Currently, I'm trying to overcharge my larger node to help with putting some infused stone back in the world, but I've been running into some weird issues.
The aura that the 120+ Mixed Crystal Clusters are literally right on top of will not overcharge at all unless no one is in the server and the chunk is loaded via World Anchor. It attempts to overcharge 2 aura nodes around 85 and 110 meters away from our base vs the node we want it to overcharge. The node stays at 1341/1341 unless all players log off and give it a little time.
Any idea why it's doing this? What can I do to fix this other than merge the 2 nodes into the larger one?
My whole node system is a bit derpy - it doesn't choose nodes on proximity, it just checks if it is inside a nodes area of influence and grabs the first valid one in its own internal lists (which could be in any order). More than likely the "wrong" node that is getting charged is in a loaded chunk and only when everyone is offline does it's chunk unload, allowing your nodes to start charging.
Had an odd and completely evil idea for an effect of flux in the new system: Fake mobs. As in, when flux reaches a certain point, you start 'hallucinating'. Mobs that aren't really there. A creeper only you can see. Stuff that wanders in and out of the edges of your vision. That sort of thing. Imagine how amusing it would be to watch someone who just didn't care about flux levels suddenly fleeing around your server because he's convinced there's a group of charged creepers chasing him... or suddenly seeing the Ender dragon flying at him in the overworld.
Alternatively, if it was at all possible, some sort of client-side mobs that actually can hurt you but wouldn't actually show up for other players. Obviously in this case you couldn't have creepers or anything that can damage terrain, but still interesting.
I want to say "DON'T GIVE HIM ANYMORE IDEAS! I have Twilight Forest mobs/bosses, Vanilla mobs/bosses, Tinker's Construct/Natura mobs and soon to be Ars Magica 2 mobs/bosses to deal with! I don't need hallucinations, too! I'm already half way to paranoid!"
BUT... then I remember this is Thaumcraft we're talking about - the (first?) mod to make a literal biome buster without the use of TNT, the same mod that requires you to stick your head in the hole, despite any consequences that may follow and is home to awesome-looking magical devices and cool mystical effects and stuff... so... do your worst, Azanor (will regret saying that cause she will be unfortunate enough to spawn in a Taint biome).

Give Grimoire of Gaia a try too. Interesting, but really tough, mobs. When I hear a sudden fizzz behind me I breath a sigh of relief - "phew - its only a creeper"

I might add that later on after I have a home and decent armor/weapons so I don't get outright owned (and if it doesn't cause problems for the rest of my other mods).
I wish thaumatic slimes would come back. I liked them a lot. Perhaps as a pet, because I honestly thought that they were one of the coolest things in TC2. I remember using the portal runes to cause huge taint fluctuation, causing them to become massive, even though they were cordoned off in a chunk, allowing me to poke them with a fire wand until they puked up crystals. Maybe a slime in a jar? That'd be fun. Actually, I wouldn't mind some purely aesthetic items in TC, like finding out you certainly are able to make things, but that doesn't mean it'll be useful. Slime in a jar, holding lamps for the self sustaining fires that I've forgotten the name of, totems made out of zombie brains and sticks, magical wall chains that would restrain a zombie (actually, that could be useful for de-zombifying villagers,) pet floating heads, miniature creeper cages, a failed golem that just sits there and tells jokes whenever you talk to him, chandeliers made out of vis crystals (more on the chandelier than actually used, since I'd assume you'd use fragments of the crystals, rather than piles of whole ones,) stands for wands, an abomination created out of raw meat that just sort of lumbers along behind you because it imprinted to you when you created it, but is incapable of fighting (yet,) and is made of rotten meat and nightmares, so doesn't even serve to attract zombies, etc. That last one, I think it'd be cool if you could add more and more rotten meat two it, and it'd become a progressively bigger and bigger horror.
What makes you think I was ever being reasonable? I'm sitting here with a pile of guns while wearing a flamethrower, and you thought that, at some point, I was being reasonable?

While this is a fun idea, I hate to say that the illusions being able to harm you may upset some people and I mean in other ways. I have a friend that sometimes sees things and after seeing that idea they stated that she would not play this mod anymore in fear of triggering something. May sound off but sometimes it good to think of people like that, like how most people don't implement rapid flashing light effects.

correct me, if im wrong. but im pretty shure theyre coming back. azanor teased a picture a while ago, with a purple slime in the background.
by the way, since were talking about pets. every wizard needs a familiar.
it would be cool, if we could choose a mob as our personal assistant. would be nice, if he had some sort of cool functions. like he could have an extra inventory for thaumcraft items. similar to the forestry backpack. so he follows you around and you always have your most important tools at hand, to practise your magic.
maybe, they can even have different abilities. some of them can hold items for you, others just fight for you, and some others give you a permanent buff.
like, having an ocelote as your familiar gives you a small, permanent speed and jumping buff, while a zombie can carry around stuff for you, and a wolf fights off hostile mobs. etc.
so far, i can come up with an ocelote, a small slime, a wolf, pig, a firebat, maybe some sort of imp, a whisp, a small spider, simply one of your golems youve taken a liking to, and a baby zombie. other ideas?
maybe one of the small critters from the twilight forest, when the mod is installed (raven, bunny squirrel etc.), or one of the small caramite ghasts.
we could maybe catch one of the mobs we encounter, and make a pact with it.

