So I had an idea with regards to the good-evil alignment system and the need for a main Lord of the Rings storyline quest, which wouldn't seem to work together very well. (Imagine getting halfway through the storyline and then slaying hundreds of hobbits - Gandalf wouldn't want to talk to you after that, would he?)
What if you have to complete the main quest, and then the alignment becomes available? Meaning that after defeating Sauron you gain the freedom to play how you wish, so you could continue to work for good in Middle-earth, or form an army with the remaining orcs and Ringwraiths and become a Dark Lord yourself. This could also lead to some pretty amazing battle scenarios on a multiplayer server, with one player acting as the King of Gondor leading a charge against the forces of Mordor led by another player.
What do you think about this?
i like this but i think that maybe haveing it be kind of Dungeons and dragonsish like haveing a whole bunch of quests like just working through the whole storyline. like you act as a soldeir in gondors army or vice virsa or acting as sam
i really love this mod, would love to see small settlements from middle-earth, or perhaps random inns where you can sleep and hire people to join you later on, just an idea...
I'm going to try and make it as close to the Lord of the Rings story as possible - however, I'm not sure how to do this with the alignment thing too. Maybe there's an 'evil alternative' quest that you can take instead if you decide to play aligned with the forces of evil.
What about in multiplayer though? Since there could be many different players taking the same quest and some doing the alternative quest, and these quests will probably be quite world-changing (e.g. destroying Sauron's tower, as an example), I don't know how this should be handled. Is it alright for the actions of some players doing a quest on a server to make it impossible for other players to do another? I'd like to know if anyone has any ideas about this.
just an idea, what if you where able to disable the storyline in multiplayer in a config or something? for those big servers that get 10-20 people on a day the world changes by the mod would not work so they would disable it. but on the other hand you are able to keep it enabled for people who intend to do a lets play for the storyline only once.
i have a few suggestions 1.when you walk into the misty mountains you see a sillouet of giant rock monsters fighting each other
2.in the misty mountains is a generated structure where you can fight the dragon from the hobbit
3.put mountain of doom into mordor
4.more mobs,blocks,generated structures,and items
5.put another boss fight where you fight sauron
6.put dwarves and elves into it.......dwarves living in the misty mountains or travelling somewhere else and elves in RIVENDELL
7.dwarven and elven items
8.put edoras into rohan biome and an actual minis tirith structure
and give me a shout out on youtube if you liked these ideas
I do plan to split the quest into smaller parts, where you play the role of the various characters. Just like in LOTR itself where the narrative changes from Frodo and Sam, to Merry and Pippin, to Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, etc.
well i meaN my frineds are doing a chapter by chapter adventure fot the entire lord of the rings series all 14 books and we plan to use this mod. i think haveing a option the made it more like a adventure map would be amazing even if it was very vauge

i got that same crash using the same mods. i think its reiminimap causing the problem, after uninstalling it the crashes stop.
Still not working. I installed the newest version of MC forge and I out the [1 file into the mods folder (and tried the lotr folder) but it doesn't do anything.
Nothing to do with Rei's minimap. You need to use Minecraft Forge version 518 or higher, as it says right next to the download link.
Have you never installed Forge mods before? It's really quite simple. Delete META-INF from the minecraft.jar, drag all the Forge files in, then start and close Minecraft, go back to the .minecraft folder, open the mods folder, and drag the downloaded zip into there. No extracting of the zip or putting anything into it is necessary.
Nothing to do with Rei's minimap. You need to use Minecraft Forge version 518 or higher, as it says right next to the download link. And you probably haven't corrupted the world, it's not as easy to corrupt a world as you think.
I think it might be the version of Forge because I installed version 660 and deleted META-INF and I've got no other mods but the game crashes whenever you go through the portal.
Works amazingly over here, can't wait for the next beta update.
I got a suggestion, the hobbit holes/houses should be some sort of smaller(Due to their actual tiny size), but a player should still be able to fit inside.
Yeah, I've never downloaded a forge mod before, only ones like TMI, Millenare, Mo' creatures, SDK guns, etc
And I think the problem was I forgot to delete META-INF, thanks.
EDIT: Just looked in the jar and meta-inf wasn't there.
