Hey, need4poop ... I just took a look at JABBA so that I could test out some features of Routers Reborn on my 1.7.10 test server. (I strongly recommend Routers Reborn, by the way, to anyone using Barrels Mod. Routers and barrels are a match made in heaven. Routers Reborn is a standalone re-implementation of the Factorization router from before Factorization jumped the shark, even down to the Thoroughness upgrade not working properly.)
Anyway, JABBA's not for me ... too complex, like the post-shark-jump Factorization barrels. But I do see that Dr. Mobius implemented the idea that I suggested, long ago in the Factorization thread, of locking barrels by shift-right-clicking them. His implementation works perfectly, exactly as I'd imagined it would. (Except for that he did not implement the feature I thought of, shift-right-clicking a barrel with an item in your hand to key the barrel to that item, probably because he's using shift-right-click to install updates instead.)
Anyway, it would be far better in a large barrel system to be able to just lock barrels out to reserve them, rather than having to find a "stopper" item to put into barrels you don't want filled yet. I saw that you and Dr. Mobius have shared code in the past ... what would it take to talk you into adding the barrel-locking feature? Adding barrel locking would make Barrels Mod, in my opinion, the perfect standalone barrels mod.
hehe, Thoroughness upgrade not working properly is a bug not a future If you got any info on it ill look into it
hehe, Thoroughness upgrade not working properly is a bug not a future If you got any info on it ill look into it
Tom, sure. I was being a smart-alec about faithfully reproducing the bug.
Nevertheless, the details. I set up a test rig with the following simple 1.7.10 setup: Vanilla chest for input, Translocators (from Chickenbones) piping its contents into a router upgraded with Thoroughness and Machine Filter, output machine filter set to barrels, and a 2x3 stack of JABBA barrels next to the router. I then seeded one barrel with a block of stone and started tossing stone into the chest.
Expected — or hoped-for — behavior was for the barrel that already contained one stone to be filled first, then move on to a random next barrel (or better yet, the nearest empty barrel) and fill that, then the next, and so on. What actually happened was that, just as with the Factorization router, the stone was distributed randomly across all available barrels.
Cant seem to get the 1.7.10 version working. Crashes on startup.

I just retried this myself, with Barrels 3.5 - 1.7.10.jar on Cauldron-1.7.10-1.1231.01.206 server, and it loads fine on the server, but crashes on the client. My client-side crash is the same as reported above by Damaging2010.
Ok, I downloaded this mod and have been trying to get it to work. I only play single player mode. I have MC 1.6.4 and I am running a few other mods, most of which I have noticed are compatible with the barrels mod from all of the videos I have seen. I am just curious, I can not get this to work. It shows up on my mod list as I am entering the game but they are no where to be found in my existing world. I have also tried to create a new world and still nothing. I would really like this mod to work because I like storage and this would make it more compact.

Riyhana, I'm assuming you have the correct version (the download link says 3.4.1 for 1.6.4, but the link actually goes to 3.4.2, which is correct). Have you looked in your client logs to make sure the mod is loading correctly? Have you checked to make sure that the block IDs aren't conflicting with anything else?
I am not sure how to check my client logs. And I don't think the block id is conflicting with anything else. I checked the config files and none of them have the 4000 id number. Not sure how to check minecraft itself though. I tried the 4095 but that conflicted, then tried 4094 and didnt get the conflict message but it also didn't show up either. So I changed it back to 4000. Still haven't been able to get it to work. I am playing single player I don't do multiplayer...not sure if that makes a difference.
And yes I grabbed the correct version. Even tried two separate downloads from two separate sites, same outcome.
EDIT: Ok so I figured out it doesn't like the Butterfly Mania Mod. I moved it out of the folder and now the barrels are showing up. I need to find out if it is compatible and just has clashing block IDs or if the mods just will not work together. The Butterfly mod is a large part of some of the worlds. I build the worlds for my nieces and nephews and they have a huge collection of the butterflies. But I really would like to use the barrel one as well. I looked in the butterfly config file but didn't see any block IDs unless I am looking wrong or in the wrong place...
(was trying to do a spoiler thing with the config info from butterfly mania but I can't seem to figure the spoiler thing out and I don't want this to be extremely long...)

