Support and Development
Support and development for this mod was discontinued at the end of 2013, instead of updating AE, I have focused on rewriting the mod from scratch, which is now available as Applied Energistics 2 for MC 1.7.2+.
This mod (plugin, patch to Minecraft source, henceforth "Mod" or "The Mod"), by the terms of http://minecraft.net/terms are sole property of the Mod author (AlgorithmX2, henceforth "Owner" or "The Owner"). By default it may only be distributed on its own from http://ae-mod.info. It may not be distributed on its own from any other source. It may be included in any modpack with other mods, as long as it does not attempt to make money off The Owner's Mods. URL shorteners or other attempts to make money off The Owner's Mods are strictly forbidden without advance written permission. Attempts to modify the Mod, and distribute modified versions are Strictly Prohibited, regardless of the modifications in question.
This is one of the best WIP mods i've seen yet, reminds me quite a bit of logistics pipes. Especially love how you can configure how you want the autocrafting to work.
Sorry for the rapid update to anyone trying the mod, but I had to fix a few comparability issues, and get it working without any other mod dependencies.
just have to say ummm AWSOME.But to be honest no idea what this can actualy be used for i mean automation better storage etc COOL but say for example i have a huge factory that can auto craft everything a evil machine addict (like me) could ever want well would this mod simply make it easier for my factory to function like say using 1 or maby 2 of the chests you made to hold all the mats i need but be able to hook them up to a chass mk 3 with prov and being able to pull them out when i want and only certain items or would it allow me to auto craft a bunch of stuff in no time flat (refering to where you mentioned the transport speed of the items in your pipes) and get stored in an overall chest full of machinery goodies?
Depends on what your doing, you can use it to store all your goodies, or you can use it to connect multiple facilities so you can share large quantities of items between different nearby locations, you can simply use it for amazingly huge storage.
Personally my favorite feature is being able to to access the entire storage system from tons of different places, using it with logistics pipes is a great way to handle automated production or farms too, depending on how you do things.
My setup uses a cable to connect my farms, my energy / smelting depot and my house with access terminals at each location, that way I can always craft at any of my buildings, great when you are working at a location where you aren't physically storing items.
Another use I've found is simply moving huge chunks of items, you can cram tons and tons of items into a storage cell, and bring it with you, then extract it when you get to a destination, thus you can simply move large amounts of resources from one location to another.
Unfortunately at the moment it doesn't work well with automated crafting in Logistics pipes, one of the main reasons why i'm introducing one into it, because auto crafting as a lot to do with how your items are stored, for instance of you use an interface to export 64 iron, it can only use 64 iron in any one recipe which can either require small amounts of crafting at a time, or simply unable to craft because of missing resources.
I'm hoping to solve this issue soon, with the introduction of auto crafting into ME but hopefully everyone will give it a shot even if its for less central role applications.
Maybe that gave you some ideas, of what you might do?
I'm always open to ideas if you can think of something that would be great, that isn't available yet.
I spent 5 minutes staring at this post in confusion before concluding that this is incredible and fantastic and the best thing since beef jerky and all kinds of other things and I' definetly going to try to add this next time we update my minecraft server. Just one question: when EU usage is added like you plan to, will we need to power the access terminals, and figure out how to get two seperate cables to connect to them? Or do we just need to power the ME chests, or what?
Personally I cant wait to add this to my server. We're trying to make a whole gridded out city thing, and just being able to have a central server for all the community resources that can be accessed from everyones homes for whenever they need food or building materials; or put one in the villager segment so you can always get what you need to trade with the villagers right away, or all manner of other things. Do you know how well the access terminals work with TC golems getting / removing items from them?
You would need to use an interface for that rather than the terminal for them, however my small test where I had them use an interface for retrieving phials and depositing essentia worked great.
Ok after reading your post i definitely have to give this a try cuz right now my factory is a MASSIVE building (prox 50 blocks wide and 30 blocks high two stories) so def tired of having one big building when i can simply build my own lil town.If possible could you or someone you know make a spot light or a basic tutorial to help those like me that are so used to using the old system of BC/log.Also was wondering for power req...basicaly simplyput will i be able to use my APS fusion setup to power this or will it just req your specific power generation.
ummmm OMG thats awsome jumped into creative mode and switched my junk from my storage part of my factory into the storage cell and holy crap thats AWSOME.def keeping this now to figure out how to make it more of an advance setup not just a storage for dummies like i have now lol.
will i be able to use my APS fusion setup to power this or will it just req your specific power generation.
