Shadow Mobs typically spawn in dark areas underground below world height 64, in cold areas you are possibly higher up in the mountains and thus underground but above Y64 which is why there might be as many. You need to go deep!
Actually I think I know what was happening. There's a mod called Quark which changes how the world is generated and how blocks/ores are distributed. There were, like, NO mobs underground. Except for bats, I think. Anyway, I restarted the world without that mod and your mobs showed back up underground. So maybe there's something conflicting there.
So im trying to find where to disable the mobs from spawning out the nether portal an i had been editing the portals.json file, but being as it resets itself after starting client/server im presuming obv thats the wrong spot, so im wondering what file to edit in order to disable mobs from spawning out of nether portal
You've awoken on this barren wasteland planet, a civilization once ruled and proud, but where is everyone? All the buildings are empty, nothing remains, all that can be seen is mass hordes in all directions of zombies, skeletons and other creatures never before seen. Inside isn't safe, Outside isn't safe, what will u do to survive this planet and escape? Can you survive the 1st day without death claiming you?
There is no natural light, when night time comes it's pitch black, no moon light and all that is heard is the scratching and moaning of whats around lurking to destroy you. Mining reveals unbeknownst horrors from the rocks just waiting to come out and devour your soul. Puddles of liquid blue or purple are not water, but also intent on harming you.

I dont see anywhere in the main lycanite- config files that disables mobs form spawning form nether portal and by memory im sure somewhere there was/used to be a config file that disabled all from spawning form the nether portal.

Hi Lycanite, I have a mob idea (perhaps for shadow mobs)! Basically it is a creature inspired by the Mind Flayers fron D&D, and in game it would be found in really deep layers (sorta like underdark). It doesnt have to be an intelligent creature like source material, and instead could be more like a feral animal. In game, the Mind Flayer could use paralyze spells and drain exp from the player (along with some health), and on death the EXP will be returned back to the player. They may also drop enchanted books and some rare potion ingredients.
Edit: To add to this idea further, this mob can also mind control pets or minions temporarily to attack you (perhaps at reduced damage). Mind Flayers can have a very weak physical attack, but excels with psionic abilities.
Sounds like someone's been watching Stranger Things!
While this would fit in with the Shadow Mobs it would also make for an interesting mob for the future planned Cosmic Mobs as well perhaps, but this will be a long while off. Currently my focus is on the new Equipment System.

Ah I see, interesting. I'll have to take a look and see what it could be.

You also need to set "loadDefaults" to false to prevent it from resetting to default. This is added so that I can update the default spawner settings without people having to delete their jsons but also making sure that people who have custom jsons don't lose their settings either.

For older versions of the mod this is correct, but the latest 1.12.2 updates have a new spawner system that uses json files now.
Hey I have a question about mob events: In the config file "lycanitesmobs-mobevents.cfg" I changed the Random Mob Events Enabled to True. Which turned them on, of course.
But I changed my laptop's clock date to December 23rd, 2017. Mobs dropped winter gifts just fine. However, the mob event was not Christmas-themed, but just a regular one. So my question is: do I need to change a different config file in order to have them triggered by the computer's date?

Nope the events should just start working, I'll have to take a look into this as it may be a bug. Is this with the latest 1.12.2 build?
Shades are mounts where you can equip a saddle to ride them, they also have a mount ability (see controls menu) that has them roar to fear away other mobs (shadow mobs and demons are immune to fear however). Currently mounts don't have follow or defence AI, I may be changing this in the future though. For now you can treat them like Horses and use leashes. I also recommend looking into Soulstones where you can summon and unsummon your mount as you need it.
Dear Lycanite, I was wrong about Quark being responsible for preventing mobs from spawning underground. It is Optifine that is the culprit. Just thought I should clear that up.
Interesting development when playing the latest version of Lycanites Mobs tonight. I headed into the Nether, when suddenly a mob event started playing! I had my internal clock set to December 17th, so it was Satan Claws. But I had already been attacked by Geonaches when mining ore, so I just thought "okay, I guess that these things happen in the Nether now".
But then when I left the Nether, the event started again! And soon after the chat said that it was no longer spawning mobs. Cool. Fun times.
Except later when I go back into the Nether, there are Satan Claws EVERYWHERE! As I'm walking along, I see the framerate start to stutter. It's like they're still spawning all around me. And then I realize that the chat never said that it stopped spawning them in the Nether, only the overworld! So I warped back to the portal to get back to the overworld and am inundated with more Satan Claws than I can count!
So anyways, I figure that wasn't supposed to be happening, so I'd better report it.

LOL! Yeah I need to look into cross dimension event stuff more, it's tricky because if no players are in a dimension, the time still goes by so the event queues up and waits. Event mobs will also linger for 10 minutes (configurable) and will then despawn but if they're not in a loaded chunk then their countdown is suspended, maybe I should change it to them checking world time instead or something.
So i used to have no trouble with customizing the spawn settings (like for instance just banishing all inferno mobs to the nether. 5 mobs popping out of nowhere in lava pools in the day is a bit... impossible to deal with?)
I have set their dimension list to 0, which in theory should blacklist them from spawning in the overworld. didn't work.
i tried turning white list ON, and setting it to 0, again spawns in overworld anyway.
i turned white list on, set it to -1 (the nether). in theory this should make it so they ONLY spawn in the Nether. I even changed the biome type to NETHER. still no good.
it's almost as if it's completely ignoring any changes in the config file.
basically the goal is this. to either put the large mobs in lava deep underground (except afrits) and stick Afrits in the Nether.
OR to stick all of them in the Nether except the lava fishies. Maybe stick those deep underground.
I used to be able to do this, but a lot of the settings or notes on the settings in the config feel a bit "backwards" in how they are phrased.

There is a brand new spawning system controlled by JSON files in config/lycanitesmobs/spawners
While it's initially more complex, it offers absolute control where you can even create your own spawners entirely.
Here's a page with all the documentation on spawners as well as the new json mob events (custom mob events are also possible now): http://lycanitesmobs.com/spawners
The config files are still used but some of the values are now redundant, I recommend generating a fresh config if possible. While I know it can be annoying to reset and change how configs work, it was necessary in order to give people more control over things and is better for the future. You can also use "/lm spawners reload" to reload all spawner json settings while in game as well as "/lm spawners creative" to have all spawners respond to creative players as well for easier testing.
For the lava mobs you can try whitelist ON with -1 for Nether only, then set Afrits to blacklist with GROUP removed from its dimension list to allow it to spawn in the overworld and the nether.
Alternatively you can modify the lava.json spawner to be nether only (be sure to set "loadDefault" to false otherwise it will reset every time its loaded). See the nether json spawners for an example of how to add a dimension blacklist world condition. You can then go a step further and make a second custom lava spawner that will spawn only Afrits in the lava in the overworld, see the fire.json spawner for an example of how to add mobs to a spawner json instead of using the spawn types in the config.

Is there going to be information on the dragons added to the site soon? I didn't even know they existed until it was almost too late c:
