Very cool. I'm using some buildcraft addons (logistics pipes/additional pipes) and I've tested (but not yet built on my main world due to shortage of diamonds) a similar system where I can throw in items at one end and have them auto-sorted in many stacked chests per item, and I can also access each chest through a logistics pipes provider pipe, which lets me remotely request anything in any of the chests (and in the far future, lets me request items that can be crafted from items in those chests.
I NEED HELP! i started with a new minecraft folder (1.1) , then i installed mod loader and mod loader mp, i installed all the buildcraft things, i installed better than wolves, i installed better then buildcraft, i deleted META-INF, i opened minecraft and got teh black screen..... I think the typical mistake is to open and install the Buildcraft zips into the .jar. Instead the Buildcraft zips get directly moved into the mods folder.
HOWEVER, you may not have a mods folder if this is your first time installing modloader (I think) so you might have to make the mods folder yourself. -> .minecraft\mods
No matter what I do, I can't get my wooden engine to power my quarry! The engine is receiving mechanical power, the quarry is configured, what is it that I'm missing?

Wooden engines aren't powerful enough to power a quarry. You need at least a steam engine to get it running.

Not quite, wood engines can power a quarry but entire generations will pass in between it doing anything. I have two wood engines running my quarry until I get my auto tree farm for making a supply of nether coal. It is slow but since it is free to run now that it is set up, it can clear out a layer every hour or so. It has provided enough stone to keep my building projects moving ahead.
I think it takes more time to clear out a space and build the frame than it does to actually mine. I used a steam engine to get it up and running and left it trudging along with the wood engines while I worked on other projects.
On the topic of quarries, has anyone found a good solution for automatically sorting the ores and valuable resources from the massive piles of cobblestone? I've been thinking of something along the lines of Battosay's ASS*, but I don't think that there is currently a hopper filter that can differentiate between cobble and, say, iron ore.
I suppose that, even if I end up having to resort to this, and need to have cobble and ore collect in the same chest, I can use a pipe system to further sort which items go where. I suppose I can spare the diamond for now.
*Advanced Storage/Sorting System, just to clarify.

Right, I forgot about the fact that it's either the quarry or the engines themselves which stores the energy till it gets enough power to start.
I think Spacetoad should be re looking at the engines due to little things like these. Not that it's a big deal, it's just confusing when trying to do the math.

Isn't this what the diamond pipe is for? It can distinguish individual blocks. It just requires the pipe itself and the space to lay out additional pipe lines instead of just the one. You could just have it throw it out the side into a pit of fire to throw away the excess if you have a large enough stockpile already. It isn't all that expensive the last time I checked if you're running your quarry enough to need sorting in the first place.

Yeah, it really would be nice to see the numbers behind this. He seems to like fancy GUIs, a little energy bar indicating how much is either in the system or the rate at which it is getting it per second relative to the maximum the system could use would be really nice. Even the raw numbers I saw on a youtube video highlights the vast differences between the engines and the advantages of upgrading.
Question: do Buildcraft addons also work with BTB? I'm mainly looking at the Additional Pipes addon and the item that keeps chunks loaded. It's tedious having to actually go to a zombie grinder I set up just for it to actually "grind".

In Buildcraft worlds I have done, I typically sorted by using Diamond Transport Pipes, which acts like a sorter for items passing through it. Perhaps a system that uses hoppers to pre-sort and diamond transport pipes to sort even further?
It seems to me that for a mobspawner to work it's not the chunk that must be loaded, but rather have to detect the player to be in the area.
(i placed 5 chunkloaders around 2 different mobspawners and nothing spawned.)
It's always been that way though, even with vMC.

Playing since Beta 1.3_01. Yeah. I like BTW. Or used to. Still do. Stuff Technic. (Back in the day...)

It's not so much a GUI system. It's the MJ system that needs to be redone.
Example. Two redstone engines provide a single Mj each.. Yet they can run a farm from forestry which requires a minimum input of 5 MJ.
They can do it because the farm stores the energy until it has enough to run.
That's not documented anywhere. It's common knowledge and documented that machines can store energy but there's nothing written saying that a weak engine can still power higher tier machines because it stores that machines capacitors.
Sorry for such a dumb question guys, but I can't seem to figure out how to pull fluids out of a Tank. I've never played BTW or BC before. I've got tanks full of lava but I don't know what to do with them. I want to use them as fuel. I've tried attaching various pipes and engines and pumps to them, but I can't pull anything out. Thanks!
Uninstall Forge. BC Works fine without it as long as you install BTB
The BTB patch makes it so you DON'T need to install Forge. So, yeah, delete that bad boy and enjoy the game.
For some reason, my reply always gets followed by other people :/
That's beautiful man. And so clean looking.
