You can gain Necronomicon pages by killing Harbingers aswell! Soon Abyssal Fragments can be traded for Necronomicon Pages too.
The rest works as it should.

Livingmetal / Biomass repair each time you "Collect" souls/blood.
Pretty rare indeed, however on a good note... The rarity of the Essence Vessel and Necronomicon Pages have been lowered (More common to drop then before XD) - Congrats on killing 10+ Harbingers tho ^_-
Just my two cents on soulsand within the mod. (Which, I should note, I love.)
The engines would be crafted with either a soul keeper or a vessel (depending on the mod author's choice) surrounded in either livingmetal or biomass.The tools and armor would restore Durability By consuming souls and blood as there Previous incarnations did, but would do so by right clicking on crucibles or souls/blood with the item to Drain it, (would restore more durability per soul/blood since the entire soul/blood spatter would be consumed, also absorbing souls in a keeper would not restore durability)
The tools would look like their Counterparts but with a biomass or livingmetal engine at their bindings (Hilt of the sword, coneecter between head and handle of tool) which would be animated, When it Loses all durability it Would break once at 0 durability, But could still be refueled, but use it one more time and it breaks For good,
(Soulsteal and bloodletting would not spawn the Blood/souls, They would just be sucked into the tool automatically on the enemies' Death,)
Right clicking with the tools in hand would drain the engines to give a boost to the tool which can be done up toi three levels of charge before needing to use the charge (Increased damage for one hit and instant block breaking up to a cerain hardness for one block)
The armors would allow for walk-over Soul/blood harvesting if the durability is max and if there is a keeper of the proper type in your inventory (only a full set of engine armor will absorb automatically, also if the durability isn't max the blood/souls will simply restore durability of the armor)
The engines could ALSO be an item needed for these blocks that you have planned.
(And yes, this WAS inspired partially by the Devil may cry series, but at least it is fitting)
I have two ideas to expand on livingmetal and biomass blocks
Firstly Biomass blocks should damage undead creatures who are standing on them, (As though the blocks are consuming the flesh and bone) and this could speed up blood production on the blocks if an undead mob dies on it,
Next, There should be a multiblock structure using livingmetal blocks Like a Big cauldron Which when built would (Slowly) generate ectoplasm (the enemy, not the item) in it, allowing for soul farming. Standing near the structure would slow down the production, as some of the energy would be put towards healing you as it normally does,
These two suggestions would make biomass and livingmetal blocks More complimentary to one another, along with it fitting with the normal purpose of the mod.

The livingmetal cauldron would look a tiny bit like this and could only spawn small ectoplasm

I worked on a completely new sphax patch for the Harken Scythe, with textures 64x-512x (the former author did not update since the mc 1.4.5).

Are you sure you have the crucible ONLY 1 block away from the alter? It has to be in a position similar to a bookcase near an enchanting table; only 1 horizontal block away and nothing more/less. The vertical height can change though.
