Well, it IS actually possible to get to the nether without diamond tools, so I think the tools should be WAY weaker than diamond. If you're wondering how to get into the nether without diamond, you just make a mold.
My idea: A special ore in the nether. Nothing fancy. This ore gives you a chunk that you smelt into an ingot. And the ore will blend into netherrack, making it hard to get! Also a question, what if I wanted the obsidian++, endstone++, and the netherrack++ mods together. I would just go and get netherrack++ because those tool have the same durablity and power of obsidian and endstone!
Now you smelt netherrack into nether chunks, then craft the nether chunks into netherrack ingots. Increases the amount of netherrack formed into ingots from 1 -> 6

They don't work together due to ModLoader not having any way to add new armor/tool materials yet. If anyone knows a different way, please tell me.
Still not that great. Now the recipes don't make much sense! Smelting netherrack = breaking it apart and puting the broken bits make metal/whatever stuff? :tongue.gif:
Far to over powered. I don't care if you have to use a diamond pick to get to the nether, the nether is completely made of nether rack. For 2 mins of digging, you can have a full set of tools and armor that is more powerful than diamonds. You need to do a lot more tweaking.

The blaze rods make tools harder to get. I will tweak it a bit, armor more.
I'd just like to say that I think it's perfectly balanced as is, with 6 netherack=1 ingot and the blaze rods for the handle. I'll probably be adding this mod to my minecraft world at some point :smile.gif:
Seems like a cool mod and you seem to know your way around coding. But if you're going to make the tools/armor better than diamond, there needs to be more steps to the process. Just look at the industrial-craft mod! You go from coal to coal dust to coal ball to compressed coal ball to coal chunk and than finally a diamond. In all, 5 steps. You of course don't have to make it this complicated but it's just something to think about.
Also, im pretty sure mcforge will do what you want.

I'll take this into consideration, thanks for the suggestion! Also, as I'm not familiar with forge, is it a separate mod that is required for people to use the mod? Or is it JUST a coding helper?
Yes this is better! It still doesn't make sense, but whatever. I think I will use this mod. But maybe if you can, my idea was an ore in the nether that drops chunks that you need to smelt into an ingot! :biggrin.gif:

2. If it breaks so easily with even a stone pick, how can it be a harder material than diamond?
THAT LOUSY, GOOD-FOR-NOTHING DRAGON EGG OF YOURS.
Fixed
It is harder than diamond because it is only accessible after you get diamond, to harvest the obsidian and make the portal to get it.
I might make you put 4 ingots together to make a "Super-Ingot", and then use that to create the tools. Of course not with the name super-ingot...Probably because they use blaze rods which are dropped by blazes.
My wip 32x texture pack.

Instead of 6 crumbs you now mix in obsidian like so:
Makes the recipe take longer to acquire enough materials for one ingot.
