What is a simple way to have a world use a different template?
Lets say that I have nothing in worlds.txt except for the comments normally found there.
In addition to "custom-normal-lowres.txt", and "custom-nether-lowres.txt", I want to have "custom-twilight-lowres.txt" for world 7, and "custom-dusk-lowres.txt" for assorted worlds in a list.
Now, lets say that the only difference between these is the specification of custom lighting, the only difference between these custom lighting and "normal" lighting is either specifying ambient light of 13 or 10 for everything (no "15"'s or "4"'s.)
Is there any way to separate ambient light out from the rest of lighting -- so I could say "world 7 uses template "custom-normal" and an ambient light override of 13.
Right now I have to triplicate every lighting that I use, and triplicate every template, when the only difference is the background lighting level.
Now, if you can do that, there's another "lighting override" I'd like to be able to do. Shadow Strength.
It took me some testing, but I determined that shadow strength of around 0.54-0.58 gives the right "fade to dark", to keep light "4" visible, barely, which light "0" looks completely dark. But for some worlds, such as the nether, or any "bright" world, I want to drop that down to around .2 -- so that even light 0 worlds are visible, yet the effect of torches are still apparent. So again, I can either duplicate all the normal and dusk templates to bright and duskbright, and duplicate all the lightings, or ask for some way to implement an override.
Summary:
I want to say "dimension 2 uses normal lowres, as defined in custom-normal-lowres, but all the lighting specified in there has the overrides of shadow strength .2 and ambient light 10", without having to have 4 sets of lighting and world templates.
Short answer is "No". Longer answer is that templates are world level, and you can only override top level settings for the world in the worlds file - things like name, visibilitylimits and the like. In that sense, the set of all the maps for the world is a single setting. If you want to use a template for a world, and then piecemeal modify specific settings, the easiest option is using the /dmap commands (see https://github.com/webbukkit/dynmap/wiki/Configuring-Maps-and-Worlds-using-dmap for details)

Exception is deep down in the MC code being called to load a chunk - no particular way for us to cause it. It is usually indicative of some sort of world data corruption in the associated chunk.
I've been running dynmap for about 9 months with HD rendering and an extra zoom level with the "large map" directory structure. My tiles dir is about 100gb. I am wondering if it's possible to remove the extra zoom level from the config and to delete the lowest zoom level tiles to free up space. I can't easily browse around the tiles dir to figure out the directory structure since it's so massive, is there some way to programmatically clean up these tiles without re-rendering the entire map as that would be prohibitively expensive.
The zoom out tiles will not save you much - each level above the primary rendered tiles is 1/4 the size of the previous level, so (mathematically) the sum of all the zoom levels above the base level will be <= 33% of the primary level (25% for the first, 6.25% for the second, 1.4% for the third, etc). Which OS are you running? Giving you a shell command that would delete the right files would be reasonably easy on linux, but not nearly so on windows.
Is there a way to restrict generation of tiles to a certain area?
I want to make some detailed underground maps of the area where we have built our base, and done exploring/torching of the caves. I don't want to generate those maps for the whole world, just for about 600 x 600 blocks (too much disk space to make them for the whole world).
That's not quite the same as visibility limit -- I don't want it to generate with fake filler blocks, I want it to not generate those tiles.
Can this be done?
You can do this with the visibility limits - just also set the 'hidestyle' to 'air' (versus stone). This will make the clipped areas 'empty' - and empty tiles cause fullrenders to stop, and it'll minimize the extra tiles generated (and the size of those that are generated at the borders).
Thank you for release forge-version dynmap! but it seems impossible for server players to register their own web account due to missing of permission... Is this mod has any own permission system?
Hey guys. Recently installed this on my Forge server and loving it. Can't go without it now, great work!
I have two questions. If I could get answers in the next hour, that would be AMAZING! I'm asking for a lot, and luck, lol.
First question: If I update from 1.4.2 to 1.4.5, how can I save the map that's already been generated and rendered for my current world? I seriously spent 3 hours exploring last night, maybe longer. I want that to stay discovered! lol
Second question: How can I enable the 3D map? I've read that it's in the 'normal' config file. I've opened it and see where it might be, but it's so garbled it's impossible to read or understand, from a on-programmer perspective. If I could at least word wrap it to organize is, I'd be fine, but it doesn't work. If somebody could explain how to make this text more organised, I could figure it out easily. Otherwise, if somebody could quote the exact phrase in the config file and which text to change to make it 3D, that would be awesome!!!!
Thanks!
1) Map should never need to be regenerated - unless you change how you want it drawn (new texture pack, perspective changes, etc). When you upgrade, just get the appropriate new mod (I'm supporting 1.2.5, 1.3.2, 1.4.2 and 1.4.5 right now), extract the ZIP in the base directory for the server (it'll add the mod ZIP to the mods directory, and refresh what is needed in the dynmap/ directory), and just restart with the new code - existing configuration and maps should work as before. If you NEED some of the new changes - we just added RP2 microblocks and some rendering improvements for things like stair corners - you MAY want to rerun the fullrender in order to freshen the map.
2) The easiest way to control the map configuration is to use the /dmap command (which will edit the worlds.txt for you). See https://github.com/webbukkit/dynmap/wiki/Configuring-Maps-and-Worlds-using-dmap for more details. In any case, the default templates give you a flat map, a 3d map, and a cave view map - you can remote the flat map using '/dmap mapdelete world:flat' and the cave map using '/dmap mapdelete world:cave'. On you web, you should already be able to see the 3D map when you open the tray menu on the right, and select the second icon.

