If you want to complain about balance, I suspect that that is where you want your efforts directed.
Once again it isn't about pure balance of mods. It's about flexibility and options. I was honestly done discussing it but didn't want to be rude and not answer your question. A BC quarry with better quarries would also rip up a ton of them with very little effort. That is just the big items in the gambit of mods that I play, let alone the hundreds of mods I do not play.

An interesting idea was presented to me. It is as follows:
With the option enabled, the purple crystals would not be able to be silk touched. However, upon break, in addition to the shards, it will drop the total experience that would be accumulated over a reasonable length of time. This is likely to be on par with 15-20 levels. This keeps them useful as an experience source, but nullifies the ability to exploit it.
I pose this option to the rest of the GeoStrata users on this forum: Would you like to see this option implemented, and are you worried about overbearing UHC-minded server admins abusing it to try to crush any ability to get large amounts of experience?
Given the relative rarity of crystals, and the fact that only 1/16 are purple, the amount of work required for that is appropriate.
Rarity? I just went over an ATG test world, and those crystals are common. Not only are they all over the caves, they are in large quantities in the gravel beaches, on open, relatively flat ground.
Does ATG break some of your assumptions? In particular, stone (a little) and gravel (a lot) can be found on the surface of the world in relatively easy to explore areas.

To solve the "XP farm" concern: How about the XP that you can gain can only get the benefit of one crystal, no matter how many are in range. In other words, if you are in range, then you get a fixed, slow rate, not dependent on how many are in range.
Additionally, how about adding a new mob. Only spawns when you are bathing in these crystals; spawns from the crystal itself, independent of light level. It can be a simple, two-three HP mob that only does half a heart (ignoring armor).
Call it the aafka. (anti-away from keyboard attacker).
Also, I added a new machine to ExpandedRedstone. Can you guess what it does?
My guess: It's similar to a comparator, but also indicates if the hopper is active. In other words, while a comparator has a signal if the hopper has stuff in it, this has a signal if the hopper is trying to send stuff -- both has inventory and not disabled by redstone.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
An adfly error removed the links and they've been reposted, it has been said multiple time in the last few pages.. seriously guys, read the posts before complaining.
Instead of adding a mob, I think it would be better if the crystals did aoe damage themselves, and stacking them in a single place increased this damage.
It would also work as a defense mechanism, but would make it impossible to use it as an automated xp farm (at least, not a big one).
I also have a good explanation for this: the crystals drains the life force of self-concious beings around them (players), and converts it to experience.
As you stand in the light of a crystal, you gain its benefit, and also get a specific debuff with a 30s timer on it. After a little while another debuff is added with a 45s timer (only counts down when out of range of the specific crystal that added it), and finally a third one hits after a specific amount of time more, which kills you (500 damage that ignores armor if all three debuffs exist). Have this option disableable in the configs.
Neither Dragon API or RotaryCraft downloads are working on MediaFire as of right this moment. FYI.
Edit: Nevermind, seems this is a longer term issue - newest version is 10h, but the files posted are for 10b. Found the download links a few pages back. Thanks.
I have tried a couple times now different ways of doing this such ax placing a block in the water then placing the pump on top of the block then breaking it but as soon as I do that and the water comes in contact with the pump minecraft goes non responding and has to be forcibly closed. The same happens if I try placing a block to the side and placing the pump off that block as soon as I placed it above the water minecraft stops responding
Post an image of the body of water you are putting the pump on.
We have the same issue and there is not realy more information to give. The only thing I can add is that the log file reaches 1GB with this spam and stackoverflow.
hey,
i am curious how to invert gearboxes (less torque -> more speed)
i've seen that there is a larger gear on the output side, but i couldn't figure out how to change it yet.
sorry if there is a obvious way to do that, but i'm new to the mod.

Yes, that is a custom world type. A vanilla world - for which GeoStrata is designed and balanced - has minimal exposed stone and gravel at the surface. Crystals do occasionally occur, but they are rare.

These ideas have two fundamental problems.
One, I want the crystals to be usable as an XP farm, but it needs to be an appropriate amount of work to do so.
Two, they violate one of the tenets of GeoStrata design - nothing in the overworld can harm the player.
Additionally, noone has commented on the idea proposed on the last page:

I have also since given the bedrock pickaxe an exemption, since it is both consistent with its other behavior - it can silk-touch DartCraft, ThaumCraft, MagicCrops, and similar ores - and to give some way to collect them into a farm.
well it is. but i can't download latest one it gaves me this error when i click at link

Additionally, noone has commented on the idea proposed on the last page:
Even in a Biomes O' Plenty world with gravel beaches and exposed stone in many of the biomes, singling out a particular color of crystal is nigh impossible. This proposed change seems most reasonable if one is to be made, though honestly if you're dedicated enough to get so far that you can build an XP farm with them, you sort of deserve to win the game anyway. I can build a quarry and mine up enough garbage to build a power system, UU Matter & Quantum/GraviSuit/MPS and be pretty much invincible anyway, at comparatively little effort and removing much of the element of chance that would be involved in obtaining so many purple crystals. I certainly would request this change being a config option as I like how the crystals are now.

It would be an option, yes. I do not approve of this change, either.

No. I can accept IC2 uranium, but IC2 does not accept pitchblende.
That option already exists.
Also, I added a new machine to ExpandedRedstone. Can you guess what it does?

Without any information, I cannot fix it.
Lead is from ThermalExpansion and IC2. The other three are from ReactorCraft.

That is a bug in ReactorCraft.
I can confirm this.
