I was almost certainly just making a joke or a pun, or something really dumb like that, and didn't mean anything by it. Don't take anything I say too seriously!