At this time, I'm planning on at minimum using IC2 EU's, I'm also considering support BC's MJ's, this would allow the big power systems to both be used, without needing additional MJ/EU transformer mods. I think APS is BC right?
If possible could you or someone you know make a spot light or a basic tutorial to help those like me that are so used to using the old system of BC/log.
I'll try to throw together some thing of a guide together to show to to use some of the more interesting setups with BC / Logistics Pipes or RP2.
APS is the big motha fusion reactor for BC( i personaly do not use IC2 but im sure alot of peope do) but imo id say just do the MJ support so even those using vanilla BC or any type of MJ engine culd power the mod.I use APS becuz of how many diff machine i have running in my auto process/crafting factory so once our mod has power needs ill probly have to add another fusin reactor in it,but yes in short APS is buildcraft advanced power systems. The reason why i got away from IC2 was becz of the nuclear reactor it was good and fun but my old factory was using 5 of them at 420 eu/t to run it due to them running out of uranium (I am sure people have auto fillers for that) so i had enough time and energy to craft and get the mats i needed to fill the empty ones back up.
P.S. forgot to ask is there gunna be gate control through BC gates or is that a no no?
Here are some basic examples to help everyone get started with automation / integration. both are simple, but I think it helps demonstrate the key elements and what not, I think everyone can get more out of the simple examples then more complicated ones.
Let me know if there are any questions.
Heres my test setup for Thaumcraft golems.
Heres a simple example of a buildcraft pipe setup that converts all smooth stone to stone brick
.
Hmm, it should be able to go right in as long as there is a storage cell, and its not full, below is an example using logistics pipes, into a chest without a network.
If that doesn't help is it possible to get a screen shot of your setup to see if I can spot the issue?
Extracts Cobble, and dumps it into a ME Chest for easy transport.
Ok i set it up just like you but it only seemed to put it into the chest when i took out the chass mk3 for some reason higher then the mk 1 on the modules or the pipes itself it doesnt register it as a suitable location.
I tried using the Item Sink module on a Chassis Pipe, and it appears to be the issue.
Edit: I've identified the problem, and believe I can come up with a fix, its also a problem when using RP2 with the chest.
In the mean time using the basic pipe as the item sink appears to work flawlessly however,
Another solution would be to use an interface / ram / controller as well as it works fine with the interface, just not the chest directly, if you intend to extract items with LP, you'll need the interface anyway, as chests are useful for inputting items, but not really removing items So that might be the direction you want to go anyway.
As far as screen shots go,
I'm not sure how/if you can upload photos here, I host my photos on drop box, and link to them from here.
You could use any photo sharing service out there as well like Photo Bucket or Flickr, and just post the link here.
alright ill try that next also need to test the chest with the phased transport pipe.Btw how would i go about using the interface and ram to input items into the storage cell.Only way i know how to put items into storage is through the chest.(sorry if im being nubish i just rely like the compact and complexity of your mod plus when you get autocrafting up ill be able to redo my LP network).
To use the interface you must first have a complete network, basically,
1 Controller
1 Ram
1 Chest or Drive ( with storage cell )
once you have that wired / next to each other you can add an interface. and pipe items into it, anything piped into the interface will be added to a storage cell in the chest / drive, it will try to find the most appropriate place for it when its added.
Interfaces will automatically use ram they need, and you can check if your low on ram by simply access a Access Terminal on the network, if your out, it will send a chat message to you when you open it, that says "Network is low on ram" or something similar.
Letting your LP network pull items from the interface is pretty easy too, you just need to configure the "Exports" in the interface's Interface, this tells ME which items you want / and how many of them should be accessible via this interface, it then moves them to ram so that external tubes and stuff can access them.
Take a peak at the Buildcraft example above to see how thats setup as a hint.

From that all other components will receive their power via the ME Cables / other devices so it won't be a huge hassle.
