I've heard suggestions for a live version of VATS on other sites, that include something along the lines of Red Dead Redemption's dead-eye thing, where you zoom in a bit and your accuracy is boosted. The problem with this is that it works with third-person RPGs like RDR but not so well with first-person games with a need for higher accuracy - it basically becomes a built-in aimbot, unless you severely nerf it. It'd be worth a shot though. Max_FFF's idea with the action points is good, I think.
I've got an idea for the V.A.T.S. and I think it'd work.
What I'm thinking is you could add an AI to the player (Yes, I've done it before. You just have to know how to enable and disable thier AI tasks) to make him/her target the selected mob/player for so many seconds as you choose.
For each second you add, your Action Points would reduce (I think that'd be a quite a good way of limiting the amout of time being controlled by AI).
You'd have to detect what the player is holding aswell if you want to make it compatible with bows, guns and throwables.

The AI idea sounds pretty nifty, but it would take me some time to figure that out :P. Also the Deadeye idea is interesting, when activated my plan is that the game time would slow down and the camera mode (F8 I believe) is activated. F8 increases smoothness by a ton with mouse movement.

Not sure how feasible it is to slow down the game's time, which is why I suggested the deadeye thing. It would work for singleplayer (would it really though, now that SSP runs on a server?), but when you have multiple people you couldn't just slow down time for one person. It'd have to be for all or for none, and slowing down everyone because a guy went into VATS seems like it would get annoying easily, especially for people with lag.

If I was really skilled with java I could do the thing that Max Payne 3 does, everything in the players FOV slows done but the rest of the game stays normal o_O

I think would be easy if you do something like this
Haven't really implemented radiation yet, I was gonna make it invisible water blocks that can float, so if you walk inside one instead of drowning, your rads go up.

You would have to give individual hitboxes to mobs, I'd think. As it stands, you hit an entity anywhere on its broadly-defined hitbox, and the hit registers; there are no such thing as headshots, to my knowledge.
The whole Vats thing seems complicated, but Im would think about something a bit more simple first. Like, for example, the storage and weight system. Is there going to be a certain weight you can hold, or is that not going to be in the game. And what about how much you can hold. In Fallout, you can hold alot more items than 36 items
The pip-boy will probably be a chest in the near future...Idk when though. Busy with other stuff right now. About weight systems, that could work? Don't know exactly how. Great ideas!
Yeah, It'd be hard to do if you want to make it smooth but there is a way of slowing down or speeding up time though it slowly corrects itself over-time.
My idea is that if you could slow down time for the players client then speed it up quickly to the actual time after the mobs death, then on servers don't slow down the player it wouldn't have to affect other players... Only problem would be how to make the server stop correcting clients movment and such to prevent cheating.
I'm not sure if this is going to work because my server modding experience is limited but it sounds like it'd work to me.
That seems like it would work, but I'm gonna stay away from server stuff until I've got a little more stuff in the mod. About VATS, I was thinking about using a while loop that would pause the game until you right clicked again...maybe something like that would work? Regardless, VATS won't be here for some time.
can some one tell me where the dowload button is? also the line that says "Current: [1.4.7][Forge] v1.5.4" i click v1.5.4 and media fire doesnt work. please help
Lol dude you made an accout to say that? XD

XD haven't heard of that one yet lol. I'll look for something that might be causing that, I haven't seen it.

Should be 100% compatible. Unless our biome classes have the same name, I have a wasteland biome too, it should be fine