I'm looking at different options for handling permissions on Forge - its a bit messy right now. I'll probably be adding the option for you guys to make specific commands usable by non-ops shortly - something simple and stupid.
I notice on some maps ive seen you can zoom right in and the textures stay really nice, sharp and smooth. But on mine they go blurry when i zoom in.. how can i change this?
I expect that you are using Chrome - if so, Chrome is the one browser that has failed to implement support for controlling how scaled up image files are scaled when they are "stretched": it insists on doing a soft, interpolated scale up, versus having a control to do a "crisp" one. Other browsers have a CSS control for this, or do "crisp" by default.
Yes thats correct, I am using Chrome, but how isit possible i can view someone else's map in such good quality but not my own? both being viewed through Chrome.
Only thing I can think of is that they've got fewer zoom out levels, or else you're rendering at lowres - are you using the hires templates?
Download the latest recommended version which comes packaged in a zip file. Extract all files from that zip in minecraft_server/plugins/ directory. Start the server, and allow t plugin to initialize. Open browser, go to http://localhost:8123/ or http://ip-address-of-server:8123/. Check the minecraft_server/plugins/dynmap directory for the configuration files and one of the links below on how to further customize your settings.

just wanted to say thanks to mike and domegg(i think? was the name) for the mention of the configs and the /dmap command bits, i was trying to configure it as well, apparently doing so the wrong way and editing the config files instead of using that command, was tempted to suggest removing the leading two spaces from every line to make the config a little less hostile but seeing as that would require removing the comment at the top explaining a good bit of stuff, it's nice to know that wouldn't actually be necessary.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
24 hours gone again, wasted in futility, welcome to minecraft modding, that is (unfortunately) our community.
(an ode to minecraft modding)
i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.
If people are wondering if this works for 1.4.5-R0.2 Bukkit, yes it probably does. Worked for me after a few tries. This is the first time I've used this, and when doing rendering the full world it crashed a couple times. The last time it crashed after it was done rendering, so everything is fine at the moment.
It is actually supposed to work - but only for IPs, since accessing the browser doesn't involve a user ID by default. You CAN enable login security, and then prevent folks that are not logged in from either seeing the map at all OR from being able to chat.
Darn the login adds to the overhead of accessing the map. Just IPs is fine, but are you able to add a feature to disable tileloading and everything (maybe just a 404 or redirect to a page) if their IP is banned from the server?
I expect that you are using Chrome - if so, Chrome is the one browser that has failed to implement support for controlling how scaled up image files are scaled when they are "stretched": it insists on doing a soft, interpolated scale up, versus having a control to do a "crisp" one. Other browsers have a CSS control for this, or do "crisp" by default.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
I'm a derpface or something...Having posted regarding the 3D map, its working fine...I didn't even realize there's a mouse-over tab on the right side of the page to switch to nether, 2D, 3D, etc... *FACEPALM*
Darn the login adds to the overhead of accessing the map. Just IPs is fine, but are you able to add a feature to disable tileloading and everything (maybe just a 404 or redirect to a page) if their IP is banned from the server?
Not sure I understand - how does it add to the overhead? The IP ban stuff should be manageable for the internal server.
Using the latest build of Forge (6.4.1.407) the map seems to have stopped rendering mod blocks.
Just tried the 1.2-alpha-2 build for 6.4.0 on 6.4.1.408, and it seems to be working fine. Which mods are you using?
Edit: Nevermind - finally found a mod that didn't explode, and I see now that Forge has changed the format of the configuration files (which we parse in order to figure out the block IDs associated with the various blocks in the various mods). I'll get a 6.4.1 beta out "soon" (read: later tonight) that can handle the changed config file format. :/
You can do this with the visibility limits - just also set the 'hidestyle' to 'air' (versus stone). This will make the clipped areas 'empty' - and empty tiles cause fullrenders to stop, and it'll minimize the extra tiles generated (and the size of those that are generated at the borders).
I'll try to find a chance to look at this - please open an issue on github for this.
Yes - the "Forge" version in the OP are all for vanilla servers with Minecraft Forge installed (no Bukkit).
Easiest option is to use the /dmap command (https://github.com/webbukkit/dynmap/wiki/Configuring-Maps-and-Worlds-using-dmap)
Specifically,
/dynmap pause all
/dmap mapdelete world:flat
/dmap mapdelete world:cave
/dynmap pause none
I expect that you are using Chrome - if so, Chrome is the one browser that has failed to implement support for controlling how scaled up image files are scaled when they are "stretched": it insists on doing a soft, interpolated scale up, versus having a control to do a "crisp" one. Other browsers have a CSS control for this, or do "crisp" by default.
Only thing I can think of is that they've got fewer zoom out levels, or else you're rendering at lowres - are you using the hires templates?
Hello. How can I install Dynmap on my MCMA server?
MCMA don't allow access to minecraft_server/plugins/dynmap directory. Only special "public" directory is available from teh internet.

Darn the login adds to the overhead of accessing the map. Just IPs is fine, but are you able to add a feature to disable tileloading and everything (maybe just a 404 or redirect to a page) if their IP is banned from the server?
Safari also does this -- makes it a bit blurry.

(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
Not sure I understand - how does it add to the overhead? The IP ban stuff should be manageable for the internal server.
I'm using dynmap 1.2 for forge. When I update to a new dynmap build, will I have to re-render all the blocks again, or is there a way around it?
