How about a Wither gas? It wouldn't be common at all, and would only appear when the Wither creates its explosion when it spawns. The gas would, of course, give Wither poison, but also blindness for about 5 seconds.
I've gotta say I love this mod! I also have a few suggestions that might be nice:
Thick Gas - Makes the bubble bar come up like if you were underwater. Not as bad as steam, since steam causes damage immediately.
Toxic Gas - Puts on the poison effect for 15 seconds. The timer would not deplete unless you left the gas cloud.
Void Oxygen - Not a gas, but would still make the air meter drop half as slow as it would if you were underwater. It will happen near bedrock level due to the low oxygen.
On a separate note, how about making it so that when a layer of gas meets another layer right below it, they fill up a whole block's space. This would fix the bug regarding gas clouds splitting into slices.
This mod is great! Sometimes scary, but also a lot more realistic & fun than regular minecraft. My favourite feature was smoke from fire, that was VERY COOL. We did have issues using a bottle on gas, the game kept closing on us (both in single player & in LAN) but other than that, it was a lot of fun.
Can't wait to see what new features are added in the future. I would love to see some gases giving you different effects, maybe slows or poison etc. Maybe some could also not give blindness, or there could even be an invisible gas like in real life? Like the miners who used birds in the mines to detect whether they had hit gas or not =D
Thanks for making such a cool mod. I honestly think this is one of the most interesting mods I have played, with a lot of room for expansion. It is also a mod that adds to vanilla without ruining it, so great job =D
If you have twitter, I would love to follow you to keep up to date with progress. Tweet me @xert77 saying you're the gas guy.
Thanks!
Danny
Thank you very much for the review. I was missing a review of the newest version, and this one was just perfect. Capturing a gas in a bottle is indeed problematic with the current version, and I apologize for that. I'm not going to release a hotfix for this because this feature will no longer be avaliable in the next update.
Some effects might be added to the gases. I intended to add a gradual slowness effect, but doing so proved to be ridiculously hard. It might happen in the future.
The Mechanical Update is the official name of the upcoming update for Glenn's Gases. With this update, the player will be able to build a pipe system to transport and harvest gas. Why harvest gas? Some gases might be highly efficient fuel sources, while some may have other uses.
Here's an image of how the piping might look like:

I know that it's rude to just barge in and demand to be given things, but would it be possible to get a version of this mod for Minecraft 1.6.2 which does work with Forge 871?
I know that "the version it works with is 804 because it's the recommended version" and that the newest Minecraft version is 1.6.4. However, yesterday they did change the recommended version of Forge to 871 (which might confuse some people trying to install this mod) and I reckon making this mod compatible with Forge 871 isn't that big of a side-step when trying to make it work with Minecraft 1.6.4 as the recommended version of Forge for that one is not that much different from the aforementioned.
Therefore, if it is not something that you decided you will never do regardless of anything, I ask of you to consider it.
I'm working a mini-release at this very moment that I hope will work with the latest version for 1.6.4 and 1.6.2. The mini-release mostly be the same as the last release, but will contain some unavaliable new stuff unless you use something like NEI. The stuff is not completely stable or release-ready. It will also have a fixed gas catching bug.
Introducing: Pumps! Pumps will be the only propelling force in gas piping. They are completely cost-free (for now) and are a must for moving gas through large pipe networks. Much like redstone, gas cannot be pushed in distances longer than 15 blocks, but you can use the pump as a repeater. If you attempt to pump through a clogged pipe system, or fail to measure your distances, bad things might happen! If there are any leaks in the system, the entire system might malfunction because I am a cruel, cruel man.
Pumps will take input from any source blocks around it and push it in the direction of the arrows.
I imagine a gas which will, on contact with the player, give the player a debuff. This debuff won't affect the player at all times, but it will disallow the player to use portals for as long as the debuff lasts. This could potentially make the first trip to the Nether very interesting.
It's more wide-reaching, due to the mod it's intended to be used with, but hey, might be worth chatting about.

Any idea how ram intesive this mod is? I consider using it on my server, but I fear it might lagg the server.
(It's 2GB dedicated SSD)
The mod should not be very RAM-intensive. Note that there is no multiplayer version... yet! It's set to arrive in the update after The Mechanical Update.

That's good to hear, as I'm currently using Forge 9.11.0.886, and I'm unable to use this mod. Im really looking forward to being able to play around with this.
That is unfortunately a scrapped idea as it was replaced with the other nether gases.
As long as you have fun making things.

I hope I will be able to release the fix tomorrow. It will take some time to make GasesCore work with 1.6.4, so a 1.6.2 version will be avaliable much more quickly.
Edit: There is now a download for the fixed 1.3.3 version in the OP.
Glenn's Gases 1.3.3 is now out for Minecraft 1.6.4, and it is compatible with the newest versions of Minecraft Forge!
This mini-release has stalled the progress on the mechanical update a bit, but starting tomorrow I will have plenty of time. I will also work on moving the entire mod to its own webpage so that I can present the mod the way I hope to.
What about gas compressors? You pump the gas in, compress it and use it from a container. That way I can troll my friends by smoking their houses.
No, but seriously: this mod needs a bucketlike storage system.

Also, I've said it before, chimneys. Kinda gives the bricks a FUNCTION.
Gases will have their uses, just wait. There is a new feature I would like to present from the upcoming update, which is the gas tank, which will compress gas and store it (just like you suggested).
A gas tank will only be able to contain a max amount depending on the contained gas's density, and it can only contain one gas type at a time. It will accept input from any side, and its contents can be extracted with a gas pump.
Because the gas tank can only contain gas of one type, systems can easily clog if some gas goes somewhere it shouldn't. I will explain the solution to this in the next progress update post.
On another note, Glenn's Gases 1.3.4 is now out! It's another mini-release, but it fixes an important issue and adds two features.
Flammable gas now burns like it should.
Gas rendering has been slightly altered to look better.
Glenn's Gases will now automatically check for updates and notify the player if an update exists. This can be disabled in the configuration files.

I will supply you with news as things are added.

Hehe.
Might want to poke Veovis. He made a potion that does that.

I know nothing of this reading you're talking about, could you explain in-depth?
Jokes aside, thanks. Should've read more carefully.

No, but seriously: this mod needs a bucketlike storage system.
Also, you could use the gases for other machines:
Electric gas: charge your creepers MUHAHAHA!
Corrosive gas: quarry
Explosive gas: cannons
Flammable gas: superfurnace
Steam: engines
Smoke: smoking meat
Void gas: teleportation devices
Also, I've said it before, chimneys. Kinda gives the bricks a FUNCTION.