I want to write an addon mod for this one so bad, which elaborates on the golems (the golem bell you're introducing in 3.1 looks fantastic). but first I have to learn Java ect.
are there any sources you can suggest for learning how to mod Minecraft?

if i would have any clue of coding, i would write a mod containing 2 things.
a.) full narration of thaumcraft. because i just find the idea cool.
b.) the research for the arcane door, and the portable hole leads to a research for a door into a pocket dimension. (it could be placed against any wall, and upon opening, the animation would look like a portable hole corridor). this dimension is basically empty like a mystcraft void age, except, that it contains a gigantic island, that is floating in the nothingness.
this island has its own biome and is completely hostile and tainted. at the center of the island, you will find a boss mob, that is basically a node, that is posessed by a malefic entity. (it just sits there in place)
it looks like a huge node, with an eye. (like the eyes of ender). depending on the type of node, the battle will have different mechanics. it will shoot lighning at you, it will debuff you with negative flux effects, spawn whisps, laugh at you and be generally scary.
the way to the overworld is also blocked, until you defeat the boss.
when you manage to defeat and excorcise it, you can claim the node and choose one of muliple options. purify it, which cleanses the taint and causes it to receide, the grass turns blue and the node becomes pure, trees turn into silverwoods. turn it into a flux node, to play with a more risky type of magic. or leave it as an evil node, and thrive on the taint.
you alone, and anyone with one of your keys can access the dimesion, and it can serve as a personal sanctuary. (you can visit each others sanctuaries only, when you have the key to the door of another player, and walk through his door. otherwise, it creates one separate pocket dimension for each player.).

I like this idea... a Thaumists personal dimension.
Reminds me of Mystcraft though although this does have potential. A Void that has the same foreground and background as the effect from a Portable hole, where the player is in a completely empty void, where he/she can use material from the real world and use it to build his/her own paradise.
The discoveries of a Thaumist really does not end, it would be nice to have a Personal dimension to run as you please, As well as Familiars that act as a assistant in General, but each have their own traits, powers and abilities left to the thaumist's avail.
Course having your own Personal Dimension would mean being tasked to maintain its own Thaum Node like in the real world in order to keep everything present as is or risk the collapse of the entire Dimension, maybe even the loss of everything that was once there. (Course the player will always be expelled.)

Yes. A portable 'door' which acts as a hole between worlds rather than between walls.
I'm sort of imagining using an object similar to the portable hole on a wall underground, but instead of opening a long tunnel to a cave it opens a meter deep hole, and the other side is anything but the cave it should lead to.
Maybe the end result depends on how much flux is in the everywhere.
Maybe it's a bit fragile, and opening the tear to wherever it leads to would be like opening the window on a spaceship. All that flux in the environment just comes flooding in to this multidimensional space of nothingness. Or maybe it's the opposite and the other side has an incredibly high amount of flux, causing it all to rush out and pollute your face in.
Maybe it's a matter of luck.
Perhaps if there is anyone willing to create an addon for this mod? Or if Azanor likes the idea?
Course by himself, something like that would take a long while. A team that does it together would have it come out faster, There is an addon like this already in the FTB Unleashed, perhaps if we ask whom made the addon if its possible that if severals were to collaborate with him, that a Personal Dimension would be possible?

