As Notch has said many times, the game has no way of knowing what a "cave" is, or if you're in one. Or what direction is "out" of it.
I think what andy means is that Fairies should try to get away and/or avoid areas where a fairy can wither and try to get to a torch or some other light source.. Though, I don't see a point to the withering system itself then if a fairy would keep walking away from a dark room.
Good news everyone, I've ported the mod to Forge and it appears to be working fine (but I'm not releasing it quite yet)!
I made some changes:
- attempted to fix the "walking while sitting" visual-only bug
- fixed queens not sending death messages
- Fairies are no longer constrained to specific biomes, they just have to spawn within a certain set of conditions: moderate height, moderate temperature, moderate rainfall, etc.
I'm starting to get concerned, Cloudy-button's been staying out really late at night. She might have a fishing addiction...
(this feature's still in progress, the AI isn't completely coded yet. I'm having trouble figuring out how to calculate whether or not a fairy is in a good place to cast her fishing rod)

Your Familiar mod caused the crash with a null pointer exception.
Either me or Pam would have to make a patch for it.
I'm going to add a fairy with a ranged attack, but it won't be an archer. They're going to shoot something else.

Could be, but I don't see many, if at all, signs of elemental fairies.

(this means that fairies can spawn in custom biomes)
EDIT: But they still have to spawn on grass blocks.
More changes coming soon, and a release. I'm definitely going to let fairies use fishing rods next.
