Even if Silentine passes the mod over to another modder it will always be Silentine's mod. We all know it's not the coding that brought us to this mod, it's the awesome models that Silentine made. We really as fans of the mod and want to see it stay alive have to help find a modder that will be partners and do the coding while Silentine makes the epic monster models.
If Silentine were to pass it on to another modder then the modder would almost have to agree not to mess with the mod too much other than updating it. It would be sad to see it update only to find out that they added stuff that doesnt fit with the mod at all, or added mobs to the mod that have way different modeling than the ones Silentine made.
I also agree with the posters above me, github will be a great asset to you. I am aware of your coding challenges but this mod has become a staple for mob-adding mods.
I'm extremely happy your going to try to do this for all the fans of this mod. If you don't have much time you don't need to add anything new to the mod yet to make people happy either just the version update would probably be enough. Also make the config file somewhat easier to understand.
Silentine, set up a Github repo for this mod. There's more than enough contributors willing to help you out code-wise. Even more so, you will most likely find a worthy person to give over the mod should you decide to stop developing it alltogether.
The reason why I did not done this yet was because I have no idea how Github works.
Seeing that I am rather in a tight spot now I might try to figure out how it works.

This is why I need someone who I can trust. However seeing that I do not have the luxury of doing so I cannot make such demands. If I do let go of the mod the modder who accepts it has complete freedom over what direction he/she wants it to go. It would up to the community if they can agree in what direction the modder chooses.

Thanks for your offer.
I will open up a new wiki when I actually release a new update.

I hope everything goes well for you!
Sad thing is I may not add anything new, but remove a ton of content from the current mod (such as the Blocks, Tools/Weapons, NPCs and even mobs) if I cannot get it to work properly.
My primary objective is to release a mod which adds difficult mobs to the game. Anything else is secondary.
I apologize for my absence from the modding scene in the past few months. I have finally gathered the courage to finally address the issue about the future of this mod.
I will get to the point; why have I not updated the mod yet despite a length of time that has already passed? I recently spent a long amount of time to study for a board exam that was set at the end of October (Spoiler: I failed). However this is not the primary cause for the lack of updates; it is that I have not been playing Minecraft since the 1.7.x update and beyond.
I cannot find the motivation to update a mod for a game I do not currently play. I also fear that I may have forgotten a good deal of knowledge on how to code in Java. And the recent change in the policy of wikispaces no longer freely hosts none educational wikis meaning I need to rework all the information again.
The amount of time and work I would need to update the mod is staggering. The last update took me 3 weeks straight to update, let alone this update could take me months including relearning java, relearning how to mod in Minecraft and a new wiki. Sadly I currently do not have the amount of free time I had in the past.
What is next?
I cannot find the will to let go of the mod. I feel like I have sense of responsibility to work on an update after stating so previously. But at the same time I do not want to continue to drag it on and disappoint, especially with people who have waited ages for an update. Such a conundrum I am in.
One may suggest leaving the mod in the hands of another modder. Thing is I do not know anyone outside this thread nor in Minecraft itself who I can trust with such a responsibility. Not just trust or responsibility, I literally do not talk to anyone on the forum nor do I play with anyone in Minecraft. Not that I do not want to, I lack the capability to do so.
Social awkwardness aside, something inspired me today to finally set time to work on the mod. I might set up a schedule, maybe once or twice a week I will put effort into releasing a 1.7.x update. The process may be slow, but at least some progress will be made towards an update. Maybe if I have had enough or have realized I simply cannot release an update I will release the source and let the community itself update it, if they choose to. But until I have not tried to release an update, I will not give up just yet.
I will end it here. I do not want to end up with a "wall of text". I can go on and on but all that matters is "when is there going be an update", not "why is there no update".
Just wanted to say welcome back silentine. Glad to see that you've returned.
Was getting a bit worried that you had abandoned us, but am extremely happy that youve taken the time to address our concerns.
Looking forward to wherever you take this mod in the future, whether it be just updating it for newer mc versions or passing it on to someone else.
Too many devs abandon their mods without informing the community, so I am extremely happy to see that you've decided to post here and in this case decide to update the mod a bit longer.
Hope the exam stuff went well too and again glad to see you back here.
Silentine, good job man! Nobody in this thread actually owes you anything (even though it may appear otherwise), and the people who have been nagging should actually be grateful for getting Grimoires of Gaia to the state it currently is.
Which is: an awesome mod, but just not for a modern version of Minecraft. Even if you were to abandon this project altogether, anyone who has ever used this mod before (basically for free) owes you nothing but gratitude.
My point? I see you're not really looking forward to picking this project back up. Just know that you shouldn't feel pressured by anyone to rush this to a 1.7.10 update or work on it if you don't want to. Even though the naggers will claim they'll be heartbroken and Minecraft is ruined for them without an updated GoG2, they'll be just fine.
i do agree with this, yes this is a great mod and yes haveing it for mc 1.7.10 would be nice. But no pressure to rush it.Also thank you for this great and wonderful mod.

I can see what you see not, vision milky then eyes rot. When you turn they will be gone, whispering there hidden song. Then you see what can not be, shadows move where a light should be.Out of darkness, out of mind, cast down into the halls of the blind.
I can't enjoy my minecraft without this mod in 1.7.10. I blame tinkers construct for making me ludicrously overpowered. But even at my all time high when I was at my strongest with the best gear and abilities I could find, I STILL did not wanna mess with a Minotaur. Those guys are scary, fast as me/faster and they were 1 shotting me through diamond armor.

If it was not for a small glimpse of motivation I must admit I may have secretly abandoned ship as well. It feels rather pressuring to return back after a long leave and the pressure builds up depending on the length of time passed. I would have taken the "losers way out" if time had dragged on long enough.

Thanks. I never actually thought about it that way.
I am definitely not looking forward to picking this up again. But at the same time the reason why I am not enthusiastic is because of how intimidating the 1.7.x update looks like. Do note that I have made no attempts to update the code nor have I touched anything yet associated with the mod. Perhaps my attitude may change when I start getting my hands dirty.
*sigh* My attitude of "not attempting something because I have never attempted it before" seems to seep into all my work, aside from modding.
Sidenote:
Thanks for the positive feedback. Seeing that many are still enthusiastic about the future of the mod has motivated me.
I will be starting tomorrow. I have cleaned up my schedule to work on it the whole day. As I have said I will likely work on it 1-2 times a week.
I am not enthusiastic that I will be able to update everything to 1.7.x. Worst case scenario is that I will need to remove a ton of content from the mod. Maybe even mobs.
Grimoires of Gaia is one of my favorite mods. I am glad to see that you have not vanished from mod development Silentine. I hope that when you start updating the Grimoites of Gaia it is simple and not discouraging. and as Emerald Chicken said: you will remain an awesome modder who has achieved far more than humble me when it comes to creating custom, good looking and well crafted Minecraft content.
are you serious? look 2 or 3 posts up and your answer will be there.

I can very well understand the restraint you feel in updating a mod like this. It can indeed be overwhelming. I suspect that it may be easier than you think though once you get started with it. I'm lucky enough to have started my mod in 1.7.10 but I will also have the same problem once I start updating my mod to 1.8
Good luck in any case! I was missing your mod a lot when I (some time ago) tried to recreated the 1.6.4 UHS (Ultra Hard Survival) modpack for 1.7.10. I almost got it except for this mod.

I dun think i'll miss this mod, the mobs were totally outta place... To say in the nicest way.

As others have said, you need not feel pressured into updating if it is too much of a hassle, but I will support your decision either way. :>

Do you people seriously not read the thread? Literally 3 posts above yours is the answer to your question.