Dimensional doors mod.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
What makes you think I was ever being reasonable? I'm sitting here with a pile of guns while wearing a flamethrower, and you thought that, at some point, I was being reasonable?
dimensional doors is still an entirely different concept imo. (ok, maybe not that different)
but i imagined it as some sort of adventure addon for thaumcraft. you have to first battle your way through mobs and a really scary boss, before you can claim it for yourself.
I like this idea... a Thaumists personal dimension.
Reminds me of Mystcraft though although this does have potential. A Void that has the same foreground and background as the effect from a Portable hole, where the player is in a completely empty void, where he/she can use material from the real world and use it to build his/her own paradise.
[...]
yea, i imagined it like this too. would look pretty awesome.
edit.: another idea. i dont know, how this could fit into the mod. but how about trapped mirrors? if you trigger the trap, an evil mirror image of yourself suddenly steps out of it and starts attacking you.
maybe a flux effect, when you have a mirror nearby? (i still want to see 1 by 2 sized mirrors as magical teleportation device. similar to the item transporting mirrors, just for player and golem teleportation. thaumcraft 2 had a similar mechanic.)
For a personal dimension, I'm thinking of is like this, as stated about its empty void having
the fore and back ground of the Portable Hole effect.
The Personal Dimension is a personal dimension from a long period of Thaumic study can lead to
the development of creating a fragile yet versatile dimension which can use the elements it
can from the Thaumaturges world.
The Dimension is only possible from creating a special Artificial Aura Node that once
deployed, cannot be picked it. It is the mechanism of extremely powerful Thaumatogical magic
that lets you remotely control the aspects of the Dimension (Or to a reasonable extent) as
well as powering the entire dimension and sustaining Existence with in the void.
The Artificial Aura Node can and will destabilize, and will require careful attention and care
to it from time to time. Like an Aura Node, it can grow bigger as thaumic
gear/magic/powers/etc used in the Dimension will expend the Aura in the air. Course the
Artificial Aura node can hold a huge amount of Aura to begin with, it can still be spent
quickly if one is not careful or inexperienced to believe it'll sustain itself.
Like in the Overworld, Aura nodes can be created near it to make it expand. But once deployed,
the Artificial Aura node will NOT move. Its so unstable that moving it can cause a rupture in
the existence of the dimension. It has a longer reach so it will pull all Aura nodes to itself
no matter how far. Also using Containment devices with a special treated Aura can also be
placed into the Artificial Aura Node can help expand its maximum Aura/refill the aura if some
of its aura was expended.
Upon entry, a platform of Thaumic energy will be ready for the player to land on without
falling infinitely (Well you die really) into the void, Allowing the player to place stable
static blocks to be able to get working ground. The Portal will always remain open (Or maybe
being able to return to the over world using the same item used to enter that pocket.) from
where the player entered from.
There are upsides to this as there is downsides to a Personal Thaumic Dimension pocket:
- The Dimension, upon use, will exist suddenly. Whatever forces of darkness that inhabits
the Overworld, Nether and Ender World will have no dominion over this dimension since it was
built with... "You in mind."
- The Dimension is for personal use, although there is only such a small few ways to get in
(Device made by the owner to allow others in) No force or existing beings can enter the
portal. Nonewhatsoever.
- The Dimension is Malliable, completely malliable as a Skybox challenge that usually
circulates around the MC forums and fans. Only its gimmick is near deity control over how the
Dimension works.
- (Optional) Speaking of nothing can get in, only you can use the same item/portal you
made, no one else. With special devices that would only work in the new Personal Thaumic
Dimension, you can peer on specific locations using a device that you can plant back in the
overworld/nether/ender, and another to watch what goes on.
- (Optional) Owning a dimension opens up a new plethora of devices to discover and create
that can let you manage how your Dimension works. Even conjuring familiar Passive & Aggressive
mobs but being able to adjust their behavior, strengths and weaknesses differently from their
originals, creating protectors or common creatures to just exist in the dimension, to give it
a sense of life.
----
~ Of course that the Good exist, there is the bad:
- The Dimension is unstable, in a specific way. The Artificial aura Node made to maintain
it can let it all collapse if not maintained. (Of course while you are gone, the Dimension
remains stable so there is no worry of being gone for more then a day then suddenly find out
that the dimension can't be access due to a collapse.)
- Should the Dimension Collapse, everything in it (Except the player and what he/she keeps
on her/himself) will be destroyed in the collapse, the player will be expelled.
- Although there might be specific devices to make specific mobs appear in the dimension
but to be different from their usual, Flux still exists. If one isn't care while performing
their experiments in their own Pocket Dimension, The forces of darkness WILL NOT hesitate to
take advantage of the holes the flux creates, in which case... Instead of the common enemies
showing up, Unique, supped up equivalents will spawn into the dimension into the world. They
go under the Flux prefix, being supped up from the average common enemy, and will be proven to
be quite a challenge. If one does show up, they need to removed IMMEDIATELY, they still have
the mentality to hate the player and all that he/she creates and will destroy everything it
sees, even at the expense of their sense of self-preservation.
- Per usual, if a player does get into your dimension, they can wreck everything. Only give
someone the means to enter your "World" only if you trust them.
- Charge I enchantments will draw power even from the Artificial Aura Node, so it will not discriminate from where it recharges itself from. Take precautions before entering your own pocket.
- The Artificial Aura Node can, in a way, be attacked directly. Excess flux, attacking it from a specific way, or depleting the aura completely will make the dimension collapse.
(My apologies, seems Copy+Pasting it from note pad has caused something to make them spaced out. Sadly I have no patience to fix it. I did some alterations and saved it but it went right back.)
I really like the idea of the personal dimension. Very cool concept there.
I have no idea how one would do it, but if you could have some sort of teleportation system going on there with multiple doors to your dimension... Combining that with Millénaire, you could totally have an awesome 'Howl's Moving Castle' effect on the door, and that would be really sweet.
However, I think that this should really be a 'thaumic tinkerer' sort of addon to thaumcraft. I'd hate to have to wait even longer for this fantabulous update.
Be merciful, please!
Give Grimoire of Gaia a try too. Interesting, but really tough, mobs. When I hear a sudden fizzz behind me I breath a sigh of relief - "phew - its only a creeper"
So in short, there is no way to stop this sans merging nodes =/ Oh well, guess I'll work on that tomorrow before I head off to work.
Damn i love this idea of "hallucinating" !!!
Minecraft without Thaumcraft is like a pizza without cheese, tasteless !!!
Also, Taint looks AWESOME.
I might add that later on after I have a home and decent armor/weapons so I don't get outright owned (and if it doesn't cause problems for the rest of my other mods).