You're using Not Enough Items. NEI has a function in its options to dump all item and block IDs into a CSV file. You'll find it in your game directory, in a dumps folder, as item.csv. So, here's what you do: Start up your game with Butterfly Mania but not Barrels, and dump all the IDs. Save that file. Now put Barrels in, take Butterfly Mania out, dump all the IDs again. Compare the two files, and make sure that barrels and Butterfly Mania are using different ID ranges. If they conflict, change the Barrels IDs to put them into a block of unused IDs (the NEI info dumps will show you which IDs are unused, as well as which are used and by what item from what mod).
Remember that because Minecraft moves all the item IDs up by 256 during loading to make room for the blocks, an item that you set to ID 3000 in the mod's config file will show up as ID 3256 in the world.
If this does NOT fix the problem, then it's not an ID conflict, there is some kind of code compatibility issue between Barrels Mod and Butterfly Mania. In that case, you might try JABBA instead — "Just Another Better Barrels Attempt". JABBA's barrels take a bit of a different direction from Barrels Mod's — in particular, their barrel upgrade mechanism is Byzantinely expensive and unwieldy — but they do have a nice feature that Barrels Mod barrels don't (yet), the ability to lock barrels to hold a particular item type (or lock them empty until needed).
Then the next ID is 10256. So I am not quite sure what I should try to set the barrels to. I tried 4114 and they didn't show up like in the beginning, then I tried 4369 and that just caused the game to not open.
Remember that you cannot use any starting (pre-remap) block ID higher than 4095.
Barrels Mod is only using the one ID; try looking for an open ID somewhere down around 3000. The top end of the ID range tends to get really overloaded because so many mod developers think, "Hey, surely nobody will be using those IDs..." Pick one that NEI says is unused, and remember to subtract 256 from the IDs listed by NEI to get the value for your barrels.cfg file. DON'T touch the network ID.
This all gets a LOT better in 1.7 when blocks and items are identified by namespaced strings instead of a single shared pool of numeric IDs. I was constantly fixing block conflicts getting my 1.6.4 modpack working. I've never had a block conflict in 1.7.
(And I mention as an aside that usually, once you've got all of your ID conflicts resolved and all of your mods working together, it's a smart move to regenerate the world from scratch to make sure there's no weird inconsistencies. But that may not be an option for you, since I infer you have an existing world that your players have already built things in and you're seeking to add barrels to it. Relict blocks no longer claimed by any installed mod are ALSO handled much better in 1.7; Forge detects them and will automatically remove them for you.)
Ok I will give that a try. Although I did download the Jabba barrel mod you spoke of and it also didn't work with the butterfly one. The butterfly items in NEI were changed with partial Barrel icons and the actual barrel items were not there, except the dolly. I think I may just need to talk to the kids about putting the butterfly one to the side for a while until I decide to upgrade minecraft to a newer version. I like the jabba one for the addons you can use like the hoppers. So I think I may just stick with that one for a while. Thank you for all of your help I am sure if I have any further complications I will be back

OK, that's a clear sign of an ID conflict. All kinds of weird things start happening when two items are competing for the same ID.
The 3.5 version of this mod for Minecraft 1.7.10 is causes "severe problem during mod loading that has caused the game to fail."

Ok I will try that thank you. I will let you know what happens.Alright so I dumped both, and found that butterfly mania is using the 4000 ID. And it goes up to 4113:

Then here is the barrels one:
3051
Block
fossil
tile.vaseKylix
mods.fossil.blocks.BlockVaseKylix
4000
Block
barrels
tile.barrel
need4speed402.mods.barrels.BlockBarrel
4095
Block
fossil
tile.palaeorapheSlab
mods.fossil.blocks.BlockPalaeSlab
Then the next ID is 10256. So I am not quite sure what I should try to set the barrels to. I tried 4114 and they didn't show up like in the beginning, then I tried 4369 and that just caused the game to not open.
OK, that's a clear sign of an ID conflict. All kinds of weird things start happening when two items are competing for the same ID.

Upon skimming through the error log (which is something that I do, I like to see how these things work.) It seems to be complaining about the language file. Is there some sort of special character you are using in the mod, or is the included language file for the mod broken?
