I would love to see this mod be part of vanilla minecraft . It fits perfect and it is really useful. I like a lot this mod because its simple. The recipe is good as it is now, but could cost an extra iron ingot on top of the plank closing the ¨duct¨ shape. Excellente bravo!
It sounded like a practical request so I just added it to version 1.1. I'll put the download links on the main post shortly.
The code is fairly simplistic compared to something like a BuildCraft pipe, I'd hoped there wouldn't be much of a performance hit. So I'm curious what you mean by "a lot" of them, which might help me in possibly optimizing the code. If the cooldown change doesn't help, then it might be in the rendering, particularly if you have lots of block updates happening nearby.
GREAT!
What I mean by "a lot" is having heaps of hopper ducts placed around everywhere, moving items around.
This is a very awesome Mod! Keep up the amazing work, can't wait to see what you add next! Also I made this awesome Spotlight for you, and feel free to use it in the OP! Enjoy!

Awesome, thanks for the spotlight. I'll add it to the post right now, in fact!
Pretty nice-looking shader you have going on, too.
Very nice, makes hoppers much more useful especially early game which I used to avoid because I'd rather manually pick something up than have a chest buried in the floor next to my furnace. My only suggestion would be to allow duct direction to be adjusted by using an empty hand or a buildcraft wrench rather than a stick.
Have you considered adding Forge Multipart support? Besides being a vanilla-style pipe replacement, support for FM microblock covers would be really cool.

I'd have to play around with it again since it's been a while since I looked at that part of the code, but I think there was a reason why I went with a stick instead of an empty hand. I've learned more about handling player interactions since writing this mod, though, so I'll take a look.

It might not be a huge job to make the mod compatible. The downside is that it would then have a mod dependency, whether people wanted that functionality or not. It'd certainly be a lot easier with this mod than when I was looking into it for my Redstone Paste mod, though. And I might could just offer two different versions. So this could be a good reason to finally jump in and learn the multipart interface when I get some spare time.

i know many people have said it already, but:
This is the exact thing i wanted since there's hopper(3x3 redstone tower is just ugly), thank you so much!!!!!
edit: really hope more people would make actual useful mod like you instead of just adding more ores, tools, weapons that are pretty much the same as everyone elses doing.

I love this mod couldn't live without it xD may i suggest some sort of filter system.
It's something that comes to mind every so often, and I've had some ideas recently for how I might want to do it. I've learned a lot from working on Redstone Paste in the meantime, though, so I'm sure I can apply some of that knowledge to Hopper Ducts now as well. I've just been focusing a lot on the former since it doesn't feel complete yet, and has been a game of whac-a-mole for bugs due to the complexity. It'll be nice to get back to a more straight-forward mod!
I just downloaded this and I love it. I have a suggestion which has probably already been used, but It would be nice to see some sort of filter or painted versions of the ducts. Other than that, this mod is awesome.

If Minecraft were real, you'd be a zombie right now.
I was inspired today. I spent the last several I-don't-even-know-how-many-now hours adding Grated Hoppers. I wanted something that felt vanilla, but was functional, and was somewhat unique.
They only allow specified items into them from above. They only allow those same items out. They prevent those items from being pulled out from below (by another hopper/grated hopper). However, you can still insert any item into them from the sides or bottom (with ducts or either kind of hopper), and those non-matching items can in fact be pulled out by a hopper below.
This is only in v1.2 for Minecraft 1.6.x at the moment. If everything works out okay, I'll do the port to 1.5.2.

I just found your mods today, this and the redstone paste mod, and I am IN LOVE. It's so incredibly simple in its function and adds so little in the way of items or complicated crafting trees, but then they provide such massive use and possibilities. It's exactly the kind of modding that I love to see. These will both be a must for me for.... well, as long as you feel the desire to update them.
Simply genius.

I've seen people suggest gold hoppers and all kinds of stuff, but a grate on top makes way more sense. And it's not a pipe, which is how practically every other mod sorts items. Great thinking!
This is an awesome mod. I love the fact that it feels like it could be in vanilla MC. It's not over-complicated like most pipe/sorting systems, and it uses an already existing item/block.
It could be a bit easier to use though. It's not hard at all to figure out, but I mean as far as positioning and stuff. Just seems a bit annoying having to make sure every duct is facing the right direction. OR at the very least, figure out a way to put some arrows on it to make which way it's facing easier to understand.
This would be awesome for vanilla MC though. Nice job. I hope you update when the new forge versions come out, I could see myself using this quite a bit.

You're absolutely right. So right, in fact, that I just updated the mod with auto-orienting ducts. I spent so much time writing code to detect and determine orientation of neighbor blocks for Redstone Paste that it was pretty simple to implement what I've learned here. I also prevented the GUI from opening when right-clicking ducts with other ducts or hoppers in hand, changed the texture on the output end of them to stand out a bit more, and fixed a rendering bug (ducts weren't visually connecting to grated hoppers).

This particular mod doesn't do anything too crazy code-wise, so I'm hoping it won't be a big deal to port it to 1.7 whenever they get MCP and Forge going. It's definitely the one I'll be starting with, so that I'll know what I'm getting into for porting any others.
EDIT: I should clarify that the auto-orienting is only when placing ducts, they can still be manually rotated and everything like before. And the texture is subject to change, I still don't know how I feel about it yet.

It does indeed. I'll update the main post to avoid confusion.
