This is very unusual, because in the development environment wall jumping works absolutely as intended, but in the actual game it's very glitchy and barely works at all. The code shouldn't be changing at all when I compile the mod, so it's quite unusual. For now, if version 1.2.2a doesn't work properly for you, I have no way to fix it, since I can only change code within the development environment. Either way, I'll keep working towards a solution.
Yeah, I'm having the same issue. I started using the mod and it worked fine. But it stopped working after I started messing around with the mod settings. I have a feeling that me messing with the settings had something to do with the issues that I am having.
This is a great mod and I'd love to be able to use it regularly. Keep up the good work and I hope that this gets fixed soon.
I'm, unfortunately, having the same issue as Origami. Worked fine at first, then I toyed with the settings a bit, and now it doesn't work at all. No idea why it doesn't work either - it's weird.
Version 1.2.3 for Minecraft 1.8 is now out! 1.2.3 fixes bugs with wall jumping and the mod not recognising when the player had a block in front of them, making jumping itself very much hit and miss. This has been fixed, and also optimised somewhat. A few other optimisations have also been made.
I'm not sure that this will fix everyone's bugs, but the best way to test this is to release it and see if anyone finds anything new. Thanks for all your support, guys!
Is there way to setup this mod to jump straight up without going back? I'm using smart moving mod and I wanted to use it for faster climbing, something like wall run
Not currently, no. You can change the settings so that you don't spin around, but it won't stop you being sent backwards.
You still gain fall damage the more and more you wall jump in a row, even if you fall a block. This kinda ruins the fun of wall jumping in Survival if you die as soon as you reach the top of where you were going.
Maybe as a replacement for this stacking fall damage the player can loose more hunger and will loose more momentum as he continually wall jumps.
(It would also be great if this were compatible with Smart Moving Mod with joined stamina)
Or if the player breaks his leg or something when he wall jumps of a cliff. Sliding would be an awesome mechanic. Alright I'm gushing now, just excited to see where this mod goes

GEARRRRRRRRRATE MOD THOUGH!!
The whole damage thing is a bug, and it's been there since the start of this mod. I wrote the original code back when I'd just started modding, so it was pretty bad to start with. I've been improving it slowly, but taking damage has persisted (for now).

The fall damage only accumulates if you pause between each jump. Rapid wall-jumps won't cause extra fall damage.

I have never said this mod is for 1.12. If you saw that, you were probably on a mod website which reposts mods. Never download from those sites, always use the forum thread or the creator's website (something the creator of the mod uploaded themselves). This mod is for 1.8 and below currently.
How stable/consistent was the last 1.7.10 release? I need to make sure in case I need to use this alongside a mod that hasn't yet been updated to newer versions.

I'm not sure. The earliest version I have the source code for is 1.2.3 so I have no record. It's simple enough that it's probably stable, and it's all client side so there probably won't be an issue.
Most likely not. Unfortunately the 1.8 version is currently pretty buggy, as (it seems) a result of a bug in Forge.

Well, what settings did you change?

AWESOOOME!
Best mod ever!
Great job! Works perfectly!
If you turn off auto-turn, and jump backwards at the wall, you'll go straight up. Like a confused spider
