That was my typo I think. It should be 1.7.2.wdl.jar.
I updated the instructions above to have the correct filenames in 2 places.
Followed the instructions to the T, started up the launcher, launched the WDL profile, and it immediately returned to the launcher. This was a lot closer to actually launching though!
Do you want me to post the crash report this time, or no? I'm really sorry for the inconveniences.
Thanks!

Go ahead and post it in a spoiler. I'm really curious what's going on with your install. Does it still just say it couldn't find Main?

The instructions say, "6. Open 1.x.x.wdl.jar, delete META-INF and copy in the class files from the World Downloader zip file." Problem -- one of the files in the zip is the folder "net". Dropping that folder in the jar file replaces the default "net", it doesn't merge the two folders.
The three files that are deleted are:
net/minecraft/server/MinecraftServer.class
net/minecraft/client/ClientBrandRetriever.class net/minecraft/client/main/Main.class
Probably your missing Main.
EDIT NOTE: Even without replacing those files (by sticking the wdl folder next to the server and client folders) it doesn't work on Mac.
I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned (I didn't want to read through 60+ pages of posts), but have you considered LiteLoader? It runs sides by side with Forge but lets you use most of your normal code with a Forge-like install. It says:
LiteLoader is aimed squarely at mods which only change the client in some way; some good examples might be a mini-map, a mod which overhauls the in-game chat or a client-side macro system. This type of mod doesn't generally need the awesome power of something like Minecraft Forge to function, so asking players to install an API that's several times larger than the mod itself doesn't make sense. It must however coexist peacefully alongside Forge (so that players can use both platforms if they want to!) and LiteLoader does this.

What kind of copy program would delete the folder and replace the enclosed files rather than merge it? Windows explorer doesn't act that way. Winrar doesn't act that way. Winzip doesn't act that way. 7-zip doesn't do that either. Is this some Mac feature?

It's a default Mac thing. Not sure why it doesn't give the option to merge -- its just kinda always been that way. It's easy for people to get tripped up by that.
I checked the logs after trying to install -- no crashing, no errors, just doesn't work.
I have encountered a problem when downloading worlds. Many times, it will say
"[WorldDL] Didn't save chunk [a] because isModified is false!"

Thanks for your work on a Lite Loader version. Do you have a fork from the Github code? I'd like to either link to your fork or integrate the relevant changes back to mainline. I remember you were also working on a Forge version that would not modify base classes. I have been swamped with work but I have made some progress along those lines too. At the version I have could be dropped in along side without modifying conflicting classes. What info can you share about your version?
Just wanted to write this again, just in case you didn't see

It isn't completed yet.
And the code is somehow re-arranged, so you might not be able to merge it completely yet.
Basically it uses Mumfrey's new tricks he integrated in the latest versions of LiteLoader.
It says this file does not exist, is this the correct pathname? Should "1.7.2.wdl.jar" be "1.7.2.jar.wdl"?
