Hi
I really like this mod, but I found a multi page chest. If you could include a multi page chest into your mod I'll def start using it. I like the way you can upgrade, imagine being able to upgrade all the way to a multi page chest. More expensive than the diamond one.
Keep up the great work, next time MC's mod crashes and I have to rebuild I'll be including this mod.
New update to the faithful texture pack with thanks to PieceMaker!
To those asking for these chests to get even bigger, I don't think so. I don't want to copy CubeX's multipage chest. To be honest I think a diamond chest is quite big enough.
Next up is going to be some sided inventory stuff. It may well be another modification item that allows you to force pipes connected on certain sides to prefer certain rows first. Also, I may look to make an explosion proof obsidian chest (probably a diamond chest upgrade).
Any chance you could think about adding a normal chest to copper chest upgrade? If you do that would be real amazing since having a massive storage room is a bit of a pain to replace. :tongue.gif:

The issue that is starting to occur is with the chest upgraders there are a bunch of combos that can be done. Espeically since not everyone has copper and silver. Maybe you might want to consider a chest upgrader where you get to choose what to upgrade it to via a gui (also saves inventory space).

The real problem with that is that the costs would not be equivalent. Also smp would be hard to implement for that (well time consuming and buggy so that amounts to the same thing)
I'd to understand what the problem is you are trying to describe to be honest. I tend to build them on demand with the materials to hand..

That makes sense, I haven't actually tried using the upgraders, so the item gets used when the chest gets upgraded. I thought it took the resources from your inventory to upgrade the chest and the upgrader was one time build for each chest. So my idea would work better for that system.

Yeah, sorry if I wasn't clear. You build an item that can upgrade a chest of any type to a new type. With it in your hand when you click on a chest of the right type, it'll upgrade that chest and be consumed.
5 types are available:
copper->iron
copper->silver
iron->gold
silver->gold
gold->diamond
Just wanna say that i love this mod. I had problem with IC2 personnal chest not taking item from pipe or tube but your chests work perfectly with both !
Nice work too with thoses upgrade items, love that i dont have to destroy my chest anymore to upgrade it :smile.gif:

yea personal chests didnt work with bc pipes a while ago but now i think they fixed that.
As a little teaser, I'm working on a new chest: the crystal chest. Here's a preliminary screenshot:
Yes, that is a mostly transparent chest. Yes that is the contents (well, the first few stacks).
Also: I know the blocks are a bit outside- that's why it's not ready for download yet- but I thought some of you might like to see what I'm doing this weekend :smile.gif:
Edit: mediafire being a bit weird. Hmmm. May have to look into something else...
A couple more teasers. I've almost finished, just need to do some nicer artwork. Basically, these are an upgrade from a diamond chest and you can see, well, what's inside, without having to open the chest.
You can see up to 8 separate items at once:
If there's only one item type in the stack you see it a bit bigger:
Since all the item ids changed I cant load my world unless I remove all the previous chests. As its a large mp server that involves a lot of peoples projects and likely ones I wouldnt be able to find. The config file doesnt allow for changing anything bar the basic block ID, is there a way to either convert all my ones on the server (midas doesnt work) or to change the ids back to what they were before?
The problem isn't the item IDs changing- it's the metadata of the chests. The previous version used the block metadata to store both type and facing- I've changed it to store the facing separately, so I could add more chest types. You can probably use mcedit to fix it - search for block id 181 (the default, but check your config file for the right block ID) and replace metadata 0-3 with metadata 0 (iron chest type), metadata 4-7 with metadata 1 (gold chest type), and metadata 8-11 with metadata 2 (diamond chest type).
This should fix your world and you'll get a default facing for your chests. Maybe I'll make an IC2 wrench let you change the facing orientation, but that should let you upgrade the world successfully.
New release: v2.4 adds Crystal chests- see your chest's contents without having to open them. No more hunting through giant rooms full of chests for the one with your cobble in it !
Just a quick question here:
Does the crystal chest works properly with mod items and blocks?
Because I remember some items like this that only showed vanilla items/blocks, and showed vanilla even for mod added ones.
It feels quite a pain to see reed when placing copper cable from IC for example, it basically defeat the original purpose in my opinion...
Anyway, I've been using your chests since 1.0 (yeah, not so long, but still), and even if mass producing them is costly, it gives quite a good storage when you really need it.
I personally use it on a server for a common storage, and it is really good to see that even filling one with cobble takes a lot of mining.
So, Thank for your work.
Yes, it works for almost everything. Certainly it works fine for everything forge related, so redpower, IC2, buildcraft, they all look good. I think it should show everything fine, unless someone has custom hacked the base code for RenderBlocks or somesuch (which you really shouldn't do, and likely such a mod would be incompatible with this one anyway).
On SMP, currently the crystal chests are just transparent chests- but I'm working on making the items appear within, the same as SSP does- it's just a bit of networking code. I'll have it figured out in the next day or so.

This. I actually dropped multipage chests for this reason, and also because I felt they were OP based on the recipe.

This helps soo much with my idea of my sorting/request system.
