Hey, I'm on back on the Yogbox today, which brings me back to TC2. Stupid question, but is there any use for petrified logs? I can't imagine Azanor put these in for no reason but to make things ugly and annoying. So, what 'are' they used for?
I'm also confused with the aura once again. I thought I had it, but it seems not. I assumed if you're in a forest area with blue trees and great trees, you have strong aura...right? So, why would I have petrified trees in the same forest not far from the blue trees? And I didn't even start doing TC things, yet. I made the basic items and created a pair of boots, that's it. So, I didn't do it. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Azanor most likely won't give you permission, so I would say no according to the license.
He might actually give permission seeing as he has seemingly abandoned the thaumcraft mod altogether. The last update for Thaumcraft3, the latest version, is over 7 months ago. Plus this is literally a different mod altogether, unarguable.
Thaumcraft3 is to Thaumcraft2 as a small/vague electricity mod with generic electrical materials is to Universal Electricity. They may share some item concepts(like ores and metals), may have similar crafting recipes, even comparable machines... But the more developed U.E. is going to be better in every way unless you like shortlived and simplistic mods that you can run through within a short while.

... He's overhauling Thaumcraft 3, that's why it hasn't updated in over a month (Azanor uses the D/M/YYYY format >_>)
The reason he discontinued ThaumCraft 2 is because he personally thought he could do better. Sure they might be drastically different in terms of mechanics and depth as of right now, but from what he's shown of 3.1 there will be a lot more content, and the main reason is that TC2 was from 1.1 - 1.2.5, whereas TC3 has only been from 1.4.7 - 1.5.2 as of right now.

I misread the date of 3.0.5h or whatever the latest version is. Honestly we has right on the mark with Thaumcraft2, and sure he could have upgraded some things a tad like some of the interface and sounds, but not TAKE 90% OF THE MOD OUT and replace it with ghetto material.
3.1 looks like yet more stepping away from the Thaumcraft starting point, which is even more saddening.
I may have to forcibly make myself NEVER look at Thaumcraft past 2.X every again, just to avoid disappointment because I had such a great time with it just to see the best part get violated from existence and rendering the mod crippled.
Go to 10:10.
With his statement and reaction you never know what could happen. He may branch thaumcraft3 into 2 different versions, or in more drastic cases (decides to himself for _____ reason) overhaul TC3/Update TC2 completely. But probably not. The best to hope for is that a "similar" mod to Thaumcraft2 comes out.

Well first off, he had to re-write the mod from scratch anyway. 1.2.5-1.3.2 killed a lot of mods. If he was feeling in a creative rut then there's absolutely no reason he would have to re-make mechanics that he either didn't feel comfortable with or just straight-up didn't work with the mod needing to be SMP compatible. If you like them better, all the more power to you. If you want to stay on 1.2.5 to play TC2, there's no real issue, is there?
I think looking at TC2 as the "Ultimate ThaumCraft experience" is kind of missing the point. Iunno about you, but I'm looking forward to 3.1's new research system. It might not fit your definition of Thaumcraft, but if Azanor is happy with it then I'm not about to go around telling him that he's wrong.
People are having much the same attitude of EE2. The problem with many people is after they use something for a while it becomes the norm and the accepted definitive standard for them, and any changes are completely unacceptable in their eyes. I for one am quite looking forward to the new mechanics

Besides, here's a selling point for Thaumcraft 3 to all the uninformed: in the next update, taint is coming back, for those of you who like the taint zones. Not only that, it'll be better than before.
Al lot of the old TC2 mechanics will be making it back in one form or another. They were always meant to. Unfortunately for the duration of TC3 development I had loads of real life stuff that kept getting in the way.
That is all thankfully behind me and I can start doing to things I had planned for TC3.
In any case, I write the mod for my own entertainment - if people don't want to play it for whatever reason then more power to them. *shrug*

Azanor hinted that mirrors able to teleport players would eventually be a thing in TC3. That may or may not still hold true.

I don't want to read that and see your cause. By the way, it needs forge and not
modloader. Please, oh please put it in a spoiler! There were major changes from 1.2.5 all the way to 1.6, Most of the mod might have to be re-written, He will most likely NEVER update this
