gosh are the poor ol' roadrunners actually ATTRACTED to cacti? It sure seems like it. Mine always run straight for the nearest cactus and die. They typically all go extinct by cactus before I even have a chance to breed them.
Uh, while at least several dinosaurs have evolved flight, and birds ARE the modern-day descendants of dinosaurs, should I moderate non-avian dinosaur suggestions? Because someone put down microraptor, and I'm tempted to pull it. I think the only stem birds I'd accept IMHO would be any of the listed Avialans here, aside from just modern-day birds (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avialae)
Also, it looks like you organized everything again, can you check for duplicates?
this is one of the mods that i use always when starting a new world.
I have a question is there a server that uses this mod?

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
Has anyone considered Grebes? The semi-aquatic bird that dances with its mate across the water. Western Grebes and Clark's Grebes are the grebes that dance and they look very similar, but I'll be refering to the Western Grebe for the heck of it.
I was just thinking that it would be cute to see a pair of western grebes suddenly running across the surface of a lake. You come across a river and two pretty blurs dart across your screen.
Just for aesthetics and the wow factor I'd love it if they could be bred, because western grebes dancing on the lake by your house is So Much Cooler than a bunch of fat swans. They'd make for a wonderful pond bird to watch from your deck/ balcony.
When they run the water is treated like a solid surface and there is a pattering/ splashing sound and a particle effect for water spraying up behind them. There could also be a trail left in their wake similar to the particle effect for fishing when the fish is heading for the hook.
I suggest them for river, swampland and beach biomes like the kingfisher. To make running in swamplands easier maybe they could also run across the lilypads like it was water?
I have a concept for behavior, but it would still be beyond awesome to have grebes dance about so and this would add to the coding so feel free to shoot it down. Two adults pair off, similar to how a baby will cling to an adult, and follow one another until something happens to one of them or they have been separated (again like a baby clinging to an adult), then the individual that remains will pair off with the next available adult it comes across. Neither one is dominant or drags along the other when they are meandering and they will only breed with the one that they are paired off with. Another thought that was inspired by the second video is if one pair is close to another pair or pairs when they decide to start dancing, then they could set off the neighboring pairs into dancing.
Being semi-aquatic perhaps they can't drown.
Something that seems important to me, regardless of any pairing system or lack there of, is that if there isn't some mechanic to stop them from dancing when an adult is being followed by a chick then the chick or chicks would be left behind when their parent darts off.

This is part of my reasoning of not adding extinct birds, including the dodo. It's going to get very crazy if I start adding things like that. The Phoenix is most likely just a one off thing. And yep, I reorganised it a bit. There were no duplicates last time I checked, but that was a couple of weeks ago now.

I so do love it when I come across a fully formed, well thought out idea like this!
Grebes are so silly but I love them so much! I had no idea about that running on the water thing before. I've never seen them do that. Shouldn't be too hard to code, but oh my goodness, it might not look as fancy as real life.
Unfortunately I have so many ideas like this for current birds in mind and time constraints and lack of knowing how to code professionally are holding me back. (As soon as I perfect the bird flight I'll be happy xD). But that isn't to stop me adding some cool features if/when grebes are added
Pavo I hate asking this kind of stuff, but will there be a 1.8.9 release or will you jump straight to 1.9? I know some devs are just making the 19 jump, so I'm just trying to plan which mods I'm playing with accordingly

I don't think anything in Minecraft can look THAT FANCY! Not without some serious graphics mod like the kind used for the realistic cgi vids!
I'm always getting bombarded with ideas. So I post them and if they never get used then so be it, but at least now I can stop thinking so much about it and maybe get some sleep.
Probably wishful thinking, but who knows, maybe next year sometime I could be standing on a pixelated balcony watching Western Grebes dancing across the lake.
If you need any help just say the word. I have zero experience modding, but here I am.
i love this mod so much <3 i need it for 1.9 PLEASE T_T
Eehhhhhh. 1.9 is probably going to be a while. I don't see it coming in the next couple of months as it's a lot of work to make a new update. Especially across versions (1.8 - > 1.9)
I have 6 "unidentified eggs" and i am wondering how do i spawn birds from them?
You need to craft yourself an egg sorter (the recipe is on the main page), then place the eggs in the top slot, redstone in the bottom and they should become identified for you

I'm most excited for the Owls. After it's upgraded to 1.9.2, I can add them to the GIANT (over 1k blocks) tree ON TOP of my house.
Another idea is that they could spawn in any biome, as long as there happens to be a an oak tree nearby. That way, they would spawn in the giant tree completely covering my house (My house has over 3k blocks, so it's a really big tree)...
I love this mod but...

This was a very random question to find on here. But yep, it will be. There's not really a date for that though as it's still a WIP.

Nice mod.
I was just wondering if it was intended behaviour for birds to fly under water.
pavo can you add a puffin

Not intentionally, no.

Hi! I really love your mod, and i was wondering if you could update it to 1.9.2
Thanks!
