This looks very useful. I wish mojang would grab sensible stuff like this and throw it in the game. But I don't use modloader anymore so I'll keep an eye on it too for forge.

Hello Guys! Do you know the moments, where you want to change e.g. oak planks into jungle planks? Then this mod is for YOU! With the Wood Converter Mod, you can convert all your planks, slabs, stairs and logs into other type planks, slabs, stairs and logs! Furthermore, you can craft slabs back into planks, stairs back into planks and planks back into logs.
1. Download ModLoader
2. Download Wood Converter
3. Search for %appdata% in your search bar (Vista/Win7)
4. Goto .minecraft/bin
5. Open minecraft.jar and delete META-INF
6. Open ModLoader and drag all files into minecraft.jar
7. Drag "[1.4.6/7]Wood Converter v2.1.zip" into your .minecraft/mods folder. If it doesn't exist, create it.
8. Close minecraft.jar, ModLoader and WoodConverter, startup Minecraft and enjoy!
(Sorry, Mac and Linux users, I don't know how to install mods on your platforms )
A block where you can select and change your wood in your wanted wood type. And a block where you can craft things back. You can't craft them back in the normal Workbench btw. I need some help with making the new GUIs. Little (Seriously. LITTLE!) spoiler of how it will possibly look like:

Make the Stairs -> Planks be balanced! each stair use 6 wood. 2*6 = 12 planks per craft!
You get 4 stairs out of 6 wood. If you place 2 stairs in the crafting bench, you get 3 wood. If you do this again your input was 4 stairs and your output 6 planks.

Hey, cool mod. Although I probably won't be using it because I play multiplayer. I recommend using Minecraft Forge. It's very much like Modloader, and will help you with those GUIs

I'll learn it asap. Atm, I have to learn for school :/ It's a bit tricky to put some modding in your to do list when it's almost full and you want to have some freetime, too
